The complaint, backed by email evidence, urges an inquiry into the official&#8217;s breach of the UN&#8217;s Code of Conduct.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A United Nations watchdog filed a complaint Monday morning against a top official at the international organization for trying to skirt the rules of accepting honorariums. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The complaint is based on <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a series of emails obtained by The Daily Wire in which a top official was duped<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  by the satirical \u201cChief Rabbi of Gaza\u201d to speak at an anti-Israel protest. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Francesca Albanese, the UN\u2019s Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories, was fooled last month by the invite and honorarium offer to speak at Columbia University\u2019s encampment by the parody account \u201cRabbi Linda Goldstein,\u201d known for using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/you-get-a-tougher-skin-and-weird-s-happens-im-looking-forward-to-that-greg-gutfeld-on-the-launch-of-his-late-night-fox-news-show-gutfeld\/\" title=\"\u2018You Get A Tougher Skin And Weird S*** Happens. I\u2019m Looking Forward To That.\u2019 Greg Gutfeld On The Launch Of His Late-Night Fox News Show, \u2018Gutfeld!\u2019\">progressive talking points<\/a> to mock anti-Israel protesters. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the emails, Albanese\u2019s assistant proposed the eight-month anniversary of Hamas\u2019 attack for the speech, asked for the Zoom link, and requested that the honorarium amount be given to an outside organization to fund her assistant\u2019s fellowship. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hillel Neuer, the executive director of <a href=\"https:\/\/unwatch.org\/home\/hillelneuer\/\">UN Watch<\/a>, filed a complaint on Monday calling for an investigation into Albanese \u201cillegally requesting payments for work done in official capacity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As the evidence shows, Ms. Albanese is engaged in a practice by which she knowingly and unethically circumvents this prohibition, by requesting instead that, in exchange for her lectures, payments by external groups be made to her research assistant,\u201d Neuer wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Excellencies, in light of the foregoing, we respectfully request that you commence an immediate and independent investigation into Ms. Albanese\u2019s violations of the Code of Conduct,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Neuer requested a full disclosure of all of Albanese\u2019s payments, whether direct or indirect, the name of the institute that was going to send the invoice, and an explanation into the legality of Albanese\u2019s actions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The letter was addressed to UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Goldstein is a well-known parody account that uses progressive anti-Zionist language to make jokes about the anti-Israel movement several times a day on X.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOn behalf of the Gaza solidarity encampment at Columbia University, we wish to invite Special Rapporteur Albanese to deliver a keynote address at her convenience to the thousands of students gathered at the camp,\u201d Goldstein wrote to Albanese in the invitation. \u201cMany anti-Zionist Jews like myself have taken a leading role, and we would be honored to have you. I look forward to hearing from you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Email correspondences indicate that Albanese was willing to participate. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Research assistant, Eleonora De Martin, responded to the invitation, asking for more details on the topic and the length. \u201cIn full solidarity with what you are doing, Ms Albanese would like to know some more details on her intervention,\u201d De Martin wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">De Martin maintained interest in the proposition, even after being told it was a speech about the \u201cmorality of the intifada.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c[W]e want to hear about the \u2018Morality of the Intifada,\u2019 which Zionists have co-opted and turned into a dirty word,\u201d Goldstein wrote. \u201cThere is also a small honorarium available.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">De Martin responded, asking if Albanese could speak on May 7\u2014the eight-month anniversary of the Hamas attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIf I understood correctly, you would like Ms Albanese to deliver a keynote speech of around 15\/20 minutes to the students,\u201d De Martin said, adding that Albanese could not officially accept an honorarium, but asked for it to go elsewhere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMoreover, concerning the honorarium, she cannot take honorarium for anything she does in her official capacity,\u201d De Martin wrote. \u201cHowever, she kindly asks for this honorarium to be transferred to the Fellowship of her volunteer which supports her mandate work. Could you please provide some detail on the sum of the honorarium? The research institute will then send you the invoice for payment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sara Troian, another research assistant, told The Daily Wire that Alabanese \u201cnever agreed to Linda Goldstein\u2019s request,\u201d even though emails show her team asked for a Zoom link. The assistant added that she wanted the honorarium to be sent to her university to fund her own work.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_734009\" style=\"width: 333px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-734009\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Francesca Albanese\u2019s staff asked to speak to the Columbia University encampment on the seven-month anniversary of the Hamas massacre of Israeli civilians.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cRegarding the honorarium, there seems to be some confusion: it was me proposing that it would be sent to my University for the purpose to fund my fellowship,\u201d Troian said. \u201cThe Erasmus University of Rotterdam, which hosts me as a Research Fellow, collects funds from individual donors with the only purpose of accompanying the Special Rapporteur in her country-missions. My work of support to the Special Rapporteur\u2019s mandate is fully voluntary and I do not get paid for it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After Goldstein asked if the honorarium could be donated to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) instead, Albanese\u2019s team stopped replying. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIs it okay if it\u2019s donated to UNRWA in her honor instead?\u201d Goldstein wrote. \u201cSince I was displaced from Gaza as Chief Rabbi after October 7 it\u2019s near and dear to us.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_734007\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-734007\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Francesca Albanese, the embattled UN\u2019s Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories was duped by a satirical X account.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Troian said Albanese\u2019s team did not respond to the last message because they realized Goldstein \u201cwas not a reliable account.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The character of Goldstein told The Daily Wire that she fears her \u201carch-nemesis Hillel Neuer is probably the most effective Zionist.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAll of us anti-Zionists (NOT anti-Semites) fear him,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAs the Chief Rabbi of Gaza, I know how it feels to be targeted by Zionists,\u201d Goldstein said. \u201cPerhaps if she\u2019d follow through with her speech and hadn\u2019t disrespected the Chief Rabbi of Gaza, her ethical issues wouldn\u2019t have come to light.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Albanese is known for inflammatory anti-Israel rhetoric which led to her being barred from the Jewish state in February after she contended that French President Emanuel Macron was wrong for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/macron-hosts-memorial-for-oct-7-the-biggest-antisemitic-massacre-of-our-century\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">labeling<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  Hamas\u2019 October 7 massacre as the \u201cbiggest anti-Semitic massacre of our century.\u201d She instead said the attack was \u201claunched as a way to break the occupation against apartheid.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Daily Wire <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/embattled-un-official-doubles-down-at-harvard-says-israel-has-no-right-to-self-defense\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">previously reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  in February that Albanese told Harvard University students that Israel did not have the right to defend itself from the terrorists who raped, murdered, and burned people and homes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt didn\u2019t have the right to act in self-defense, meaning waging a war because it couldn\u2019t wage a war against the people it maintains under occupation,\u201d Albanese said. \u201cWhat Israel had to do was to repel the attack on its own territory, arrest and detain and treat humanely the people who had been arrested and ensure justice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A UN watchdog lodged a complaint against a senior official for evading honorarium rules.
