Experts Weigh In\">falsifying business records<\/a> over 2016 payments to an attorney marked as \u201clegal expenses.\u201d Trump faces four years behind bars for each count with sentencing scheduled on July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n<p>Bragg <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/11\/03\/operation-deplorable-a-whos-who-of-the-get-trump-crusade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ran<\/a> for the top New York County prosecutor\u2019s office on a platform to prosecute Trump in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBragg often reminded voters on the campaign trail that he helped sue the Trump administration \u2018more than a hundred times\u2019 as a deputy in the New York state attorney general\u2019s office,\u201d Reuters reported the year Bragg was elected. <\/p>\n<p>The Manhattan DA was the first to unveil an unprecedented indictment of a former president last year when the prosecutor handed down 34 counts related to payments to keep pornographer Stormy Daniels quiet about an alleged affair amid the 2016 presidential race. The case pursued by Bragg was previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/31\/guilty-trump-verdict-will-keep-good-people-from-running-for-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declined<\/a> by the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Southern District of New York\u2019s U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office, and prosecutors who worked under Bragg\u2019s predecessor.<\/p>\n<p>Colangelo was previously the no. 3 official in the Justice Department, and he joined Bragg\u2019s team at the local prosecutor\u2019s office in December 2022 as the Manhattan attorneys prepared to indict Trump. Colangelo had also worked at the New York State Attorney General\u2019s Office, which sought to bankrupt the former president in another politicized <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/26\/trumps-reduced-bond-doesnt-make-letitia-james-election-meddling-lawfare-any-less-scandalous\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">investigation<\/a>. House Republicans on the Judiciary Committee wrote a <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/chairman-jordan-demands-documents-about-bragg-prosecutor-matthew-colangelo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> to New York Democrat Attorney General Letitia James two weeks ago demanding records related to Colangelo\u2019s time there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Colangelo\u2019s recent employment history demonstrates his obsession with investigating a person rather than prosecuting a crime,\u201d wrote Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio. <\/p>\n<p>President Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-bloomberg-presidential-campaign-staffers-hit-with-tax-bills-on-income-higher-than-their-salaries\/\" title=\"Former Bloomberg Presidential Campaign Staffers Hit With Tax Bills On Income Higher Than Their Salaries\">campaign reported<\/a> an overwhelming <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/31\/ex-democrats-independents-and-newbie-donors-throw-cash-at-trump-after-manhattan-show-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">surge<\/a> in small-dollar donations immediately following the New York conviction. The <a href=\"https:\/\/winred.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WinRed <\/a>fundraising platform\u00a0even crashed over the spike in traffic as Americans flooded the website contributions. The Trump campaign reported more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/trump-raises-35-million-after-guilty-verdict-as-donors-crash-website-a1ee70da\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$35 million<\/a> raised upon the guilty verdict. <\/p>\n<p>Trump, meanwhile, faces three more criminal trials ahead of the November election as Democrats seek to thwart their top political challenger with an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/heres-what-the-house-gop-should-do-right-now-to-fight-democrats-republic-crushing-lawfare\/\" title=\"House GOP must act now to combat Democrats' destructive lawfare.\">unprecedented lawfare campaign<\/a>. The trio of cases are facing delays, however, rendering it uncertain whether the president will stand trial in any of them before Election Day. <\/p>\n<p>In Florida, the federal judge overseeing the classified documents <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/08\/judge-halts-trumps-classified-docs-trial-after-doj-admits-to-evidence-tampering\/\">paused<\/a> litigation after prosecutors admitted to tampering with evidence.
