Mike Lee, threaten \u2062to obstruct Biden&#8217;s agenda in response to \u200bTrump&#8217;s conviction.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Republicans are preparing to hit back after former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3023260\/gop-lawmakers-decry-trump-guilty-verdict\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>convicted of criminal charges<\/a> this week, ramping up their investigations into President Joe Biden and Democrats ahead of the November election. <\/p>\n<p>House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) was among the first to decry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3024161\/never-trumpers-now-support-former-president-following-conviction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Trump\u2019s guilty verdict<\/a>, announcing on Friday he would be asking Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and prosecutor Matthew Colangelo to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3024142\/house-republicans-bragg-colangelo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>appear before Congress<\/a> in June for a public hearing to discuss the case. Jordan has been investigating the two attorneys over the last several months over allegations the pair had revived the criminal case against Trump to harm his presidential campaign. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis hearing will examine actions by state and local prosecutors to engage politically motivated prosecutions of federal officials, in particular the recent political prosecution of President Donald Trump by the Manhattan District Attorney\u2019s Office,\u201d Jordan wrote in letters to Bragg and Colangelo on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also possible the House Oversight Committee could ramp up its impeachment inquiry into Biden, making it all the more likely the president will face some sort of criminal referral by House investigators. A spokesperson for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mccarthy-on-democrats-stripping-greene-of-committees-you-may-regret-this-a-lot-sooner-than-you-think\/\" title=\"McCarthy On Democrats Stripping Greene Of Committees: \u2018You May Regret This A Lot Sooner Than You Think\u2019\">committee told<\/a> the <em>Washington Examiner <\/em>there was no update at this time on how lawmakers will proceed. <\/p>\n<p>Outside of Capitol Hill, Republican attorneys general across the country are vowing to defend Trump. <\/p>\n<p>Attorney General Ken Paxton of Texas was quick to come out against Trump\u2019s verdict, vowing to \u201cunleash every tool at my disposal to fight this blatant corruption and political persecution spewing from New York and the Biden administration.\u201d It\u2019s not entirely clear what that effort will look like, but it\u2019s not the first time Paxton has come to Trump\u2019s defense. <\/p>\n<p>The Texas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-ag-barr-authorizes-federal-prosecutors-to-pursue-substantial-allegations-of-voting-irregularities-before-2020-election-is-certified\/\" title=\"BREAKING: AG Barr Authorizes Federal Prosecutors to Pursue \"Substantial Allegations\" of Voting Irregularities Before 2020 Election is Certified\">attorney general<\/a> previously led efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the Lone Star State, which was ultimately unsuccessful and landed him in trouble with a disciplinary committee of the State Bar of Texas. <\/p>\n<p>Other Republicans, especially those who are rumored to be contenders for positions in a possible Trump administration, have also vowed to challenge the conviction. <\/p>\n<p>Mike Davis, a potential pick for attorney general, even went so far as to tell <em>Axios <\/em>that GOP prosecutors in Georgia and Florida should <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/whistleblower-fbi-targeted-innocent-rally-goers-just-for-being-in-d-c-on-jan-6\/\" title=\"Whistleblower: FBI Targeted Innocent Rally-Goers Just For Being In D.C. Mike Lee (R-UT) threatening to halt action in the upper chamber in response to Trump\u2019s conviction. <\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued on Friday, Lee and a group of seven other Republican senators vowed not to advance any \u201cnon-security related funding\u201d for the remainder of the Biden administration or any confirmations for judicial or political appointees. The group also vowed not to allow for the expeditious passage of any Democratic-led legislation or priorities. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrongly worded statements are not enough,\u201d Lee posted on X. \u201cThose who turned our judicial system into a political cudgel must be held accountable. We are no longer cooperating with any Democrat legislative priorities or nominations, and we invite all concerned Senators to join our stand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That letter was signed by senators such as Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and J.D. Vance (R-OH), who are both considered to be contenders for Trump\u2019s running mate. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Republicans are seeking to leverage the conviction in their favor. The National Republican Senatorial Committee was quick to blast out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-vow-lawfare-revenge-after-trumps-guilty-verdict\/\" title=\"Republicans promise legal retaliation following Trump's guilty verdict\">fundraising emails attacking vulnerable incumbents<\/a> such as Sens. Jon Tester (D-MT) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) for not condemning the verdict. <\/p>\n<p>The GOP campaign arms began reporting record fundraising hauls just one day after the verdict against Trump came down. The Trump campaign sent out a statement saying it \u201cshattered\u201d fundraising records by bringing in $34.8 million \u2014 almost twice as much as any single day in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Whether the verdict will shift Trump into a more favorable position to win back the presidency remains to be seen.
