Douglas Golden<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 4, 2024 at 4:00am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>WNBA player Chennedy Carter is going viral for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of her play, and it turns out that she isn\u2019t complaining.<\/p>\n<p>In the first remarks the Chicago Sky guard made to the media about a hard foul Saturday on Indiana Fever star and No. 1 overall draft pick Caitlin Clark, Carter said she had no regrets about the incident, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wnba-wrist-slaps-player-cheap-shot-caitlin-clark-punishes-angel-reese-instead-wasnt-expecting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drew a technical<\/a> and plenty of social media infamy.<\/p>\n<p>The hard foul off the ball during the Sky\u2019s 71-70 loss to the Fever got plenty of criticism from both pundits and fans alike:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The league got a bounty on Caitlin Clark <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/aY2qlA2SOb\">pic.twitter.com\/aY2qlA2SOb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ahmed\/The Ears\/IG: BigBizTheGod \ud83c\uddf8\ud83c\uddf4 (@big_business_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/big_business_\/status\/1796957370129563835?\">June 1, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After the loss, Carter wasn\u2019t willing to elaborate on what precipitated the foul, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-wnba-player-rages-wont-answer-caitlin-clark-questions-hitting-cheap-shot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">telling reporters<\/a>, \u201cI ain\u2019t answering no Caitlin Clark questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, she later took to social media, first reposting and liking a fusillade of clips that defended her on her X account. She then posted on the social media platform Threads \u2014 a mostly vacant rival to X owned by Meta.<\/p>\n<p>She asked, in regards to Clark\u2019s talent, \u201cbeside three point shooting what does she bring to the table man?\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote id=\"ig-tp-C7r8U0HPi-A\" data-text-post-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.threads.net\/@chennedycarter\/post\/C7r8U0HPi-A\" data-text-post-version=\"0\">\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Is Caitlin Clark being targeted?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Post by @chennedycarter<\/p>\n<p>View on Threads<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/stephen-smith-lights-analyst-wnba-delusion-caitlin-clark-jealousy-talks-wnba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carter<\/a> was a bit more vociferous after Monday\u2019s practice, telling everyone that she wasn\u2019t apologizing for the foul.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think at the end of the day, I\u2019m a competitor,\u201d she told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow that it\u2019s another day, I\u2019ve had an off day, now I can answer your questions and let you know how I really feel about things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I\u2019m a competitor, and I\u2019m going to compete no matter who you are, no matter who\u2019s in front of me,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019re getting at it. We\u2019re going back and forth. It\u2019s basketball. It\u2019s all hoops. After we finish the game, it\u2019s all love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But, did she have enough love to say she regretted a hard, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-caitlin-clark-hit-violent-cheap-shot-angel-reese-appears-celebrate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">off-ball foul<\/a>? The margin of victory for the Fever, who have only won two games this season, was one point \u2014 exactly the number of points scored by Clark on the ensuing free-throw for a gratuitous foul.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t necessarily helping the Sky any, particularly given the fact that losing to the Fever \u2014 who, despite the No. 1 pick in the last two WNBA drafts, are still struggling to put together a solid team around stars Clark and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/caitlin-clark-shines-wnba-pre-season-debut-front-sold-crowd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aliyah Boston<\/a> \u2014 is an embarrassment for any team in playoff contention.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s not as if this is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/wnba-player-throws-caitlin-clark-tantrum-backlash-dirty-foul-bring-table\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">helping Carter\u2019s reputation<\/a>, as many on social media noted:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Almost as if she\u2019s got issues. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/YOl7E8aX0D\">pic.twitter.com\/YOl7E8aX0D<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ruben_theiowan (@IAcitynative) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IAcitynative\/status\/1797836579446383097?\">June 4, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Carter was the No. 4 pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft but was suspended by the Atlanta Dream after staying in the locker room when the team came out during a 2021 game against the Las Vegas Aces. She later threatened to fight a teammate over playing time. The Dream said her suspension was due to \u201cconduct detrimental to the team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After a 2022 trade to the Los Angeles Sparks, she played 24 games before, as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/sparks\/story\/2023-03-17\/los-angeles-sparks-waive-guard-chennedy-carter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Angeles Times<\/a> reported, she was \u201cbenched for poor conduct during the season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After a year playing professionally in Turkey, she\u2019s back in the WNBA ranks.<\/p>\n<p>But, apparently, Carter believes she has nothing to apologize for and \u201cno regrets,\u201d despite the fact that she\u2019s known primarily for a hard foul on the league\u2019s biggest rising star.
