Ron DeSantis, a rival to former President Donald Trump in this year\u2019s Republican presidential primary race, laid into the New York legal system in a lengthy statement on Thursday evening after Trump was convicted on 34 felony charges in Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p>A jury of 12 New Yorkers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trumps-donation-site-crashes-right-crucial-verdict-shows-voters-stand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ruled<\/a> after two days of deliberations that the former president had committed nearly three dozen crimes in Manhattan District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/marine-center-nyc-subway-death-furor-sticks-alvin-bragg-first-legal-move\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alvin Bragg\u2019s<\/a> controversial \u201chush money\u201d trial of the former president.<\/p>\n<p>A sentencing hearing will be held on July 11 \u2014 just four days before the Republican National Convention begins in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/milwaukee-bucks-fire-hc-adrian-griffin-despite-30-13-record-looking-hire-big-name-replacement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milwaukee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis, who had hoped to be nominated at the convention, unleashed on what he described as the \u201ckangaroo court\u201d that secured Trump\u2019s conviction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s verdict represents the culmination of a legal process that has been bent to the political will of the actors involved: a leftist prosecutor, a partisan judge and a jury reflective of one of the most liberal enclaves in America \u2014 all in an effort to \u2018get\u2019 Donald Trump,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/americas-governor-desantis-promotes-new-energy-legislation-will-trigger-every-green-zealot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the governor<\/a> wrote.<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cThat this case \u2013 involving alleged misdemeanor business records violations from nearly a decade ago \u2013 was even brought is a testament to the political debasement of the justice system in places like New York City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is especially true considering this same <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/top-republicans-blast-sham-trial-against-trump-nothing-more-than-political-persecution\/\" title=\"Leading GOP Figures Condemn 'Fake' Trial of Trump as Political Vendetta\">district attorney routinely excuses criminal conduct<\/a> in a way that has <a Murder Following Initial Release\">endangered law-abiding citizens<\/a> in his jurisdiction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jeff-bezos-60m-investment-undercut-ron-desantis-florida-governor-signs-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DeSantis<\/a> further called for equal application of the country\u2019s laws as he skewered New York Democrats for weaponizing the legal system against President Joe Biden\u2019s chief political rival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is often said that no one is above the law, but it is also true that no one is below the law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the defendant were not Donald Trump, this case would never have been brought, the judge would have never issued similar rulings, and the jury would have never returned a guilty verdict,\u201d DeSantis said.<\/p>\n<p>The governor concluded, \u201cIn America, the rule of law should be applied in a dispassionate, even-handed manner, not become captive to the political agenda of some kangaroo court.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Today\u2019s verdict represents disappointing showing in Iowa and just before the New Hampshire primary.<\/p>\n<p>In doing so, DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/mending-fences-trump-says-honored-desantis-endorsement-wants-work-together\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">endorsed<\/a> the former president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has my endorsement because we can\u2019t go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear, a repackaged form or warmed-over corporatism that Nikki Haley represents,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-issues-defiant-response-guilty-verdict-real-verdict-going-nov-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unleashed<\/a> on New York\u2019s legal system after the verdict was read on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe real verdict will be on November 5th by THE PEOPLE\u2014they know what happened here,\u201d he said on his Truth Social platform.<\/p>\n<p>Trump scheduled a news conference for Friday at 11 a.m. ET from Trump Tower in Manhattan.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note
