It wasn\u2019t an invitation \u2014 just to let me know that they were making an announcement tomorrow,\u201d Salinas said in an exclusive interview with the <em>Washington Examiner <\/em>on Monday. \u201cDid they invite me? No. \u2026 I was outspoken against the White House when we were getting slammed [with illegal immigration].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other Texas mayors, Ramiro Garza of Edinburg, John Cowen Jr. of Brownsville, and Oscar Leeser of El Paso, all confirmed to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> on Monday that they had been personally invited to Washington for the executive order-signing Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are appreciative of the funding we have received from the federal government so that our efforts don\u2019t fall on the backs of El Paso taxpayers,\u201d Leeser said in a statement. \u201cI look forward to hearing more about the President\u2019s plan on Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Salinas dismissed the Tuesday event as nothing more than a last-ditch effort to save face ahead of the election on the No. 1 issue to U.S. voters: immigration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s good this is going into place, but is it politically driven five months before the election? I think so,\u201d Salinas said.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic mayor, who is a lawyer, questioned the legal ground for Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/what-you-need-to-know-about-trumps-latest-drug-pricing-moves\/\" title=\"What You Need To Know About Trump\u2019s Latest Drug Pricing Moves\">executive action<\/a> given that for more than three years, the White House and Department of Homeland Security have each maintained that only Congress can address \u201cbroken\u201d immigration laws, not the executive branch of government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it was that quick and easy to issue an executive order, why not do it in December when we were getting swamped with 3[,000]-4,000 people a day? It\u2019s hard for me to forget that,\u201d Salinas said. \u201cAs much as I want to support [Biden] \u2014 and by no means am I a Republican \u2014 but he\u2019s been saying that Congress does it, and now you\u2019re doing something about it without Congress. Why couldn\u2019t he do it before? One-hundred percent, it\u2019s politically driven.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The White House is expected to announce an\u00a0executive order\u00a0Tuesday that effectively shuts down the U.S.-Mexico border to illegal immigration. Under the Biden administration, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3007611\/border-officials-encounter-10-million-migrants-under-biden-september-green\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nearly 10 million<\/a> non-U.S. citizens have been encountered attempting to enter the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The White House has not yet publicly disclosed details of the order, but it is expected to resemble a Senate proposal that House Republicans came out against earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>The order would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-to-issue-border-executive-order-in-change-of-past-stance\/\" title=\"Biden to issue new border executive order, shifting from previous position\">affect adult immigrants<\/a> who cross the border and seek asylum.
