Candidates proceeded to file petitions for the November ballot \u200camidst ongoing legal actions, accentuating the discourse on mid-election rule adjustments.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013 Monday was the deadline for candidates that didn\u2019t run in Illinois\u2019 March primary to file for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-doj-sues-georgia-over-voting-law\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s DOJ Sues Georgia Over Voting Law\">ballot access<\/a>. It was also the first hearing in a case challenging the prohibition of such candidates from being slated. <\/p>\n<p>The law Gov. J.B. Pritzker hastily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/illinois\/article_1667fea4-097b-11ef-8d4e-237d3a918b26.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>enacted<\/strong><\/a> last month after the legislature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/illinois\/article_63866818-080b-11ef-b7ae-b3b420a67d3b.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>gutted<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/illinois\/article_2b607af8-08cb-11ef-be4b-4314e8b49453.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>replaced<\/strong><\/a> a completely separate bill with the mid-election year change was temporarily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/illinois\/article_9e597ac0-188c-11ef-81b9-d35fbd0a11d1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>blocked<\/strong><\/a> after a Sangamon County judge issued a preliminary injunction. <\/p>\n<p>Monday, candidates filed petitions with the Illinois State Board of Elections to get on the November ballot. Across town in Springfield, Liberty Justice Center attorney Jeffrey Schwab represented some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/illinois\/article_1718e3a2-115c-11ef-93b1-47f6d0682015.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>filers<\/strong><\/a> in the first hearing challenging the law.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment shouldn\u2019t be allowed to change the rules in an election in the middle of the process,\u201d Schwab told The Center Square. \u201cIt\u2019s fine if they want to change future rules if they want to make things a little more fair or better, or they think that this process is unfair. That\u2019s fine, but once the process starts, you can\u2019t change it and take it away from people and that\u2019s exactly what they did here.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Schwab said the preliminary injunction remains in place until the judge makes a ruling, something expected in the coming days. <\/p>\n<p>In the March primary election,\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-way-back-for-heard-in-hollywood-amber-heard-looking-at-career-end-bankruptcy-experts-say\/\" title=\"\u2018No Way Back For Heard In Hollywood\u2019: Amber Heard Looking At Career End, Bankruptcy, Experts Say\">winning party<\/a> was already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/illinois\/article_415f3554-da74-11ee-b26c-b70db7d116de.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>determined<\/strong><\/a> in\u00a0more than half of Illinois\u2019 House and Senate seats up for grabs as no opposing party ran candidates in those districts.\u00a0Monday was the deadline for candidates that didn\u2019t run in the primary to seek ballot access.  <\/p>\n<p>State Rep. Eva-Dina Delgado, D-Chicago, could face Republican Juvandy Rivera, who filed petitions to be slated Monday.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI as a good candidate would make sure that those signatures are valid,\u201d Delgado said late last month. \u201cAnd if they are, then fantastic, and if they aren\u2019t, then we\u2019d proceed to the next step.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>State Rep. La Shawn Ford, D-Chicago, could be challenged by Republican Leslie Collazo, who also filed petitions to be slated Monday. Late last month after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-accuse-biden-of-playing-political-game-over-border-crisis\/\" title=\"House Republicans Accuse Biden of Playing \u2018Political Game\u2019 Over Border Crisis\">judge temporarily blocked<\/a> the slating prohibition, Ford said he didn\u2019t have plans to file any objections at that time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a system of checks and balances and if the courts say that they see it different than the legislature, then we have to accept that,\u201d Ford told The Center Square. <\/p>\n<p>Others that <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.il.gov\/ElectionOperations\/CandidatesFiled.aspx?ID=9huvqbsiUWA%3d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filed<\/a><\/strong> Monday with the Illinois State Board of Elections for seats to the Illinois Statehouse include Teresa Alexander of North Aurora, who filed as a Republican for the 50th House District. Alexander could face incumbent state Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora. <\/p>\n<p>Carlos Gonzalez of Lyons filed as a Republican for the 1st Senate District. Gonzalez could face incumbent state Sen. Javier Loera Cervantes, D-Chicago. <\/p>\n<p>Nancy Rodriguez of Chicago, filed as a Republican for the 4th House District. Rodriguez could face incumbent state Rep. Lilian Jimenez, D-Chicago. <\/p>\n<p>Camaxtle \u201cMax\u201d Olivo of Chicago filed as a Republican for the 1st House District. Olivo could face incumbent state Rep. Aaron Ortiz, D-Chicago. <\/p>\n<p>Terry Nguyen Le of Chicago filed as a Republican for the 13th House District. Le could face incumbent state Rep. Hoan Huynh. <\/p>\n<p>James Kirchner of Chicago filed as a Republican for the 13th Senate District. Kirchner could face incumbent state Sen. Robert Peters, D-Chicago. <\/p>\n<p>John \u201cJZ\u201d Zimmers of Chicago filed as a Republican for the 19th House District. Zimmers could face incumbent state Rep. Lindsey LaPointe, D-Chicago. <\/p>\n<p>Carl Kunz of Hickory Hills filed as a Republican for the 31st House District. Kunz could face Michael Crawford, who beat state Rep. Mary Flowers, D-Chicago, in the March primary election. <\/p>\n<p>Ronald Andermann of Arlington Heights filed as a Republican for the 53rd House District. Andermann could face incumbent state Sen. Mark Walker, D-Arlington Heights, who also filed to be slated to the ballot. Walker was recently appointed to the Senate after the retirement of Ann Gillespie, who went to work for the Pritzker administration. <\/p>\n<p>Timothy Szymankowski of Plainfield filed as a Republican for the 98th House District. Szymankowski could face incumbent state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet. <\/p>\n<p>Ashley Jensen of Winthrop filed as a Republican for the 31st Senate District. Jensen could face incumbent state Sen. Mary Edly-Allen, D-Libertyville. <\/p>\n<p>Donald Puckett of Elgin filed as a Republican for the 43rd House District. Puckett could face incumbent state Rep.
