The lawsuit was filed by Conrad Reynolds, \u2062the Arkansas Voter Integrity Initiative, Inc.,\u2062 and Restore Election Integrity Arkansas. Attorney \u2064General Tim Griffin&#8217;s rejection of\u200c the ballot questions prompted the legal action. The Arkansas Supreme Court dismissed a case challenging the state&#8217;s review of proposed ballot questions. Attorney \u2062General\u2064 Tim Griffin&#8217;s rejection of the ballot questions prompted the legal\u200d action.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_79\">\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013 The Arkansas Supreme Court dismissed a case challenging how the state reviews proposed ballot questions.<\/p>\n<p>Conrad Reynolds, the Arkansas Voter Integrity Initiative, Inc. and Restore Election Integrity Arkansas filed the lawsuit after Attorney General Tim Griffin did not approve the ballot questions and the secretary of state and board of elections refused to evaluate the measures.<\/p>\n<p>One of the ballot questions would have required the state to use only paper ballots if approved by voters. A second question made proposed changes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wisconsin-republicans-introduce-resolution-to-impeach-top-elections-administrator\/\" title=\"Wisconsin GOP proposes resolution to impeach elections chief.\">absentee ballot procedures<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The plaintiffs asked the court to certify the ballot measures and declare a law requiring the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-ag-barr-authorizes-federal-prosecutors-to-pursue-substantial-allegations-of-voting-irregularities-before-2020-election-is-certified\/\" title=\"BREAKING: AG Barr Authorizes Federal Prosecutors to Pursue \"Substantial Allegations\" of Voting Irregularities Before 2020 Election is Certified\">attorney general<\/a> to review the ballot questions as unconstitutional. The lawsuit also challenged a law that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/more-chaos-hits-the-michigan-gop-primary-race-after-candidate-arrested-by-fbi-heres-whats-happening\/\" title=\"More Chaos Hits The Michigan GOP Primary Race After Candidate Arrested By FBI: Here\u2019s What\u2019s Happening\">ballot petitions<\/a> to have signatures from at least 50 counties.<\/p>\n<p>The court said that while it had the authority under the constitution to approve the ballot measures, it could not until after the Secretary of State acted. Their ruling is based on an amendment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmendment 80 did not remove the requirement that the Secretary of State determine sufficiency \u2018in the first instance,&#8217;\u201d the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/arkansasag.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reynolds_v._Thurston.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ruling said<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cThus, even under Amendment 80, the Secretary of State must make the initial decision before we can exercise original jurisdiction over the sufficiency of a petition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The court said it lacked original jurisdiction on the other counts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis unanimous decision is a tremendous victory for the people of Arkansas and the ability of citizens to cast votes on questions that are not vague or misleading,\u201d Attorney General Tim Griffin said. \u201cFor decades, the Office of Attorney General has had the authority to review ballot title submissions to ensure they have an understandable name and title\u2014as Arkansas law requires.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A representative from the Arkansas Voter Integrity Initiative did not immediately return a message from The Center Square.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Arkansas Supreme Court dismissed a case challenging the state&#8217;s ballot question review process.
