Trump\u2019s Project 2025 wants to repeal it, which would raise\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iDrrBKEIhf\">pic.twitter.com\/iDrrBKEIhf<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 Biden-Harris HQ (@BidenHQ) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BidenHQ\/status\/1797725488145715598?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 3, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Contrary to the Biden campaign\u2019s claims, President Trump <em>did <\/em>take such action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI seem to remember that back in May of 2020, Centers for Medicare &#038; Medicaid said that President Trump had signed an executive order to cap the price of insulin for Medicare recipients at 35 bucks,\u201d says Roberts in the clip. \u201cNow, maybe I\u2019m misremembering that, but I think it kind of already happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His timeline may be a few months off, but he\u2019s not misremembering. It did already happen.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2020, the Centers for Medicare &#038; Medicaid Services <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cms.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/president-trump-announces-lower-out-pocket-insulin-costs-medicares-seniors\">announced<\/a> the Part D Senior Savings Model, developed under President Trump\u2019s leadership. Participating plans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drugtopics.com\/view\/cms-lowers-medicare-insulin-copays\">would cap insulin copays to $35<\/a> per month\u2019s supply, and over 1,750 Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D plans applied to offer lower insulin costs. <\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s executive action was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2020\/05\/28\/medicare-insulin-model-trump-pharma-insurance\">widely reported on<\/a>, and the Trump White House relayed this information via a public fact sheet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo effort will be spared to give America\u2019s seniors the care and support and devotion and love they have earned and that they deserve,\u201d Trump said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov\/briefings-statements\/president-donald-j-trump-reducing-cost-insulin-improving-healthcare-nations-seniors\/\">statement<\/a> discussing the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>Later, in July 2020, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov\/briefings-statements\/president-donald-j-trump-taking-action-lower-drug-costs-ensure-americans-access-life-saving-medications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signed<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/presidential-documents\/executive-orders\/donald-trump\/2020\">four executive orders<\/a> aimed at lowering the cost of insulin. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2020\/07\/29\/2020-16623\/access-to-affordable-life-saving-medications\">first of these<\/a>, Executive Order 13937, required Federally Qualified Health Centers to pass 340B discounts on to patients. It aimed to reduce the financial burden of insulin for Americans who were either uninsured or otherwise facing high out-of-pocket costs. The other three executive orders advanced similar cost-reduction goals. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s clear that the only blatant lie here is from the Biden campaign.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Biden administration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verifythis.com\/article\/news\/verify\/health-verify\/biden-stopped-trump-insulin-executive-order-only-affected-some-health-centers\/536-fd5c976a-191e-4821-8c07-296b725d8482\">reversed<\/a> Executive Order 13937 before Trump\u2019s cost-saving measures could take effect. Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2021\/01\/26\/2021-01629\/implementation-of-executive-order-on-access-to-affordable-life-saving-medications\">issued a freeze<\/a> on the order less than a week after his inauguration. He fully <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2021\/10\/01\/2021-21457\/implementation-of-executive-order-on-access-to-affordable-life-saving-medications-rescission-of\">canceled<\/a> implementation of the order later that year.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/5376\/text\">Inflation Reduction Act<\/a> was passed by both chambers of Congress and signed by President Biden. The law included a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspe.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/bd5568fa0e8a59c2225b2e0b93d5ae5b\/aspe-insulin-affordibility-datapoint.pdf\">$35 per month cap<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dems-in-tough-elections-ignore-pelosis-push-to-tout-bbb\/\" title=\"Dems In Tough Elections Ignore Pelosi\u2019s Push To Tout BBB\">monthly insulin costs<\/a>. Sound familiar? It\u2019s the same cap developed under Trump\u2019s Part D Senior Savings Model in May 2020. <\/p>\n<p>All we are witnessing now is the Biden administration\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/03\/02\/fact-sheet-president-bidens-cap-on-the-cost-of-insulin-could-benefit-millions-of-americans-in-all-50-states\/\">attempt to take credit<\/a> for the policy the Trump administration advanced in the first place.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Monroe Harless is a summer intern at The Federalist.
