Loren Merchan\u2019s firm, Authentic Campaigns, did not respond to The Federalist\u2019s questions about the obvious conflict of interest her position poses. <\/p>\n<p>After a jury pulled from a pool of Biden voters found Trump guilty of 34 counts of bookkeeping fraud, Democrat California Rep. Adam Schiff, a client of Authentic Campaigns, immediately began fundraising off of the verdict. <\/p>\n<p>Democrat California Rep. Adam Schiff, a client of Authentic Campaigns, spent the days after a jury pulled from a pool of Biden voters found Trump guilty of 34 counts of bookkeeping fraud, fundraising off of the verdict. Schiff, listed as Authentic Campaigns\u2019 highest-paying client, has made 32 payments totaling nearly $5 million to the firm in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nevada-to-hold-first-presidential-primary-of-2024-election-cycle\/\" title=\"Nevada To Hold First Presidential Primary Of 2024 Election Cycle\">2024 election cycle<\/a>, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/campaign-expenditures\/vendor?year=2024&#038;vendor=Authentic%20Campaigns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Open Secrets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a campaign fundraising email obtained by The Federalist, Schiff\u2019s campaign urged its supporters to rush donations: \u201cRush $10 to my campaign before our May fundraising deadline at midnight tonight to help defeat Trump and defend the rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>The Federalist submitted multiple requests for comment to the firm but received no response regarding the conflict of interest created by Judge Merchan\u2019s daughter\u2019s firm raising millions from\u00a0a case he presided over.<\/p>\n<p>Since last April, Schiff has raised $20 million by leveraging Trump\u2019s indictment, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/03\/30\/us-news\/dem-clients-of-daughter-of-judge-in-trump-trial-raised-90m-off-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Post.<\/a> In a fundraising email, he stated, \u201cTrump will respond as he always does\u2014playing the victim and blaming others for having the temerity to investigate him in the first place.\u201d He followed by saying, \u201cRush $10 to my campaign right now to help us prepare for Trump\u2019s inevitable attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another major client of Merchan\u2019s firm, Senate Majority PAC, has also been fundraising off the case. In an email received by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/trump-democrats-immediately-begin-fundraising-off-indictment-our-work-isnt-over\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fox News<\/a>, the PAC stated, \u201cBREAKING NEWS: Donald Trump indicted by Manhattan grand jury. This is an important moment for our democracy, but our work isn\u2019t over. We must continue protecting our Senate majority from GOP extremists. Please, rush in $10 (becomes $60) to help Defend the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to FCC filings, Judge Merchan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/receipts\/individual-contributions\/?contributor_name=Juan+Merchan&#038;contributor_occupation=Judge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gave <\/a>money to the Biden campaign and two anti-Trump PACs, Stop Republicans and Progressive Turnout Project, the latter of which also raised <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TurnoutPAC\/status\/1796532927515550155\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">money off the verdict<\/a>. These donations directly violate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanbar.org\/groups\/professional_responsibility\/publications\/model_code_of_judicial_conduct\/model_code_of_judicial_conduct_canon_4\/rule4_1politicalandcampaignactivitiesofjudgesandjudicial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rule 4.1<\/a> of the American Bar Association, which states judges shall not \u201cmake a contribution to a political organization or a candidate for public office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge Merchan\u2019s prejudice towards Trump was evident throughout the trial. At one point, Merchan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/judge-finds-trump-violated-gag-order-threatens-jail-rcna150560\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">threatened <\/a>to jail the former president \u201cif necessary\u201d  for violating a gag order designed to prevent Trump from publicly criticizing the proceedings. <\/p>\n<p>The judge also strictly limited testimony from Trump\u2019s expert witnesses, highlighting his partisanship. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2024\/05\/20\/trump-hush-money-criminal-trial\/judge-limits-trumps-expert-00158857\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Politico<\/a>, Merchan outright rejected election law expert Brad Smith from speaking on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/google-expands-security-efforts-ahead-of-2022-elections\/\" title=\"Google Expands Security Efforts Ahead of 2022 Elections\">finance law<\/a> and restricted the former FEC member to speaking only on \u201cgeneral definitions and terms.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Perhaps most egregiously, Judge Merchan <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/30\/judge-merchans-jury-instructions-prove-trumps-trial-is-about-power-not-the-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">instructed <\/a>jurors prior to their deliberation that they need not reach a unanimous consensus regarding what \u201cother crime\u201d Trump was supposedly covering up with his bookkeeping \u2014 the basis on which Bragg brought the felony prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vance.senate.gov\/press-releases\/senator-vance-calls-for-criminal-investigation-into-judge-merchan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Ohio Republican Rep. JD Vance urged the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate Merchan\u2019s partisan behavior and consider \u201cmany likely co-conspirators,\u201d referring to Judge Merchan\u2019s daughter, president of the previously mentioned progressive consulting firm.<\/p>\n<p>Vance has given Garland until June 28, 2024, to respond regarding whether he will open a criminal investigation into the conduct of Judge Merchan and other potential co-conspirators, which include Christopher Conroy, Matthew Colangelo, and Alvin Bragg.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Arianna Villarreal is a summer intern at The Federalist.
