Despite attempts to depict Garland as just, his actions tell a different \u2064story. Refusals to release crucial audio recordings and selective prosecutions reveal\u2064 a politically \u2063motivated\u200c agenda, undermining the \u200dperception of objectivity in the Attorney General&#8217;s office. The Wall Street Journal&#8217;s praise \u200cfor\u2064 Merrick Garland&#8217;s fairness ahead of his congressional inquiry seems calculated. \u200bHowever,\u2063 his recent \u2064actions, including withholding \u2063vital audio records and biased prosecutions, suggest a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rancher-biden-stopping-border-wall-to-hurt-trump-legacy-only-hurting-us\/\" title=\"Rancher: Biden Stopping Border Wall To Hurt Trump \u2018Legacy,\u2019 Only \u2018Hurting\u2019 Us\">politically driven agenda<\/a> that compromises the\u2063 perceived objectivity of \u2063the Attorney General&#8217;s office.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>It\u2019s no accident that The Wall Street Journal ran an \u201cexclusive\u201d hagiographic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/policy\/merrick-garland-special-counsel-justice-department-under-fire-4608467b?mod=hp_lead_pos7\">piece<\/a> on Merrick Garland\u2019s \u201cby-the-book, play-no-favorites approach\u201d the day the attorney general is set to be grilled by Congress. The administration wants to paint the AG as a fair-minded dispenser of justice.<\/p>\n<p>In truth, while Garland might occasionally \u2014 only when faced with no real options \u2014 put the Biden administration in an uncomfortable political position, he has regularly weaponized the agency to target the president\u2019s political enemies, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/seattle-suburb-backs-down-from-ban-on-abortion-clinic-protesters\/\" title=\"Seattle Suburb Backs Down From Ban on Abortion Clinic Protesters\">pro-life protesters<\/a> to concerned parents to presidential candidates.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1297758672\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-bf6126ba43791bd286f83a546d35bb3d fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-bf6126ba43791bd286f83a546d35bb3d\"><\/div>\n<p>Even as I write this, Garland is refusing to hand over audio recordings of Joe Biden\u2019s interviews with former Special Counsel Robert Hur, despite a congressional subpoena. Even as the DOJ stonewalls Congress, it is prosecuting the Republican Party\u2019s presidential candidate for crimes for which the Hur tape supposedly \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/09\/either-biden-is-an-elderly-man-with-a-poor-memory-or-he-needs-to-be-charged-pick-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exonerates<\/a>\u201d Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Garland\u2019s claims of executive privilege are risible. If Biden\u2019s audio can be withheld from the public simply because someone somewhere <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/06\/01\/doj-ai-biden-hur-00161151\">might manipulate<\/a> the tape using AI, then any audio of any president can be denied the public.<\/p>\n<p>Also, why is this DOJ\u2019s concern? Considering the Hur transcript has already been released \u2014 and we know that Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/12\/turns-out-biden-lied-about-hur-beau-and-why-he-pilfered-classified-documents\/\">lied about it<\/a> \u2014 there is even less justification for withholding the audio. And considering the DOJ has apparently <a href=\"https:\/\/hotair.com\/jazz-shaw\/2024\/06\/02\/why-joe-bidens-hur-interview-transcript-was-hidden-n3789485\">cleaned up<\/a> all the \u201cuhs\u201d and \u201cohs\u201d and garbled words in the transcript, the tape would likely further cement the president as an \u201celderly man with a poor memory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, the real problem here isn\u2019t the deep fake; it\u2019s the unedited tape. Withholding the audio is obviously politically motivated. Which is unsurprising, since Garland has been one of the most partisan AGs in memory.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a1d1fdf6ca5c0b54a70a1ffaf49abe84 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-a1d1fdf6ca5c0b54a70a1ffaf49abe84\"><\/div>\n<p>While Garland was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/01\/12\/biden-turned-classified-documents-into-a-scandal-to-get-trump-but-whos-laughing-now\/\">raiding<\/a> the home of the former president over a classified document dispute, he was letting the statute of limitations on the foreign influence-peddling by the president\u2019s family <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/jim-jordan-grills-ag-garland-allowing-hunter-bidens-potential-burisma-charges-lapse\">run out<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While left-wing pro-Hamas protesters were rioting and targeting Jews, Garland was still fearmongering over the coming MAGA extremist revolution, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/10\/04\/fbi-targets-trump-voters-as-domestic-terrorists-ahead-of-2024-election\/\">inflating<\/a> the threat with bogus statistics.