Recently, \u200bas a convicted felon, he staged a\u200c passionate 40-minute press conference\u2062 at the same location in Manhattan, criticizing various figures and proclaiming innocence despite the guilty verdict. The sentencing is set for \u200dJuly\u2064 11, raising questions about his future.\u2064 Donald Trump launched his presidential campaign nine years \u2062ago at Trump Tower on a\u200c golden escalator. Recently, as a convicted\u2064 felon,\u200d he held a fiery 40-minute press conference \u200dat the same Manhattan \u200clocation, criticizing several individuals and asserting\u200d innocence\u2063 despite \u2062the guilty verdict. With \u200bsentencing scheduled for July 11, uncertainties \u2062loom over his future.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>NEW YORK \u2014<\/strong> Nine years ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a> famously descended the golden escalator at Trump Tower to launch his upstart presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to today, and the former president, now a convicted felon, strode past that same elevator in Manhattan to launch into a free-wheeling 40-minute press conference in which he blasted Judge Juan Merchan, Manhattan District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/alvin-bragg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alvin Bragg<\/a>, former fixer Michael Cohen, President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a>, and the general state of the United States of America.<\/p>\n<p>During the rambling speech, Trump repeatedly referenced a <em>Daily Mail<\/em> poll, went on a tour of past grievances, including mentioning the impeachment cases against him, along with the House Committee investigation of the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, and maintained no admission that he had committed a crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as the trial itself, it was very unfair. We weren\u2019t allowed to use our election expert, under any circumstances,\u201d the former president said. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3018093\/trump-guilty-in-manhattan-hush-money-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>TRUMP GUILTY IN MANHATTAN HUSH MONEY CASE <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump claimed Merchan was a \u201ctyrant\u201d and \u201cdevil.\u201d He also stated his team would appeal the case. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people of our country know it\u2019s a hoax. They know it\u2019s a hoax,\u201d he said. \u201cThey get it. You know, they\u2019re really smart. And it\u2019s something, so we\u2019re going to be appealing this scam. We\u2019re going to be appealing it on many different things. He wouldn\u2019t allow us to have witnesses. He wouldn\u2019t allow us to talk. He wouldn\u2019t allow us to do anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Merchan<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/2977467\/trump-fined-9k-held-in-contempt-for-violating-gag-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> first fined<\/a> Trump $9,000 for violating a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-held-in-contempt-for-violating-gag-order-in-hush-money-trial\/\" title=\"Trump found in contempt for breaking silence order in hush money case\">gag order multiple times<\/a> in late April. Roughly a week later, Merchan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/2992287\/judge-finds-trump-contempt-gag-order-threatens-incarceration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>fined Trump<\/a> an additional $1,000 for violating the gag order again.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Merchan set Trump\u2019s sentencing for July 11, four days before the Republican National Committee convention, although Trump\u2019s team hopes to delay the sentencing. <\/p>\n<p>It is unclear how the RNC convention will proceed once the sentencing process is finished.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Former President Donald Trump speaks during a news conference at Trump Tower, Friday, May 31, 2024, in New York. I paid a lawyer a legal expense. And a bookkeeper without any knowledge from me correctly marked it down in the books, a very professional one highly respected,\u201d he claimed. <\/p>\n<p>Later on, Trump stated he did nothing wrong. \u201cThis was standard stuff, all standard stuff. Everything involved was standard. There was no crime here,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>The former president also bemoaned not testifying in his case, although he had the option but declined to take the witness stand. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, I would have testified. I wanted to testify. The theory is you never testify because as soon as you testify for anybody, if it were George Washington, don\u2019t testify because they\u2019ll get you on something that you said slightly wrong,\u201d Trump said. \u201cAnd then they sue you for perjury, but I didn\u2019t care about that. I wanted to, but the judge allowed them to go into everything that I was ever involved in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jury-finds-peter-navarro-guilty-of-contempt-for-refusing-to-comply-with-jan-6-committee\/\" title=\"Peter Navarro found guilty of contempt for defying Jan. 6 committee.\">guilty verdict marks<\/a> the first time in American history a former president has been convicted of a felony crime. <\/p>\n<p>It could have serious complications on how Trump continues his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/donald-trump-to-headline-rally-in-georgia-with-7-endorsed-primary-candidates\/\" title=\"Donald Trump to Headline Rally in Georgia with 7 Endorsed Primary Candidates\">general election battle<\/a> against Biden if he is sentenced to prison or forced to limit his movement. <\/p>\n<p>Some polling suggests that independent voters may be less willing to support Trump after a guilty verdict. <\/p>\n<p>The Biden campaign quickly released a video of the Trump speech showing Trump continuously addressing a <em>Daily Mail<\/em> poll that showed a Trump 6-point bump after the verdict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA confused and forgetful Trump repeats the exact same thing 15 minutes apart: \u2018The Daily Mail poll\u2026,&#8217;\u201d the campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BidenHQ\/status\/1796567664124649895\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>posted on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Across the street from the Trump Tower building as Trump spoke stood a crowd of hundreds of New Yorkers.\u00a0A large percentage of the crowd were Trump supporters, but some detractors stood around the edges of the block to gloat and celebrate the former\u00a0president\u2019s\u00a0guilty verdict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI heard the news yesterday, and I came out here today to support our president,\u201d <br \/>Paul Doran from Brooklyn told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>On the left, Paul Doran from Brooklyn spoke to the Washington Examiner about his support for Donald Trump. (Photo by Kaelan Deese\/Washington Examiner)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSupport for [Trump] right now has increased in a way that we cannot allow a biased and rigged trial to determine the next president of the United States,\u201d said another Brooklyn resident, Dan, who declined to give his last name.<\/p>\n<p>A loudspeaker played\u00a0Trump\u2019s\u00a0speech across the street from the Trump Tower where the crowd assembled.<\/p>\n<p>A crowd also gathered in Trump Tower to listen to\u00a0Trump\u2019s\u00a0speech.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the media barricade stood some supporters of Trump who waved giant flags, including one that said \u201cTrump or Death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There were noticeably more supporters at the Trump Tower speech than those who stood in the park outside the New York City Criminal Court building following the verdict on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>It was these supporters and those across the nation who helped Trump raise $34.8 million since the verdict was announced. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems like since the time of 2016, people have been out to get him,\u201d said Ronda Lester, a resident from Central Florida who was in New York on vacation.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a nostalgic moment, Donald Trump revisited Trump Tower, where he kickstarted his presidential bid nine years ago.
