Chuck Schumer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democrats.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/majority-leader-schumer-statement-following-donald-trumps-comments-after-his-felony-conviction\">proclaimed<\/a>, \u201cThe undeniable fact is Donald Trump went through the same legal process that all Americans go through, he was tried according to the facts and the law, and he was found guilty by a jury of his peers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nothing could be further from the truth, and Schumer knows it because his brother\u2019s law firm, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-03-25\/wall-street-law-firm-emerges-as-n-y-power-center-in-biden-era?leadSource=uverify%252520wall\">branded<\/a> the \u201cBiden-Era N.Y. Power Center\u201d by Bloomberg, spurred the indictment of the former president.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-708444696\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c19a2bb2db91ee1add0289eedaa3090c fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-c19a2bb2db91ee1add0289eedaa3090c\"><\/div>\n<p>Sen. Schumer\u2019s brother, Robert Schumer, is a partner in that law firm, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton, and Garrison. As I <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/06\/03\/joe-bidens-fingerprints-are-all-over-the-criminal-prosecutions-of-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">detailed<\/a> Monday, Paul, Weiss granted three highly paid attorneys leaves of absence to join the Manhattan district attorney\u2019s office in its targeting of Donald Trump. And Alvin Bragg\u2019s prosecution of the former president came about only after the intentional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/03\/23\/nyregion\/mark-pomerantz-resignation-letter.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">leaking<\/a>\u00a0of a resignation letter from Mark Pomerantz, one of the Paul, Weiss attorneys on loan to the DA.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In his resignation letter, Pomerantz criticized Bragg for failing to seek criminal charges against Trump and for indefinitely suspending the investigation into the former president. The letter was soon provided to The New York Times, creating a political firestorm over the news that Bragg did not intend to charge Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Pomerantz\u2019s ploy worked: Bragg soon publicly claimed the investigation was ongoing and then moved to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/18\/nyregion\/trump-investigation-manhattan.html\">\u201cjump start\u201d<\/a>\u00a0his investigation into Trump by hiring yet another outsider, Matthew Colangelo.<\/p>\n<p>Colangelo left Biden\u2019s Department of Justice to join Bragg\u2019s get-Trump team, having previously been appointed by Biden as acting associate attorney general \u2014 the third-highest-ranking official in the DOJ. Following Colangelo\u2019s arrival, Bragg indicted Trump, resulting in last week\u2019s conviction.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-9d982c425cdb7e7733955e42c1a45a0f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-9d982c425cdb7e7733955e42c1a45a0f\"><\/div>\n<p>This road to Trump\u2019s conviction isn\u2019t even in the same universe as the \u201clegal process that all Americans go through.\u201d In fact, the Manhattan DA scoring a top criminal defense attorney and former federal prosecutor on leave of absence from Paul, Weiss to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/18\/nyregion\/trump-investigation-manhattan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">work<\/a>\u00a0\u201csolely on the Trump investigation\u201d was so out of the ordinary that even The New York Times\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/18\/nyregion\/trump-investigation-manhattan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">acknowledged<\/a> that \u201cthe hiring of an outsider is a highly unusual move for a prosecutor\u2019s office.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even more unusual, though, was Pomerantz\u2019s resignation letter that declared, \u201cI believe that Donald Trump is guilty of numerous felony violations of the Penal Law in connection with the preparation and use of his annual Statements of Financial Condition\u201d \u2014 accusations soon leaked to The New York Times, which led to a Biden administration lawyer leaving the DOJ to work on a state court prosecution. This is most assuredly not business as usual in the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Schumer undoubtedly knows this and Paul, Weiss\u2019s connections to the Manhattan DA\u2019s prosecution of Donald Trump because his brother is a partner at the firm. And so does Joe Biden, who during a June 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/06\/18\/joe-biden-is-in-new-york-to-fundraise-for-his-2020-campaign\/\">fundraiser<\/a> at Paul, Weiss gave a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-06-18\/d-amato-former-gop-senator-attends-biden-new-york-fundraiser\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shoutout<\/a>\u201d to Robert Schumer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Paul, Weiss\u2019s connections to Biden extend much further, though, which is why Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-03-25\/wall-street-law-firm-emerges-as-n-y-power-center-in-biden-era?leadSource=uverify%252520wall\">branded<\/a> the law firm the \u201cBiden-Era N.Y. Power Center.\u201d But now that the Manhattan show trial is over, it is Chuck Schumer\u2019s collaboration with his brother that will be interesting to watch because Robert Schumer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paulweiss.com\/professionals\/partners-and-counsel\/robert-b-schumer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">serves<\/a> on the New York senator\u2019s \u201cJudicial Selection Committee.\u201d That committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsday.com\/opinion\/newsday-opinion-the-point-newsletter-edny-eastern-district-new-york-covid-19-vaccines-nassau-county-minimum-wage-a33814\">reportedly<\/a> helps Sen. Schumer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/states\/new-york\/albany\/story\/2015\/03\/capital-public-law-report-how-schumer-screens-for-us-attorney-aka-epidemic-023217\">screen<\/a> individuals for federal judgeships and U.S. attorney positions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-20d6cb119648e35aad39144a466c6f4e fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-20d6cb119648e35aad39144a466c6f4e\"><\/div>\n<p>Between the attorneys pushing through the Manhattan prosecution and those assisting Special Counsel Jack Smith in his two criminal cases against Donald Trump, there\u2019s likely a long line of attorneys waiting to be put on a short list for Chuck Schumer and President Biden.
