The situation reflects ongoing\u200b debates about sportsmanship and \u200brepercussions in \u2063the league.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>    <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/bchai\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/bchai\/%20\"><span>Bryan Chai<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   June 2, 2024 at 1:03pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>The WNBA has responded to the latest cheap shot against Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark \u2014 but is it enough?<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/caitlin-clark-chennedy-carter-foul-wnba-4e92f8ce52fefe62b1d14a28f36ff1b5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a>, the WNBA has upgraded the \u201ccommon\u201d (albeit cheap) foul committed against Clark during a matinee game Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>During the 71-70 Fever win over the Chicago Sky, a verbal exchange between Clark and Sky guard Chennedy Carter in the third quarter led to the latter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-caitlin-clark-hit-violent-cheap-shot-angel-reese-appears-celebrate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shoulder-checking<\/a> Clark in a play that had nothing to do with basketball.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t expecting it,\u201d Clark said after the game, according to the AP. \u201cIt is what it is. It\u2019s a physical game. Go make the free throw and execute on offense, and I feel like that\u2019s kind of what we did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You can see the extracurricular hit below:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-media-max-width=\"560\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Look how hyped Angel Reese is on the bench after Caitlin Clark takes a cheap shot \ud83d\ude2d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GyeG1Q6OhZ\">pic.twitter.com\/GyeG1Q6OhZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Emo Jimmy (@WheelerJaylen) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WheelerJaylen\/status\/1796956651255193727?\">June 1, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The hit swiftly went viral, with basketball fans and even non-basketball fans on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-this-average-american-is-voting-for-donald-trump\/\" title=\"Why This Average American Is Voting for Donald Trump\">social media<\/a> having a take on it.<\/p>\n<p>Some felt that Clark, who is somewhat known for being a bit of a trash-talker on the court, had that hit coming.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you support Caitlin Clark?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Many others, however, felt that Carter was wildly out of line with the cheap shot \u2014 and it appears the WNBA agrees.<\/p>\n<p>According to AP, the WNBA officially upgraded Carter\u2019s foul against Clark to a \u201cflagrant\u201d foul, after it had initially been called a \u201ccommon\u201d foul.<\/p>\n<p>That, in and of itself, isn\u2019t much of a punishment, though. It\u2019s barely a slap on the wrist.<\/p>\n<p>Flagrant fouls will count as a \u201cpoint\u201d against a player\u2019s record. In some cases, the fouls can lead to suspensions or fines, but Carter \u2014 who was been playing in the WNBA on and off since 2020 \u2014 avoided both.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/5535002\/2024\/06\/02\/caitlin-clark-chennedy-carter-angel-reese-foul-wnba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Athletic<\/a>, there is a complicated flow chart of what an upgraded foul <em>could <\/em>lead to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A player at 3 points who commits a Flagrant 2 foul receives an automatic one-game suspension<\/li>\n<li>A player at 4 or 5 points who commits a Flagrant 1 foul receives an automatic one-game suspension<\/li>\n<li>A player at 4 or 5 points who commits a Flagrant 2 foul receives an automatic two-game suspension<\/li>\n<li>A player at 6 or more points who commits a Flagrant 1 or 2 foul receives an automatic two-game suspension<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is Carter\u2019s first infraction of the season, according to The Athletic, so she largely avoided any real or tangible punishment.<\/p>\n<p>The same cannot be said about Carter\u2019s teammate or team.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate decision, the WNBA levied a $1,000 fine against Chicago Sky rookie \u2014 and noted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/millions-watched-caitlin-clark-angel-reese-beating-average-viewers-nba-playoff-games-last-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clark rival<\/a> \u2014 Angel Reese, for failing to speak to media following the game.<\/p>\n<p>Reese caught some flak on social media for both celebrating Carter\u2019s cheap shot in the moment, before giving her a huge embrace of approval a few moments later:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-media-max-width=\"560\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Angel Reese is classless.
