His talent and\u200b passion for singing captivated the judges and audience, propelling him directly to \u200cthe live \u200dshows. His remarkable talent and enthusiasm for singing not only impressed\u2063 the judges and audience but also propelled\u200b him straight to the\u2064 live shows.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/lifestyle\/\">  Lifestyle &#038; Human Interest <\/a>    <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/johnathanjones\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/johnathanjones\/%20\"><span>Johnathan Jones<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 31, 2024 at 1:52pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Steve Perry didn\u2019t reunite with Journey for this week\u2019s episode of \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent,\u201d but an unassuming middle-school janitor named Richard Goodall did a phenomenal job of filling in for him.<\/p>\n<p>Goodall stunned the audience and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/americas-got-talent-finalist-dead-44\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the show\u2019s<\/a> judges and even earned a rare \u201cgolden buzzer\u201d from model and judge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-heidi-klum-gets-engaged-to-musician-tom-kaulitz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heidi Klum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 55-year-old custodian from Terre Haute,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/former-indiana-beauty-queen-arrested-mexican-drug-cartel-bust\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Indiana<\/a>, joined the NBC show for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc.com\/nbc-insider\/richard-goodall-dont-stop-believin-golden-buzzer-agt-2024-audition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its 19th-season premiere<\/a> and crushed a rendition of Journey\u2019s smash 1981 hit \u201cDon\u2019t Stop Believin.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<p>When introducing himself to the show in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-interview-racks-up-5-million-views-in-24-hours-youtube-deletes-it-as-he-predicted\/\" title=\"Trump Interview Racks Up 5 Million Views In 24 Hours. YouTube Deletes It \u2013 As He Predicted.\">pre-taped interview<\/a>, Goodall explained that he spent his time belting out songs while keeping a school in the Midwest clean for students, staff and administrators.<\/p>\n<p>The shy man, who said he was waiting to call his fiancee after his performance, told show host Terry Crews in an interview that he lived a simple life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not a fancy person. I take out the trash, I wipe off the tables, I sweep the floors. I\u2019m just having fun, and I\u2019m trying to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/chrissy-teigen-quits-twitter-never-forget-that-your-words-matter\/\" title=\"Chrissy Teigen Quits Twitter: \u2018Never Forget That Your Words Matter\u2019\">make people happy<\/a>,\u201d Goodall said.<\/p>\n<p>He said he loved to entertain people, especially kids who attend the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/high-schooler-gets-denied-diploma-boldly-proclaiming-gospel-commencement-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">school<\/a> that employs him.<\/p>\n<p>Once he took the stage, the tension was palpable. Goodall humbly told judge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/x-factor-creator-simon-cowell-bow-anti-israel-left\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Simon Cowell<\/a> he was glad to be there and that his dream was to become a singer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love to sing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Are you rooting for Goodall to win \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent\u201d?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After Goodall said that very few people knew he had traveled to the Los Angeles area to audition for the show, the iconic piano intro for what is perhaps Journey\u2019s most recognizable hit began to play while a \u201cnervous\u201d Goodall waited to deliver the opening line.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cffU0jSYJd8?si=vv3RfVOszVWqmTJR\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>His voice sounded as though it was borrowed from Perry.<\/p>\n<p>Goodall\u2019s opening line \u2014 \u201cJust a small-town girl\u201d \u2014 earned immediate applause and elicited shocked looks from judges.<\/p>\n<p>After nailing the song, Goodall stood on stage and waited for feedback from judges Cowell, Klum, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-ufcs-dana-white-tired-podcasts-walks-not-even-30-seconds-comments-howie-mandel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Howie Mandel<\/a> and Sofia Vergara.<\/p>\n<p>The show\u2019s live, studio audience also chanted his name and gave him a standing ovation.<\/p>\n<p>After Cowell explained that Goodall\u2019s performance was \u201cgenuinely special\u201d and designated him a \u201chero,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/judge-sofia-vergara-tears-agt-recalling-brothers-murder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vergara<\/a> also praised him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was an amazing surprise,\u201d the former \u201cModern Family\u201d star said.<\/p>\n<p>Mandel then opined that the humble janitor from Indiana had \u201ccleaned up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Klum put an exclamation point on the moment when she said Goodall moved her, or as she put it, \u201cYou knocked me off my feet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, this is what I\u2019m going to do for you because I love you,\u201d she said as she smashed her golden buzzer \u2013 signifying an amazing performance that elevated Goodall directly from auditions to the live shows.<\/p>\n<p>As she embraced him on stage, Klum told Goodall, \u201cI can\u2019t wait to see what you\u2019re gonna sing next.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Goodall explained that performing for the show\u2019s audience and judges was not only a dream come true but that to achieve it, he had to board an airplane for the first time to get to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/california-cop-quits-inappropriate-interaction-female-detainee-gets-exposed-single\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>______________________________________________<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><i data-stringify-type=\"italic\">An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i data-stringify-type=\"italic\">In just a few months, the world is going to change forever.
