Morens&#8217; emails indicated \u2063deletion of records and implied Fauci&#8217;s involvement in\u2064 protecting a scientist.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former National Institutes of Health official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/anthony-fauci\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Anthony Fauci\">Anthony Fauci<\/a> distanced himself from an aide\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/3021456\/nih-email-scandal-covid-19-origins-inquiry-fauci\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"email scandal\">email scandal<\/a> during a Monday morning hearing before Congress.<\/p>\n<p>David Morens, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/top-biden-adviser-departing-white-house-at-months-end\/\" title=\"Biden's top adviser leaving White House soon.\">longtime senior adviser<\/a> to Fauci, turned over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/3021456\/nih-email-scandal-covid-19-origins-inquiry-fauci\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Coronavirus Pandemic\">thousands of emails<\/a> to the Select Subcommittee on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Coronavirus Pandemic\">Coronavirus Pandemic<\/a> earlier this year, many of which detailed his efforts to circumvent open records laws.<\/p>\n<p>Morens wrote in private emails turned over to the committee that he deleted information that could be subject to a freedom of information request and also suggested that Fauci was trying to \u201cprotect\u201d the scientist Peter Daszak, who has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/3012771\/hhs-suspends-funding-to-head-of-organization-that-funded-wuhan-coronavirus-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"cut off\">cut off<\/a> from federal funding. <\/p>\n<p>While Morens implied that he spoke regularly with Fauci and even that he could walk into his office or deliver materials to his home in order to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-declares-war-on-free-press-in-desperate-bid-to-contain-border-crisis\/\" title=\"Biden Admin Declares War on Free Press in Desperate Bid to Contain Border Crisis\">avoid leaving<\/a> a paper trail, Fauci told members of Congress those statements are not accurate. <\/p>\n<p>Fauci answered \u201cyes\u201d when asked if using personal email for official business violates NIAID policy and when asked if deleting official records to avoid transparency laws violates policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe should not have been doing that,\u201d Fauci said. On Morens\u2019s claims that Fauci tried to protect Daszak, the scientist said, \u201cI don\u2019t know where he got that, but that\u2019s not true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fauci and Morens worked in separate office buildings, he told the committee, and Morens did not regularly attend meetings of NIAID leadership. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Morens testified that he could walk into your office anytime he wanted to, is that true?\u201d Rep. James Comer (R-KY) asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo. That\u2019s not true,\u201d Fauci answered. \u201cYou don\u2019t just walk into the office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans on the committee are now attempting to get Fauci\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-73976-ballots-released-by-maricopa-county-56-1-for-donald-trump\/\" title=\"BREAKING: 73,976 Ballots Released By Maricopa County \u2014 56.1% FOR DONALD TRUMP\">private email<\/a> and phone records in the wake of the Morens findings.