<\/p>\n<p>While Garland did nothing about those (likely) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/doj-allows-illegal-protests-scotus-justices-homes-federal-law\">illegally<\/a> picketing the homes of federal judges and attempting to intimidate them and influence cases \u2014 even after an assassin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/07\/27\/politics\/kavanaugh-roske-arrest-warrant\/index.html\">tried<\/a> to kill Brett Kavanaugh \u2014 the DOJ was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/01\/24\/pro-life-dad-raided-by-bidens-fbi-is-on-trial-this-week\/\">deploying<\/a> armed teams to raid the homes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-making-babies-in-test-tubes-is-not-pro-life\/\" title=\"Why Creating Babies in Test Tubes Contradicts Pro-Life Beliefs\">pro-life families<\/a> and prosecuting elderly anti-abortion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/257870\/another-elderly-pro-life-activist-sentenced-to-two-years-in-prison-after-face-act-conviction\">protesters<\/a> for praying in front of \u201cclinics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even as Democrats are yammering about saving democracy, the DOJ has been working to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/22\/in-the-wake-of-roes-demise-democrats-are-doing-all-they-can-to-thwart-democracy\/\">undermine<\/a> the electoral choices of voters in red states like Texas. Abortion is not a (pretend) constitutional right anymore. The DOJ does not care.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3c63df030a97d62698836fdef9015717 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3c63df030a97d62698836fdef9015717\"><\/div>\n<p>The DOJ is restarting <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/08\/fbi-confirms-its-restarting-online-censorship-efforts-ahead-of-2024-election\/\">censorship<\/a> efforts under the guise of stopping foreign interference, and also <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/09\/20\/biden-doj-targeting-of-elon-musk-is-intimidation-pure-and-simple\/\">targeting<\/a> X owner Elon Musk, who has opened his platform to more neutral speech. It\u2019s quite the happenstance, right?<\/p>\n<p>Not only did Garland form a \u201ctask force\u201d to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2021\/10\/the-biden-administration-is-trying-to-intimidate-parents\/\">investigate<\/a> local parents who were protesting authoritarian Covid restrictions and racist curriculums, but he <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/10\/27\/ag-merrick-garland-refuses-to-retract-controversial-school-board-memo\/\">refused to dissolve<\/a> the effort even after the National School Boards Association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsba.org\/News\/2021\/letter-to-members\">apologized<\/a> for the letter that sparked it.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it was the Biden administration that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2022\/01\/how-deep-was-cardonas-role-in-domestic-terror-school-board-letter\/\">prompted<\/a> the organization to use the term \u201cdomestic terrorism\u201d to give the DOJ justification to get involved in the first place. Even The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/10\/27\/us\/politics\/merrick-garland-justice-department-schools-memo.html\">acknowledged<\/a> that \u201cGarland did not detail any specific threats of violence or offer reasons for the increase in harassment and threats.\u201d The only reason to get involved was to chill speech and intimidate parents.<\/p>\n<p>No matter.<\/p>\n<p>Even the case against Hunter Biden, used most often by the left to brandish Garland\u2019s alleged Solomonic credentials, is a farce.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s not forget if the Justice Department had its way, the case would have disappeared. To begin with, Garland ignored the law and appointed a counsel from within the government. David Weiss, whose office was filled with Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2579935\/hunter-biden-investigation-democratic-donors-and-biden-allies-found-in-david-weisss-office\/\">allies<\/a>, was prepared to give Hunter an astonishing immunity <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/23\/after-hunters-sweetheart-deal-went-south-heres-whats-next-from-bidens-compromised-doj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deal<\/a>, not only on felony gun and tax charges, but for a slew of unrelated serious potential offenses, including failure to register as a foreign agent, bribery, and corruption.<\/p>\n<p>It was only because of the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/20\/its-increasingly-clear-the-feds-were-protecting-joe-biden-not-hunter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">whistleblower testimony<\/a> of Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler that Weiss was forced to ask Hunter to plead guilty to two piddling misdemeanor counts. And the immunity deal was only quashed because Judge Maryellen Noreika, who pointed out there was not a single precedent in which immunity was <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hunter-biden-joe-biden-burisma-plea-deal-taxes-guns-drugs-5887025e2caefef9bb5ddb23b69820e8\">offered<\/a> for \u201ccrimes in a different case,\u201d rejected it.<\/p>\n<p>In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/f\/?id=0000018f-e11c-d6d1-a9bf-e7fe3b4c0000&#038;nname=playbook&#038;nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&#038;nrid=0000014e-f115-dd93-ad7f-f915a6170001&#038;nlid=630318\">remarks<\/a> to Congress today, Garland promised that he \u201cwill not back down from defending our democracy,\u201d despite the \u201crepeated attacks\u201d and \u201cconspiracy theor[ies]\u201d regarding the DOJ. Some conspiracy theories exist, no doubt, but most criticisms of Garland\u2019s work are legitimate. Treating criticism of his corrupt tenure as an attack on the \u201cjudicial process itself\u201d has it backward.\u00a0 Demanding no one question the actions of state institutions is authoritarian. If the system were working properly, Garland would be impeached.<\/p>\n<p>But in their efforts to save \u201cdemocracy\u201d \u2014 a concept that\u2019s been stripped of any meaning \u2014 Democrats have justified deploying the state to punish and destroy political enemies. For many progressives, the legal system isn\u2019t merely a tool for criminal justice but a way to exact political justice.<\/p>\n<p>Garland is one of the leaders in this fight.
