Now, Nevada\u2019s growing Asian population could contribute to making the state a potential tossup in the 2024 election between President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> and his predecessor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump?source=%2Fdue-process-is-crucial-to-justice-both-for-accusers-and-the-accused\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Between 2012 and 2022, Nevada saw the nation\u2019s biggest increase in its Asian American Pacific Islander population, a voting block Democrats have traditionally counted on. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re one of the only states that had more [Asian American and Pacific Islander] voters vote for the first time in 2022 than in 2018,\u201d Amy Koo, the political director at One APIA Nevada, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktnv.com\/news\/nevadas-aapi-vote-could-be-margin-of-victory-in-2024-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> KTNV. \u201cThat\u2019s an indicator of how much our community has grown and how crucial we are to the margin of victory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, while the Pew Research Center found that an overwhelming majority of Asian voters, 70%, supported Biden in 2020, increasing numbers of Asian voters are moving away from the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty percent of Asian Americans nationally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2023\/07\/12\/voting-patterns-in-the-2022-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>voted<\/a> Republican in 2020, up from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2017\/04\/18\/524371847\/trump-lost-more-of-the-asian-american-vote-than-the-national-exit-polls-showed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>18% in 2016<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The Republican trajectory seems to be mirrored in the Silver State. <\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/asian-america\/clinton-won-asian-american-vote-some-swing-states-turned-toward-n684716\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>garnered<\/a> 29% of Asian votes in Nevada, up 8 points compared to Republican nominee Mitt Romney in 2012. <\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>FILE \u2013 In this Nov. 5, 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/european-regulator-to-lift-boeing-737-max-grounding-in-january\/\" title=\"European regulator to lift Boeing 737 MAX grounding in January\">file photo<\/a>, supporters of President Donald Trump protest the Nevada vote in front of the Clark County Election Department in Las Vegas. That number was up 11% from 2016. <\/p>\n<p>In 2020, Trump lost Nevada by 2.4%.
