In the aftermath of more controversy for the former Louisiana State University star, Reese doubled down on \u201ctak[ing] the \u2018bad guy\u2019 role,\u201d telling people that she would \u201cgo down in history\u201d for it.<\/p>\n<p>Reese, the No. 7 pick in this year\u2019s WNBA Draft and now a power forward with the Chicago Sky, was best known for her collegiate showdowns with No. 1 pick Caitlin Clark, formerly of the University of Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>While Clark has set new benchmarks for ratings and attention in her rookie year with the Indiana Fever, Reese has managed to find herself in the midst of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-caitlin-clark-hit-violent-cheap-shot-angel-reese-appears-celebrate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">another Clark-related kerfuffle<\/a> after she was seen celebrating with a teammate, Chennedy Carter, after Carter delivered a hard foul to Clark in the Sky\u2019s 71-70 loss to the Fever on Saturday.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">VIDEO: Watch as Angel Reese celebrate on the sideline, while teammate Chennedy Carter delivers a cheap shot to star player Caitlin Clark. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/caitlinclark?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#caitlinclark<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/angelreese?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#angelreese<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WNBA?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WNBA<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GpWs4ZEXwu\">pic.twitter.com\/GpWs4ZEXwu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Prince Carlton \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@_PrinceCarlton_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_PrinceCarlton_\/status\/1797047031657111817?\">June 1, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/10123336-angel-reese-fined-by-wnba-for-not-talking-to-media-after-loss-to-caitlin-clark-fever\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bleacher Report<\/a>, Reese was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wnba-wrist-slaps-player-cheap-shot-caitlin-clark-punishes-angel-reese-instead-wasnt-expecting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also fined $1,000<\/a> after not talking to the media after the game. The team was fined $5,000 for not ensuring that team members followed availability guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>However, at Monday\u2019s practice, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/former-espn-commentator-goes-scorched-earth-caitlin-clark-angel-reese-says-overpaid-wnba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reese<\/a> and Carter were willing to talk with the media. If only this were a good thing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, it\u2019s all love outside of basketball,\u201d Carter said when asked about the foul, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/angel-reese-bad-guy-role-010809091.html#:~:text=I'll%20take%20the%20'bad,y'all%20to%20realize%20that.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we\u2019re in those four lines, it\u2019s smoke. After, it\u2019s all love, I promise. We\u2019re a genuine team, we\u2019re genuine [people]. We didn\u2019t hit her [Clark] like she was out on the streets, it\u2019s just basketball.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reese was also unapologetic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComing into a league that is super competitive with amazing talent here, I wasn\u2019t coming in here expecting it to be easy because of the name I have,\u201d Reese said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m playing for the name in front of me. I play with the letters across my chest. So understanding that, and understanding what that comes with. We all we got, we all we need. Understanding that we have each other\u2019s back through whatever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for her place in the WNBA hierarchy, Reese had an interesting response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think so many people are watching women\u2019s basketball right now,\u201d Reese said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt all started from the National Championship Game [in 2023], and I\u2019ve been dealing with this for two years now. And understanding, yeah, negative things have probably been said about me, but honestly, I\u2019ll take that because look where women\u2019s basketball is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are talking about women\u2019s basketball, but you never would think that people would be talking about women\u2019s basketball. People are pulling up to games, we got celebrities coming to games, sold out arenas, just because of one single game,\u201d Reese said, referencing the 2023 women\u2019s NCAA National Championship final between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-clark-leads-iowa-back-final-four-scoring-41-points-94-87-win-defending-champion-lsu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LSU and Iowa<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd just looking at that, I\u2019ll take that role. I\u2019ll take the \u2018bad guy\u2019 role, and I\u2019ll continue to take that on and be that for my teammates. Yes, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/just-lsu-star-angel-reese-makes-massive-career-move\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2023 Women\u2019s NCAA basketball final<\/a> was indeed where the women\u2019s game seems to have come of age, but a lot has changed since then.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Clark was the first overall pick in this year\u2019s packed WNBA Draft, whereas Reese wasn\u2019t even the first pick by her team. (That would be University of South Carolina star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/wnba\/player\/_\/id\/4433405\/kamilla-cardoso\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kamilla Cardoso<\/a>, who has only played in one game thus far this season for the Sky due to injury.)<\/p>\n<p>And, while early returns aren\u2019t necessarily a guarantee of future success, Clark has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/wnba\/player\/gamelog\/_\/id\/4433403\/caitlin-clark\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">outplayed<\/a> Reese by a rather substantial margin, having racked up 15.6 points per game, 5.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists. Reese has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/wnba\/player\/_\/id\/4433402\/angel-reese\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scored<\/a> 10.6 points per game and has 8.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists. \u2018<\/p>\n<p>While comparing the two isn\u2019t necessarily apples to apples, given that one is a forward and the other is a guard, it\u2019s safe to say that Clark has better all-around statistics while Reese tends to be better in the paint than Clark is. In other words, we\u2019ve all moved on from that 2023 National Championship.<\/p>\n<p>However, Reese seems to believe she\u2019s going to go down in history as a kind of nasty \u201cbad guy\u201d enforcer, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2022\/03\/12\/former-chicago-bull-charles-oakley-talks-about-his-new-memoir-the-last-enforcer-and-the-punches-shoves-and-slaps-hes-remembered-for\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charles Oakley<\/a> of the WNBA. If you\u2019re asking, \u201cWait, who?\u201d, you\u2019re probably either under 40 or weren\u2019t into the NBA back during the Michael Jordan era.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, you\u2019re not asking who Michael Jordan is.
