It\u2019s only energized his base and undecided voters don\u2019t seem to be moved by this, the same way they weren\u2019t moved by any of the indictments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut how about this: We emphasize that the former president of these United States <em>might not be able to vote for himself!<\/em> Boy, that\u2019ll show <em>everyone<\/em> just how serious this was!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, that seems like a pretty minor thing \u2014 but if you checked out the headlines on any normally Trump-antagonistic outlet, you got headlines like these:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-felony-conviction-can-he-vote-b95e7b4c9158d999e8bc89b00fbda911\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fact-check-trump-vote-himself-2024-election-736456247651\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">twice<\/a>: \u201cCan Donald Trump still vote in the 2024 election?\u201d and \u201cQuestions swirl around whether Trump can vote for himself in the 2024 election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The U.K.\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/article\/2024\/may\/31\/donald-trump-convicted-felon-vote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guardian<\/a>: \u201cWill Trump, a felon, be able to vote for himself in November?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/05\/30\/donald-trump-vote-2024-election-00160430\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a>: \u201cThere\u2019s a real possibility Trump can\u2019t vote in November.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, kinda, and we\u2019ll get to that in a moment. The AP was arguably the fairest on this, although it still made for entertaining clickbait \u2014 the kind of stuff that the establishment media used after the verdict didn\u2019t produce the widespread immediate repudiation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/rfk-jr-sends-democrats-warning-trump-verdict-conviction-going-backfire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">of Trump<\/a> that they had hoped for. \u201cSee?\u201d they seemed to be saying. \u201cThis is historic! Don\u2019t you want to <em>listen?<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Actually, however, all they had to do was listen to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. The former Trump primary opponent is also the governor of the state where Trump is registered to vote \u2014 and while it can prohibit felons from voting, it\u2019s clear that, as long as DeSantis is governor, that isn\u2019t going to happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFormer President Donald Trump hasn\u2019t lost his voting rights in Florida. Rights are not removed in Florida where they haven\u2019t yet been stripped in the convicting jurisdiction,\u201d DeSantis said Friday on social media.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Are you voting for Trump?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThat said, given the absurd nature of the New York prosecution of Trump, this would be an easy case to qualify for restoration of rights per the Florida Clemency Board, which I chair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bottom line is that Donald Trump\u2019s vote this November will be one of millions that demonstrate Florida is now a solid Republican state!\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Former President Donald Trump hasn\u2019t lost his voting rights in Florida. Well, this was a bit of a downer. Politico, which previously threw a log on the clickbait fire with that \u201creal possibility that Trump can\u2019t vote in November\u201d bit, now put out a <a href=\"https:\/\/wompwompwomp.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sad-trombone<\/a> piece intimating that the Sunshine State is somehow normally hard on felons who want to have their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/video-blm-activist-sentenced-to-six-years-in-prison-for-illegally-registering-to-vote\/\" title=\"VIDEO: BLM Activist Sentenced to Six Years in Prison for Illegally Registering to Vote\">voting rights restored<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump was convicted in New York but lives in Florida, one of the Republican-led states that has made it harder for people convicted of serious crimes to vote,\u201d Kierra Frazier\u2019s Friday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/05\/31\/desantis-says-trump-can-still-vote-in-florida-despite-felony-conviction-00161128#:~:text=DeSantis%2C%20in%20his%20social%20media,Republican%20state%2C%E2%80%9D%20he%20said.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a> piece noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFlorida voters approved a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/amid-recall-threat-ca-gov-newsom-unveils-largest-state-tax-rebate-in-american-history\/\" title=\"Amid Recall Threat, CA Gov. Newsom Unveils \u2018Largest State Tax Rebate In American History\u2019\">state constitutional amendment<\/a> to restore voting rights to felons in 2018 but the Republican-controlled Legislature undercut the measure with a complex set of requirements that convicted felons first pay all fines, fees and court costs. New York has allowed people with felony convictions to vote upon release from incarceration since 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It had been only a little over 24 hours prior that the reliably liberal Politico had been exulting in the fact that Trump might lose his voting rights, noting that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nfl-hall-famer-throws-support-behind-trump-viral-photo-doesnt-matter-many-fake-charges-find-guilty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the former president<\/a> was \u201crunning up against a ticking clock. It may be weeks before the judge sentences him, and Trump\u2019s all but certain appeal could add further delay, jeopardizing his ability to complete any sentence before the polls open in November.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFlorida, like most states, restricts the ability of people with felony convictions to vote. But the state restores the right to vote for most convicted felons after they complete all aspects of their sentence,\u201d that piece read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a Florida resident is convicted of a felony in another state, and the crime is recognized by Florida, the same rules apply, according to Alex Saiz, legal director of the Florida Justice Center.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What a difference a day makes \u2014 quite literally.<\/p>\n<p>Now, of course, none of this makes a difference in a purely practical sense; Florida has been a reliably Republican state and a Trump stronghold for some time now, and one vote on that pile isn\u2019t going to make a whole lot of difference.<\/p>\n<p>But there was the hope that, on Election Day, there could be a symbolic significance. You can almost hear the MSNBC correspondent stationed at Mar-a-Lago for remote segments on Nov. 5 warming up his vocal cords now, if you listen hard enough: \u201cNow, Trump can\u2019t vote in Florida because he\u2019s A FELON I REPEAT A FELON <strong>A VERY DASTARDLY FELON<\/strong> <em><strong>PLEASE LISTEN TO ME<\/strong><\/em>, and Florida doesn\u2019t allow <strong>FELONS DID I <em>MENTION A FELONY<\/em><\/strong><em> <strong>WAS INVOLVED<\/strong><\/em>? \u2014 <em>ahem<\/em> \u2014 to vote. Back to you in the studio, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-joy-reid-says-poetic-people-prosecuting-trump-black-deis-bringing-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joy<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, just as the kangaroo court in Manhattan apparently hasn\u2019t delivered the surge of support for President Joe Biden that the media had hoped for, it also didn\u2019t provide them with <em>that<\/em> small victory.
