Upper III<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 3, 2024 at 8:48am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Whomever else he might face in court today as his trial on federal gun charges kicks off, presidential son Hunter Biden will have at least one friendly face in the gallery.<\/p>\n<p>First lady Jill Biden traveled to the Delaware courthouse where the trial was scheduled to begin Monday morning in an apparent show of support for her stepson.<\/p>\n<p>Both Bidens, along with President Joe Biden himself, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/defense-says-fbi-fed-drugs-to-alleged-whitmer-kidnapping-plotters-before-the-tapes-rolled\/\" title=\"Defense Says FBI Fed Drugs to Alleged Whitmer Kidnapping Plotters Before the Tapes Rolled\">apparently spent<\/a> the weekend together at the White House and then in Wilmington, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/4699899-hunter-biden-trial-jill-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden and the first lady spent Sunday night in Wilmington, where Hunter Biden\u2019s trial is taking place,\u201d The Hill reported. \u201cThe Bidens have a residence in Wilmington and frequently travel there on the weekends. Hunter Biden was spotted at the White House last Friday and traveled with the family to Delaware ahead of his trial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was considered unlikely that the president himself would make an appearance at the courthouse, as \u201che and the White House have tried to maintain a distance from the legal proceedings\u201d buffeting Hunter, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s on record, however, as claiming that his son did \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/sons-done-nothing-wrong-joe-biden-defends-hunter-msnbc-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nothing wrong<\/a>\u201d and for expressing his pride over Hunter Biden\u2019s apparently successful struggles with drug addiction.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden is on trial for allegedly lying on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/24-house-republicans-demand-hunter-biden-investigated-allegedly-illegally-buying-gun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">federal form<\/a> he completed in order to buy a gun in 2018, The Hill reported.<\/p>\n<p>Despite being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hunter-biden-confirms-addiction-crack-near-time-background-check-purchase-gun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">addicted to cocaine<\/a>, he claimed that he didn\u2019t use drugs, presumably knowing that to do otherwise on the form would prevent him from purchasing a firearm.<\/p>\n<p>He also faces charges for purchasing the weapon while using illegal drugs and for lying to the firearms dealer from whom he purchased it, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/6984661\/hunter-biden-trial-gun-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Will Hunter Biden be found guilty in this trial?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Hunter Biden, 54, faces a maximum prison sentence of 25 years if convicted on all three charges, Time noted. However, given that he is a first-time offender \u2014 not to mention the president\u2019s son \u2014 it\u2019s unlikely that he would serve such a heavy sentence, the outlet suggested.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of how he is sentenced, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/joe-biden\/white-house-says-no-questions-joe-biden-pardoning-son-persist-rcna129101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a> reported last year that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/prominent-democratic-congresswoman-announces-cancer-diagnosis-road-ahead-will-not-easy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President Biden<\/a> claimed he would not offer his son a presidential pardon if he\u2019s convicted, though even NBC acknowledged that not everyone believed those claims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bond between father and son is deep enough that some Democratic lawmakers and fundraisers believe a pardon may be inevitable, despite the denials coming from the White House,\u201d the outlet reported in December.<\/p>\n<p>Jury selection in the case began today, and was expected to last into tomorrow as the judge seeks to find 12 jurors who can claim convincingly to be impartial about the president\u2019s son.<\/p>\n<p>Jill Biden is Hunter\u2019s stepmother and Joe Biden\u2019s second wife.
