Biden pretends at this, but he doesn\u2019t pretend very well \u2014 which doesn\u2019t make Jewish Democrats or independent moderates happy. The unresolved state of the war between Israel and Hamas after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/12-un-agency-employees-involved-oct-7-hamas-attack-biden-reinstated-funding-trump-pulled-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oct. 7 terrorist attacks<\/a> makes no one happy, particularly as the conflict threatens to metastasize and destabilize the wider Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the president\u2019s fortunes were looking up on Friday when he sprung a surprise: The White House was putting together a three-part cease-fire plan that, apparently, Israel supported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the past several months, my negotiators of foreign policy, intelligence community and the like have been relentlessly focused not just on a cease-fire that would inevitably be fragile and temporary but on a durable end to the war,\u201d Biden said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2024\/05\/31\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-the-middle-east-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remarks<\/a> at the White House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s been the focus: a durable end to this war. One that brings all the hostages home, ensures Israel\u2019s security, creates a better \u2018day after\u2019 in Gaza without Hamas in power and sets the stage for a political settlement that provides a better future for Israelis and Palestinians alike,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, after intensive diplomacy carried out by my team and my many conversations with leaders of Israel, Qatar, and Egypt and other Middle Eastern countries, Israel has now offered \u2014 Israel has offered \u2014 a comprehensive new proposal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/l-U3w0qou-s?si=iF_jbq5eANh8YaGB&#038;start=123\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>If only someone had bothered informing Israel about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/israeli-officials-say-got-played-biden-administration-hamas-cease-fire-talks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tenets of the agreement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In remarks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/world\/biden-cease-fire-offer-not-accurate-israel-netanyahu-hostages-hamas-rcna155129\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a> reported Monday evening, a senior Israeli official said Biden\u2019s description of the proposal was \u201cnot accurate\u201d and the U.S. president had laid out only a partial version of what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s government would accept.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsrael has not changed its conditions to reach a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/boris-johnson-among-thousands-marching-against-anti-semitism-in-london\/\" title=\"Boris Johnson joins London's anti-Semitism march\">permanent cease-fire<\/a>,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat will only happen after our objectives are met including destroying Hamas\u2019 military and governing capabilities,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n<p>NBC News reported that the official \u201calso said that while the White House described the plan as originating from Israel, it was actually a proposal put forward by mediators to which Israel had made amendments and changes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s strange that they say it\u2019s an Israeli proposal and at the same time that Israel needs to agree to it,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n<p>Over the weekend, reports out of Israel indicated that, while Netanyahu\u2019s government was on board with the framework of an agreement, it was less than enthusiastic about the deal.<\/p>\n<p>Ophir Falk, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/netanyahu-admits-strike-rafah-tragic-mistake-massive-backlash-brutal-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Netanyahu\u2019s<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/illinois-dem-offered-activist-taxpayer-funded-job-in-alleged-bid-to-clear-primary-field-court-docs-show\/\" title=\"Illinois Dem Offered Activist Taxpayer-Funded Job in Alleged Bid to Clear Primary Field, Court Docs Show\">chief foreign policy adviser<\/a>, said that it was \u201ca deal we agreed to \u2014 it\u2019s not a good deal, but we dearly want the hostages released, all of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/world\/netanyahu-aide-israel-agreed-biden-cease-fire-plan-gaza-rcna155075\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a> noted, the idea of a permanent cease-fire was deemed a \u201cnonstarter\u201d by Netanyahu on Sunday. He also told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee that the version of the cease-fire that Biden presented was only \u201cpartial\u201d on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe war will be stopped for the purpose of returning hostages and then we will proceed with further discussions,\u201d the prime minister said, according to spokesman David Mencer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are other details that the U.S. president did not present to the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And, as the outlet reported, \u201canother U.S. official also pushed back Monday, telling NBC News that Biden was merely describing the Israeli proposal but acknowledging the pressure Netanyahu would face from far-right officials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s leave aside what qualifies as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/netanyahus-allies-not-happy-bidens-ceasefire-plan-threaten-collapse-government-accepted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">far-right<\/a>\u201d in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nbc-news-roasted-horrible-take-democrat-staffers-illicit-gay-senate-tape\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a> vernacular. (Translation: Any Israeli politician or minister duly concerned about the Jewish state\u2019s continued security and autonomy.) This is pretty damning stuff, evidence that Biden announced a cease-fire slam-dunk that was, at best, more like an adumbration sketched out on a pencil by all sides, then filled in with details thoroughly untenable to Israel by the Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p>The whole to-do could best be summed up, in short, by this X post:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Biden: Israel is offering a ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p>Israel: We\u2019re not.<\/p>\n<p>Biden: I negotiated this ceasefire<\/p>\n<p>Israel: There\u2019s no ceasefire agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Biden: The ceasefire will begin soon.<\/p>\n<p>Israel: it won\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Rinse and repeat. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/A2m0b2ctFr\">https:\/\/t.co\/A2m0b2ctFr<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Marcus (@BlueBoxDave) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BlueBoxDave\/status\/1797731479256248553?\">June 3, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Another X user noted the \u201csheer perfidy\u201d of the Biden administration claiming the plan was Israel\u2019s idea and then effectively taking it to the U.N. Security Council in order to ram what was supposedly Israel\u2019s own plan down its throat:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The US statement on its draft Security Council resolution. Do savor the sheer perfidy of what Team Biden is doing here. They publicize a plan for an immediate ceasefire, lying that Israel wants that. Now they\u2019re enlisting the UNSC to ram \u201cIsrael\u2019s proposal\u201d down Israel\u2019s throat. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Bhn3brrcZR\">https:\/\/t.co\/Bhn3brrcZR<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/S0CAUIFlvt\">pic.twitter.com\/S0CAUIFlvt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Gary Weiss (@gary_weiss) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gary_weiss\/status\/1797770756304281981?\">June 3, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And yet, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby didn\u2019t seem to understand what the big deal was when reporters grilled him on the viability of the plan on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Israeli foreign minister himself acknowledged that this was the Israeli proposal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>When he was asked \u201cwhat other gaps, as Netanyahu referred to them, are there between the U.S. and Israel,\u201d Kirby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2024\/06\/03\/on-the-record-press-gaggle-by-white-house-national-security-communications-advisor-john-kirby-14\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">responded<\/a>, \u201cI don\u2019t know what gaps you\u2019re referring to. I mean, I\u2019ve heard different statements coming out of Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If that doesn\u2019t say it all about the fantasy land in which Biden and his team continue to live \u2014 particularly when it comes to Gaza, where they\u2019re very obviously trying to have their cake while eating it, too, and with predictable results \u2014 I don\u2019t quite know what will.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>In just a few months, the world is going to change forever.
