Churches and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/number-of-young-americans-who-identify-as-lgbt-skyrockets-poll\/\" title=\"Number Of Young Americans Who Identify As LGBT Skyrockets: Poll\">popular culture<\/a> influence \u200dworldviews significantly, leading to \u2063a blend of various ideologies. \u2064Barna urges a return to foundational \u2064teachings to counter the influence of diverse, potentially misleading worldviews.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/washingtonstand\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/washingtonstand\/%20\"><span>Dan Hart, The Washington Stand<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 30, 2024 at 1:14pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>A new study is confirming that the amount of Americans with a biblical worldview is continuing to shrink.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arizonachristian.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/CRC-Release-AWVI-3-May-28-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest release<\/a> from the \u201cAmerican Worldview Inventory 2024\u201d noted that the number of people with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bible-not-justify-anti-semitism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">biblical worldview<\/a> has declined in each of the last five generations, with the percentage of adults with that view plunging from 12 percent to 4 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, George Barna, director of research at Arizona Christian University\u2019s Cultural Research Center,\u00a0joined\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gt5Tu0zap9I\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington Watch<\/a>\u201d to unpack the details of the study.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that a person\u2019s worldview is developed between 15 to 18 months of age and the age of 13, and that worldview is pretty much going to define who they are, how they live, what kind of experiences they have, the lifestyle they adopt, all these things and more,\u201d Barna said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorldview is so critical because every decision that every person makes, every moment of their life, flows through their worldview. \u2026 And what our research has consistently shown is that children are not being pointed in the direction of developing a biblical worldview,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead, what they\u2019re doing is they\u2019re adopting the ways of the world. And part of the reason for that is because their parents love them, and they want them to succeed in life. But toward that end, they\u2019re not necessarily setting them up to develop a biblical worldview.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barna, who also serves as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-makes-false-claims-about-border-crisis-were-not-holding-children-in-cells-separating-from-parents\/\" title=\"Biden Makes False Claims About Border Crisis: \u2018We\u2019re Not\u2019 Holding Children \u2018In Cells,\u2019 Separating From Parents\">senior research fellow<\/a> at Family Research Council\u2019s Center for Biblical Worldview, went on to observe that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/problem-41-churchgoers-seeing-no-biblical-problem-sex-marriage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">churches<\/a> are also playing a significant role in the decline of biblical worldview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]he reality is, not many people go to Sunday school anymore, not many children,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd [basic biblical beliefs] are not the things that they\u2019re learning there. So if we could get back to that traditional Sunday school, one-on-one kind of teaching where people got this kind of bedrock information, the real solid foundation on which to begin building a deeper faith, it would make a world of difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barna further detailed how most Americans have developed a worldview characterized by \u201csyncretism.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Did your parents teach you the biblical worldview?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201c[O]ur research is showing the average American combines nine different worldviews to get to their own customized worldview,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re drawing ideas from many different places \u2014 post-modernism, secular humanism, eastern mysticism, Wicca, Satanism \u2026 Marxism \u2014 and putting them together into a customized blend that makes us feel comfortable, that makes us feel secure or safe, that we see other people adopting so we know it\u2019s popular.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose are based primarily on emotion and circumstance, and so they can change willy nilly. What we really want people to do is to recognize there\u2019s a source of unchanging truth that is God. God defines truth. We want to be aligned with that truth because it honors and glorifies Him, but it\u2019s also in our best interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barna also said that popular culture is a major factor in forming the worldview of most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/2024-election-biden-government-lost-consent-governed-majority-americans-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Americans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]he arts and entertainment media \u2026 are dominating this space in our culture,\u201d he said. \u201cOur kids are spending so much time with the media, and basically, it\u2019s unsupervised time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no kind of oversight that\u2019s being given to our children to understand, \u2018Wait, you were just exposed to Marxist ideology? It\u2019s false. Let me explain what that is and why that is.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]his is the insidious part of this process, [which] is that while we\u2019re being entertained, we\u2019re growing our worldview. All these messages are being given to us in entertainment vehicles, whether it\u2019s video games, movies, television, music, books \u2014 there\u2019s so many different media vehicles that are teaching Americans\u2019 worldview.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barna concluded by underscoring the vital role that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/federal-court-rejects-parents-attempt-shield-children-lgbt-reading-assignments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">parents<\/a> play in forming the worldview of their children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]he only people that make disciples are disciples,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, number one, as a parent, you\u2019ve got to be a disciple if you want your child or children to be followers of Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then secondly, recognize that biblically it\u2019s your dominant responsibility in life. This may be the most important thing you ever do in your life is to raise your child to be an ardent follower of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpend more time on this than you do on sports, than you do on shopping, than you do on hobbies, than you do on watching movies and TV together. It\u2019s the most important thing that you\u2019re ever going to do.
