The trial, attended by Jill Biden, may include testimonies\u200c from family members, including Hunter&#8217;s ex-wife and late\u200d brother&#8217;s widow.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/joe-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> released a statement on Monday expressing support for his son, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/hunter-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hunter Biden<\/a>, as jury selection in the younger Biden\u2019s federal gun trial in Delaware got underway.<\/p>\n<p>The elder Biden made reference to his son\u2019s effort to overcome drug addiction \u2014 a key factor in the felony charges at the heart of the case \u2014 and sought to emphasize his statement was a personal one as some have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-house-democrat-defends-loving-father-biden-says-hunter-has-done-nothing-wrong\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">criticized him<\/a> for previously speaking publicly about the federal investigation into Hunter Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am the President, but I am also a Dad,\u201d President Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KellyO\/status\/1797620972637278709\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cJill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. Hunter\u2019s resilience in the face of adversity and the strength he has brought to his recovery are inspiring to us. A lot of families have loved ones who have overcome addiction and know what we mean.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the President, I don\u2019t and won\u2019t comment on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jill-biden-joins-hunter-in-federal-court-on-day-one-of-trial\/\" title=\"Jill Biden Attends Hunter's Trial in Federal Court\">pending federal cases<\/a>, but as a Dad, I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him, and respect for his strength,\u201d he added. \u201cOur family has been through a lot together, and Jill and I are going to continue to be there for Hunter and our family with our love and support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden, 54, faces two felony gun offenses for lying on\u00a0paperwork to buy a revolver in 2018 and a third for owning that firearm for 11 days while being a drug addict, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/sco-weiss\/pr\/grand-jury-returns-indictment-charging-robert-hunter-biden-three-felonies-related-his\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> the Department of Justice. The first son pleaded not guilty to the charges, which could land Hunter Biden in prison for up to 25 years if he is convicted.<\/p>\n<p>First lady Jill Biden joined Hunter Biden and his wife, Melissa Cohen, at the courthouse in Wilmington, Delaware, for the first day of the trial. The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2024\/06\/03\/hunter-biden-gun-trial-live-updates-jury-selection\/#author-box\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that the judge predicted jury selection could last until Wednesday and the trial is estimated to last up to two weeks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/06\/03\/hunter-biden-trial-witnesses-00161182\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Witnesses may include<\/a> Hunter Biden\u2019s ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle, and his late brother Beau Biden\u2019s wife, Hallie Biden, with whom Hunter Biden had a relationship after Beau Biden died of brain cancer in 2015. Hallie Biden, whose public disposal of the gun <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2024\/06\/02\/hunter-biden-beau-widow-gun-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">led up to the charges<\/a>, received a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/joe-biden-visits-hallie-biden-beaus-widow-and-hunters-lover-before-she-testifies-in-hunters-trial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visit<\/a> from President Biden at her home last week.<\/p>\n<p>The trial in Delaware begins this week after a judge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/judge-rejects-hunter-bidens-bid-to-delay-his-june-trial-on-gun-charges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rejected<\/a> Hunter Biden\u2019s bid to delay the prosecution. The trial in California had also been scheduled for June 20 but has since been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/hunter-biden-federal-tax-trial-delay\/3418729\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pushed back<\/a> to September. The indictments in both cases, which took shape after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/hunter-biden-plea-deal-almost-derails-after-questions-about-scope-of-deal-immunity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collapse of a plea deal last year<\/a>, are spearheaded by special counsel David Weiss.<\/p>\n<p>POLITICO recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/05\/15\/hunter-biden-trial-psychological-torment-00158028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cited<\/a> unnamed advisers who said members of the first family are fretting how the \u201cweight\u201d of Hunter Biden going to trial will affect President Biden in an already difficult time politically.
