Is it pettiness? Or is it just a good old-fashioned sports rivalry?<\/p>\n<p>After one of the most decorated collegiate women\u2019s basketball careers imaginable, many wondered how then-University of Iowa standout Caitlin Clark would translate at the pro level in the WNBA.<\/p>\n<p>Now a member of the Indiana Fever, Clark\u2019s transition has been, to put it bluntly, a rocky one.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of what Clark can control, she desperately needs to cut down on her turnovers. As of this writing, Clark is averaging a league-leading 5.6 turnovers per game. No other player in the WNBA is averaging more than four turnovers.<\/p>\n<p>Clark is also averaging 16.9 points per game while shooting a paltry 37.6 percent from the field, which is not great. You typically want your star players shooting closer to the mid-40 percent range.<\/p>\n<p>(Fun fact: The WNBA\u2019s leading scorer is actually shooting worse from the field than Clark. Dallas Wings standout guard Arike Ogunbowale is averaging 27.5 points per game on 36.3 percent shooting.)<\/p>\n<p>Again, Clark can control those aspects of her game.<\/p>\n<p>What Clark can\u2019t control, however, is the apparent disdain and disgust that a number of her peers seem to harbor for her. Many have surmised that the negative backlash to Clark stems from jealousy over her overwhelming popularity and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cbs-smears-ron-desantis-while-pete-buttigieg-gets-the-obama-treatment-from-ap\/\" title=\"CBS Smears Ron DeSantis While Pete Buttigieg Gets the Obama Treatment from AP\">star power<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The latest example of this came Saturday, when Clark\u2019s Fever hosted the Chicago Sky \u2014 a team that employs Clark\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/millions-watched-caitlin-clark-angel-reese-beating-average-viewers-nba-playoff-games-last-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">old collegiate nemesis<\/a>, former LSU star Angel Reese.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you like Caitlin Clark?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Late in the third quarter of the game, Clark appeared to have some words for Sky guard Chennedy Carter after the Fever scored.<\/p>\n<p>In seeming retaliation for that otherwise innocuous bit of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/not-with-a-bang-but-with-a-whimper-is-this-the-end-for-conor-mcgregor\/\" title=\"Not With A Bang, But With A Whimper: Is This The End For Conor McGregor?\">trash-talking<\/a>, Carter could be seen visibly calling Clark \u201ca b****\u201d before she dipped her shoulder slightly and violently hip-checked the Fever guard.<\/p>\n<p>The clip of the incident went viral for obvious reasons:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-media-max-width=\"560\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Look how hyped Angel Reese is on the bench after Caitlin Clark takes a cheap shot \ud83d\ude2d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GyeG1Q6OhZ\">pic.twitter.com\/GyeG1Q6OhZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Emo Jimmy (@WheelerJaylen) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WheelerJaylen\/status\/1796956651255193727?\">June 1, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Almost simultaneously, another clip adding a bit more context (Clark trash-talking Carter) also surfaced:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-media-max-width=\"560\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Caitlin had some smoke for Chennedy the possession before<\/p>\n<p>Chennedy responded \ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uK0ELP7xVt\">pic.twitter.com\/uK0ELP7xVt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Future Of The Retro (@TraeK_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TraeK_\/status\/1796957149903355978?\">June 1, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Many fans on social media also took swift notice of the way <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/lsus-angel-reese-complains-sexualized-march-madness-loss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reese<\/a> responded to the cheap shot from Carter. In short: Reese wholeheartedly approved of the way her former college rival was being ragdolled.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did Reese immediately stand and clap for the Carter shot, moments later, Reese gave Carter a huge embrace of approval:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-media-max-width=\"560\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Angel Reese is classless. Her reaction to her teammate shoulder checking Caitlin Clark to the ground\u2026 \u2018me and and Caitlin Clark do not hate each other\u2019<br \/> Yeah right. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wHAneeBUus\">pic.twitter.com\/wHAneeBUus<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 sj.\ud83d\udc8e (@shawnamj_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/shawnamj_\/status\/1796958193974919318?\">June 1, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Oh, and Reese made sure to get one more lick in on Clark in the fourth quarter, as well, in a move that one X user called \u201cstraight dirty\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Angel Reese really hate Caitlin Clark\u2026 straight dirty <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/X4c2CHwGOE\">pic.twitter.com\/X4c2CHwGOE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 LeLakers 2\ufe0f\u20e33\ufe0f\u20e3\ud83d\udc51 (@LeLaker) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeLaker\/status\/1796963302033305948?\">June 1, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Clark, for her part, complained to the referees about the extracurricular physicality, but didn\u2019t retaliate with any cheap shots of her own (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/caitlin-clark-may-face-suspension-entering-dangerous-territory-wnba-feel-like-getting-hammered\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">probably for the best<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Clark <a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/fever-defeat-sky-7170-in-first-wnba-meeting-between-caitlin-clark-and-angel-reese-180634075.html?guccounter=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">helped the Fever<\/a> beat the Sky with 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists (and five turnovers \u2014 which is an improvement!), snapping a three<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/college-football-what-to-watch-in-week-four\/\" title=\"COLLEGE FOOTBALL: What To Watch In Week Four\">-game losing streak<\/a> in the process.<\/p>\n<p>For Clark, it\u2019s not just about getting back against the cheap shots.
