The voting \u2063eligibility situation remains complex,\u2064 particularly\u200d given his New York\u200c conviction.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a> could find himself facing more restrictions on his life than he has ever had to handle.<\/p>\n<p>The historic conviction of 34 felony counts on Thursday was met with reactions varying from despair from some in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Republican<\/a> Party to glee from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Democrats<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trump reacted angrily, declaring, \u201cThe real verdict is going to be Nov. 5.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He could have reason to be angry. Trump\u2019s conviction labels him as a felon unless he can get the ruling overturned in the appeals process.<\/p>\n<p>That enables Florida to ban Trump from doing a variety of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flmp.uscourts.gov\/felony-offenders#:~:text=Florida%20law%20deprives%20convicted%20felons,as%20real%20estate%20and%20insurance.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>activities<\/a> that citizens who aren\u2019t felons could take for granted. Here are the ones we know.<\/p>\n<h2>Right to vote<\/h2>\n<p>Trump may or may not be allowed to vote for himself this November, as Florida law \u201cdeprives convicted felons of certain civil rights,\u201d including the right to vote. It is common practice for political candidates to be seen at polling stations voting for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Trump may apply to restore his right to vote after the \u201cfinal expiration of an offender\u2019s supervision.\u201d The Florida Parole Commission would review his application.<\/p>\n<p>A 2018 ballot amendment allows felons to vote once they finish their sentences, though Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and other Florida Republicans added a stipulation that they must also pay their fines related to crimes.<\/p>\n<p>One complicating factor for Trump is that he was convicted of his crimes in New York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-president-trump-gives-pardons-to-73-individuals-and-commutes-another-70-sentences-steve-bannon-is-included\/\" title=\"BREAKING: President Trump Gives Pardons to 73 Individuals and Commutes Another 70 Sentences \u2013 Steve Bannon Is Included\">felony conviction<\/a> in another state makes a person ineligible to vote in Florida only if the conviction would make the person ineligible to vote in the state where the person was convicted,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/dos.fl.gov\/elections\/for-voters\/voter-registration\/constitutional-amendment-4felon-voting-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>according to<\/a> the Florida Division of Elections.<\/p>\n<p>In New York, felons are only banned from voting while they are incarcerated, and Trump is unlikely to be, possibly allowing him to vote in Florida still.<\/p>\n<p>However, Ben Stechschulte told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> the question of whether Trump will be allowed to vote might not be as cut and dry as the Florida Division of Elections suggests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t vote in Florida unless you\u2019ve received a pardon or you\u2019ve gotten some form of restoration of your rights, generally speaking,\u201d Stechschulte said. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t change if your felony conviction is in another state.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Right to own a firearm<\/h2>\n<p>Generally, felons cannot own a firearm in Florida. It isn\u2019t known if Trump owns a gun, but he once expressed interest in buying <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-south-carolina-2024-election-9d5fe152c0b5c7767aee56bbdca07d4f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>one<\/a> at a campaign stop in South Carolina. Stechschulte confirmed this fact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce you\u2019re a convicted felon, at least for purposes of a resident of the state of Florida, you cannot vote, and you cannot own a firearm,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2>Interstate and international travel<\/h2>\n<p>Some felons in Florida are not allowed to leave their district without permission from their probation officer, a restriction that could complicate Trump\u2019s ability to campaign and govern.<\/p>\n<p>In the Middle District of Florida, felons are required to get written permission from their probation officer, and any travel outside the United States needs to be requested a month before they plan to leave.<\/p>\n<h2>Can he still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/leonardo-dicaprio-joins-hollywood-elites-to-deliver-lesson-on-looming-climate-armageddon\/\" title=\"Leonardo DiCaprio Joins Hollywood Elites to Deliver Lesson on Looming Climate 'Armageddon'\">hold public office<\/a>?<\/h2>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s felony conviction does not affect Trump\u2019s ability to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trumps-legal-team-says-impeachment-trial-unconstitutional-calls-for-acquittal\/\" title=\"President Trump\u2019s legal team says impeachment trial unconstitutional, calls for acquittal\">hold office<\/a>. If Trump were convicted in a federal court \u2014 his hush money case was held in the New York Supreme Court, a state court \u2014 he wouldn\u2019t be able to hold public office.<\/p>\n<p>He has two federal cases pending in Georgia and Florida, but those aren\u2019t expected to be decided before the election. However, if they are decided after the election, he might have to step down if convicted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Constitution does not stipulate that a federal felony prohibits a candidate from running for president, so that could make a solid argument for Trump\u2019s legal team if that scenario occurred. <\/p>\n<p>Trump already said he is going to appeal the jury\u2019s decision.
