The former ambassador&#8217;s current silence contrasts with her past warnings about\u200b Trump&#8217;s chaos.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nikki-haley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nikki Haley<\/a>, who campaigned on ending the \u201cchaos\u201d that follows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a>, found herself in a strange position as the former president\u2019s legal troubles exploded on Thursday: a silent supporter.<\/p>\n<p>Haley offered her long-sought backing of Trump just eight days before a 12-member <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>New York<\/a> jury found him guilty of 34 criminal counts of falsifying business records that could potentially carry up to four years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>While other Trump 2024 rivals and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-open-to-ramaswamy-as-vice-president-i-think-hes-great\/\" title=\"Trump approves of Ramaswamy as Vice President: 'He's fantastic.'\">vice presidential contenders<\/a> have rushed to back the former president, Haley has yet to say a word as of Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3018093\/trump-guilty-in-manhattan-hush-money-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>TRUMP GUILTY IN MANHATTAN HUSH MONEY CASE <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since she dropped out of the race for the presidential nomination, she has continued to be a thorn in Trump\u2019s side, amassing 97 delegates compared to Trump\u2019s 2,219 delegates, according to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/ap-election-2024-delegate-tracker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Associated Press<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Now some of her most ardent supporters suggest this is the moment for Haley to restart her campaign as a credible alternative to a convicted felon as the GOP nominee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would love it if he [Trump] would step aside,\u201d said Alissa Baker, who served on the Women for Haley committee. \u201cMy hope is \u2026 he would say, \u2018I\u2019m going to step aside for the good of the country.\u2019 And that she would unsuspend her campaign and run again because I do think that she has the right solutions for us. I think that she was the best candidate in the field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The X account of the former ambassador to the United Nations has, instead, kept quiet and reposted tidbits focused on her trip to Israel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter eight months, 125 hostages are still being held in Gaza, 8 of them are American. (AP Photo\/Cliff Owen)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Presently, Haley has not revealed whether she would relaunch her campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know Nikki Haley is a loyal Republican that decided to vote her conscience,\u201d said Robert Schwartz, the executive director of the Haley Voters Working Group. \u201cI don\u2019t know how Trump\u2019s conviction impacts her personal thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schwartz remains skeptical that Haley could announce a surprise relaunch of her presidential campaign now that Trump is a convicted felon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the reaction among Republicans, and some of them are rallying around Trump, I think it\u2019s extremely unlikely that there would be any kind of change in the Republican approach to this election. They\u2019ve chosen to make their bed with Trump,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, more than two months after dropping out of the 2024 race, the former ambassador pulls in double digits in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/florida-legislature-begins-clearing-desantiss-path-to-candidacy\/\" title=\"Florida Legislature Begins Clearing DeSantis\u2019s Path to Candidacy\">state presidential primaries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Those voters could hamper Trump\u2019s campaign in November if they refuse to support him in November by voting for a third-party candidate, staying home, or holding their nose to vote for Biden.<\/p>\n<p>For the most part, though, Republicans have condemned the Trump verdict as election interference, and the few who have called for caution have been met with anger.<\/p>\n<p>Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan was warned that his senatorial bid was over by Trump campaign senior adviser Chris LaCivita when he asked the public to respect the verdict. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou just ended your campaign,\u201d\u00a0LaCivita <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3023533\/trump-guilty-trump-team-declares-larry-hogan-politically-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said on social media<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Other Republicans who are jockeying for the role as Trump\u2019s running mate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3023263\/trump-guilty-desantis-gop-rivals-reject-verdict\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>rushed to defend<\/a> him against the verdict. \u201cThis verdict is a travesty of justice,\u201d said Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), the wealthy North Dakota chief executive.<\/p>\n<p>The former president did not appear to give any likelihood he would step away from the nomination during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3024042\/trump-vows-defeat-guilty-verdict-biden-tower\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>free-wheeling speech<\/a> he held at Trump Tower on Friday morning. Instead, he slammed the trial as \u201crigged\u201d and Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over the case, as a \u201ctyrant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One Republican, billionaire Gristedes CEO John Catsimatidis, suggested Haley could be better off as Trump\u2019s vice presidential pick. <\/p>\n<p>Trump \u201casked everybody their opinion of who should be vice president \u2026 a lot of people picked Nikki Haley,\u201d Catsimatidis <a href=\"https:\/\/wabcradio.com\/episode\/john-catsimatidis-on-his-dinner-with-president-trump-after-the-verdict\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> 77 WABC Radio host Rita Cosby after he attended a Trump fundraiser following the guilty verdict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people said, \u2018I hate Nikki Haley, but John Kennedy hated Lyndon Baines Johnson, and he got elected because he picked Lyndon Baines Johnson.\u2019 A lot of people said to Trump, \u2018We don\u2019t like Nikki Haley, but she might make the difference,\u2019\u201d Catsimatidis said.<\/p>\n<p>The former president previously said that Haley was not under consideration to join his campaign, but after she said she would vote for him, he appeared to change his thinking.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I think she\u2019s going to be on our team because we have a lot of the same ideas, the same thoughts,\u201d Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3016408\/trump-confident-haley-be-in-administration-if-elected\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said last week<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m sure she\u2019s going to be on our team in some form, absolutely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s campaign has repeatedly signaled it would aggressively court Haley voters put off by Trump. Even after Haley said she would vote for Trump, the campaign was huddling with Haley supporters in a meeting Schwartz helped to organize.<\/p>\n<p>But Republican strategist Brian Seitchik cautioned against the Trump campaign relying on wooing back Haley supporters after the guilty verdict. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose Haley voters never really felt like Trump voters anyway,\u201d Seitchik said. \u201cCertainly a percentage of them were going to come home at the end of the day, but a lot of them seemed like they were going to vote third party or just not vote.
