Various sources have criticized the DOJ&#8217;s reasoning, \u200cpointing to potential manipulation risks and a possible \u2063attempt to shield the President&#8217;s perceived vulnerabilities. Key \u200cfigures like Jonathan\u200b Turley have highlighted the implications of such actions for\u200d democracy and public trust.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/commentary\/\">  Commentary <\/a>  <\/p>\n<h2>DOJ Makes Unprecedented Claim to Withhold Biden Audio Tape &#8211; How Far Will We Let This Go?<\/h2>\n<p> <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/ccavanaugh\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/ccavanaugh\/%20\"><span>Connor Cavanaugh<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 3, 2024 at 5:29am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>It\u2019s starting to get infuriating just how obviously biased the Justice Department is for President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>The supposed pillar of justice and fairness in America argued in a court filing on Friday that it can\u2019t release the audio from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/special-counsel-hur-devastates-biden-house-testimony-president-willfully-retained-classified-materials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">special counsel Robert Hur\u2019s<\/a> questioning of Biden because it could be used to make fake, AI versions of it, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/doj-claims-cant-release-biden-hur-interview-due-threat-ai-deepfakes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe passage of time and advancements in audio, artificial intelligence, and \u2018deep fake\u2019 technologies only amplify concerns about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-staunchly-opposes-critical-race-theory-in-schools-opponent-rants-hes-seeking-a-race-war\/\" title=\"DeSantis Staunchly Opposes Critical Race Theory In Schools. Opponent Rants He\u2019s Seeking A \u2018Race War\u2019\">malicious manipulation<\/a> of audio files,\u201d Associate Deputy Attorney General Bradley Weinsheimer wrote in the <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.heritage.org\/DOJ-MSJ-Biden-Hur-Audio.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">court filing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/secret-recording-allegedly-shows-iranian-foreign-minister-admitting-ukrainian-flight-might-have-been-targeted\/\" title=\"Secret Recording Allegedly Shows Iranian Foreign Minister Admitting Ukrainian Flight Might Have Been Targeted\">audio recording<\/a> is released here, it is easy to foresee that it could be improperly altered, and that the altered file could be passed off as an authentic recording and widely distributed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As if that argument wasn\u2019t already weak enough, the DOJ even admitted that there was already enough out there to create deepfakes of Biden\u2019s interview, but claimed releasing the real audio would only make it worse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be sure, other raw material to create a deepfake of President Biden\u2019s voice is already available, but release of the audio recording presents unique risks: if it were public knowledge that the audio recording has been released, it becomes easier for malicious actors to pass off an altered file as the true recording.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the DOJ attempts to argue this for Biden, the real reason is abundantly obvious:<\/p>\n<p>The tapes would expose him for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/star-comedian-seen-enough-declares-joe-biden-dementia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">senile, past-his-prime<\/a> man he is.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanturley.org\/2024\/06\/02\/the-deepfake-privilege-the-justice-department-makes-startling-claim-to-withhold-the-biden-hur-audiotape\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog post<\/a> on Saturday, George Washington law professor Jonathan Turley blasted the DOJ argument as lacking precedent \u201chard to square with precedent or logic.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should this audiotape be released to the public?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cFor a president who is already carefully insulated from questions and controlled in public appearances, the argument would allow staff to completely control any public or, more importantly, congressional review of his actual speech and discourse,\u201d wrote Turley, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/legal-expert-jonathan-turley-provides-ray-hope-trump-guilty-verdict-case-will-reversed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">outspoken critic<\/a> of the Democrats distorting the law to attack former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn seeking to prevent \u2018malicious actors\u2019 from altering reality, the government is claiming the right to frame reality as an inherent constitutional prerogative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mocking the DOJ claim as a \u201cdeepfake privilege,\u201d Turley wrote that the precedent it would set is dangerous to a free country. Americans can\u2019t let it go any further.<\/p>\n<p>Hur has already stated he declined to charge Biden because the perception of Biden\u2019s poor mental abilities would make it difficult to win a conviction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/special-counsel-report-states-biden-elderly-man-poor-memory-dealing-massive-blow-democrats-live-cnn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report from Hur states<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the transcripts from the interview <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/joe-biden\/full-text-robert-hur-biden-classified-documents-interview-pdf-rcna142956\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have been released<\/a> that show just how out of it President Biden was.<\/p>\n<p>Whether Biden was vague about when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/5-damning-joe-biden-quotes-hur-interview-not-senility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stopped being vice president<\/a> or apparently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/transcript-bidens-infamous-special-counsel-interview-released-even-worse-previously-thought\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">couldn\u2019t remember<\/a> when his son, Beau, died, it was clear that the commander in chief had no clue what was going on.<\/p>\n<p>So maybe the DOJ should just be honest and say why it really isn\u2019t releasing the audio from the interview.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not for the contrived reason it claims, as the department has already said that AI deepfakes can be made with what\u2019s out now.<\/p>\n<p>The real reason is to protect Biden from his own age \u2014 and conceal its effects from the country.<\/p>\n<p>We get it; he looked awful in the interview. But don\u2019t lie to the American people.<\/p>\n<p>Or at a bare minimum, get a little better at lying.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, the DOJ excuses are beyond infuriating.
