Biden&#8217;s empathy \u200dand policy focus on the middle class are emphasized for voter connection.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Democrats<\/a> are not entirely on the same page regarding President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-about-to-lose-one-of-his-economic-talking-points\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s About To Lose One of His Economic Talking Points\">economic talking points<\/a>, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>economy<\/a> poised to be the No. voter 1 issue of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>2024 election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats disagree over how much Biden should criticize <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>businesses<\/a> for their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/inflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>contributions to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/consumer-prices-outpace-americans-wage-growth-as-inflation-surges\/\" title=\"Consumer Prices Outpace Americans\u2019 Wage Growth As Inflation Surges\">increased consumer prices<\/a><\/a> so he does not portray himself as anti-business and anti-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gdp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>economic growth<\/a> as polling indicates voters are down on the economy.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/center-for-american-progress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for American Progress<\/a> Action communications senior adviser Colin Seeberger and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/chuck-schumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer<\/a> (D-NY), are encouraging Biden to pick fights with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/corporations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">corporations<\/a> and label them as greedy, as well as argue that former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> would raise costs for families if he is reelected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust as he has in taking on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/insulin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>insulin<\/a> manufacturers, he should call out by name companies like W.K. Kellogg or Kimberly-Clark who, respectively, continue to increase the price of groceries like cereal or diapers while at the same time citing increasing profits in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/amazons-grocery-business-has-become-an-expensive-hobby\/\" title=\"Amazon\u2019s Grocery Business Has Become an \u201cExpensive Hobby\u201d\">quarterly earnings calls<\/a>,\u201d Seeberger told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> of the food manufacturer and the producer of Huggies disposable diapers.<\/p>\n<p>Biden should also support lawsuits brought by state attorneys general, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/arizona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Arizona<\/a>\u2018s Kris Mayes, who is suing\u00a0property management software company RealPage for allegedly illegally conspiring with landlords to raise rent costs, according to Seeberger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy picking these fights, he can show <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/working-class\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>working-class<\/a> and blue-collar voters that he understands the affordability challenges they\u2019re grappling with every single day,\u201d Seeberger said. \u201cOne of the best examples of this working in the president\u2019s favor was when he became the first president in American history to stand on a picket line and demand the Big Three cut <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/uaw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>autoworkers<\/a> in on the massive profits they helped generate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>White House<\/a> defended Biden\u2019s economic messaging, contending the president acknowledges \u201cthe American people are tired of being taken advantage of and being played for suckers\u201d as Schumer and other Democrats, for example, seek the prosecution of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/oil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>oil<\/a> conglomerates for price gouging.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why he has remained focused on taking action against corporate greed, price gouging, and hidden junk fees to lower prices and give families more breathing room,\u201d White House spokesman Jeremy Edwards told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cWhile special interests are trying to stop these efforts and keep prices high, often with the support of congressional Republicans, major companies are already answering the president\u2019s call to lower prices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Simultaneously, while Third Way economic program Senior Vice President Gabriel Horwitz encouraged Biden to scrutinize businesses that price gouge, he discouraged the \u201cfar too many\u201d Democrats who would prefer the party to be perceived as anti-business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to make sure that rules and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/regulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>regulations<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/federal-courts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>courts<\/a> and everything is thrown at them to get them to stop, but Democrats are vulnerable on the economy because voters believe we don\u2019t care about economic growth, we don\u2019t value hard work, and they don\u2019t think we understand business,\u201d Horwitz told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cThere\u2019s really a lane there for all Democrats, but really President Biden, when he talks about this, you know, talking about giving workers the opportunity to earn a good life and making sure that our businesses are competitive and successful here because when American businesses are successful, American workers are successful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe talks about that, but there\u2019s many in the party that like to sway a little bit more left,\u201d he said. \u201cA Democrat can be both pro-business and pro-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/labor-unions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>worker<\/a>. We fundamentally think that, and voters want that, especially these swing voters we need to win. I think if Democrats are overweighted on just the Left, populist, anti-business, it doesn\u2019t necessarily serve them in the places that they need to win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans traditionally have a polling edge over Democrats on the economy. But former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/barack-obama\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Barack Obama<\/a>, for example, was able to overcome an economic polling deficit during his reelection campaign because he was more likeable than 2012 Republican nominee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mitt-romney\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Mitt Romney<\/a>, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/156857\/obama-wins-likability-romney-economy.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Gallup<\/a> data.<\/p>\n<p>To that end, Seeberger, of the Center for American Progress Action, is encouraging Biden to draw a \u201csharper contrast\u201d with Trump, particularly regarding his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/taxes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/marketmind-quiet-start-after-torrid-quarter\/\" title=\"Marketmind: Quiet start after torrid quarter\">tax cut proposals<\/a><\/a> for wealthy people and businesses. But for Brookings Institution Center for Technology Innovation senior fellow Darrell West, Biden should demonstrate more empathy \u201cso voters know he cares and will fight for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf people believe he is indifferent or not caring, he will lose the election,\u201d West told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t have to have a great economy to win, but he must show voters he understands their pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A White House official added Biden\u2019s economic policies are \u201cabout building a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-tries-to-shake-low-marks-on-economy-with-bidenomics-push\/\" title=\"Biden aims to boost economy with 'Bidenomics' push.\">stronger middle class<\/a>, and we will continue [to] meet people where they are to share that vision, emphasizing the president\u2019s fight against corporate greed, historic record of economic and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/unemployment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>job growth<\/a>, and his forward-looking agenda, specifically because he recognizes many Americans are still struggling to pay their bills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the campaign side, Biden spokesman Charles Lutvak amplified the president\u2019s trip to his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania, in April to discuss the economy and ads the team has made with a similar message.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoters want a president who fights for them and takes on corporate greed \u2014 Joe Biden is doing that relentlessly and effectively, while Donald Trump has consistently put his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/fundraising\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>billionaire donors<\/a> and big corporations ahead of the middle class,\u201d Lutvak told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cVoters are better off than they were four years ago, and they will be better off four years from now under President Biden, who will continue to tackle junk fees instead of selling out working families, supercharging inflation, and shipping jobs to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>China<\/a> like Donald Trump will if he\u2019s elected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Trump campaign is attempting to create its own contrast, arguing that \u201cinflation was nonexistent, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gas-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>gasoline<\/a> was cheap, groceries were affordable, and the American dream was alive and well\u201d under the former president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to Joe Biden\u2019s out-of-control spending, prices are still nearly 20% higher than they were four years ago, gas prices have hit record highs, and wages are not keeping up with the increasing pace of inflation,\u201d Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cAmericans trust President Trump on the issue of the economy because they know his pro-growth, pro-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>energy<\/a>, low-tax agenda will reduce inflation and put more money in their pockets, and that\u2019s why President Trump is crushing Joe Biden in nearly every single poll.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democrats are divided on President Joe Biden&#8217;s economic messaging as the economy becomes a key voter concern for the 2024 election.
