Her stance against protecting\u2062 those who exploit children \u200dhighlights the urgency for stricter penalties. Susan Talamantes Eggman took to the California Senate floor on Wednesday, as the state <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/us\/california-democrat-calls-out-colleagues-in-impassioned-speech-im-done\/ar-BB1nk4ba?ocid=BingNewsSerp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">looked to pass a new law<\/a> upgrading penalties for soliciting sex from a minor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240SB1414\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate Bill 1414<\/a> Crimes: solicitation of a minor was introduced in February and looked to upgrade the crime of soliciting a minor from a misdemeanor to felony, carrying a two to four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-please-pardon-jon-woods-a-victim-of-process-crimes-like-michael-flynn\/\" title=\"President Trump, Please Pardon Jon Woods, a Victim of Process Crimes Like Michael Flynn\">year prison sentence<\/a>, payment of a fine and sex offender registration.<\/p>\n<p>During her time to speak, Talamantes Eggman became enraged over amendments made to the bill by California\u2019s Senate Public Safety Committee. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcra.com\/article\/california-bill-felony-purchase-child-for-sex-passes-state-senate\/60889389\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KCRA-TV<\/a> reported these changes would not make solicitation a felony if the minor is 16 or 17 years old \u2014 effectively protecting some child abusers.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Democrat CA state Senator Susan Talamantes Eggman says she is \u201cdone\u201d with the Democrat party protecting violent criminals who abuse children.<\/p>\n<p>Wow \ud83d\udd25\ud83d\udd25<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to say as a progressive, proud member of this body for the last 12 years, I\u2019m done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m done with us protecting\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BT6kL7b4o5\">pic.twitter.com\/BT6kL7b4o5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CollinRugg\/status\/1796016066487034180?\">May 30, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She put her foot down: \u201cI\u2019m done. I\u2019m done with us protecting people who would buy and abuse our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nba-star-dwyane-wade-fire-pro-trans-website-made-children-sick-degenerate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">children<\/a>. I\u2019m done. \u2026\u00a0 I don\u2019t want more people in prison, but I don\u2019t want people buying girls. I don\u2019t want people buying little girls anymore, and I\u2019m tired of saying its OK and that we have to protect the men who do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am arguing that we have a moral responsibility to say enough. \u2026We have given away enough on this area, and we\u2019ve got to move back into the center, or we all look like fools.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should there be harsher penalties for people who exploit children?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Talamantes Eggman also mentioned how lax laws currently in place do not do enough in mentioning what she sees happening in the state\u2019s capital in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cry-america-prayer-rallies-take-place-state-capitols\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sacramento<\/a>. \u201cMen are being given a little slap on the hand or a couple of days [in jail], and then they\u2019re back out again, and they do the same thing. They get caught over and over and over again, and somehow that\u2019s OK. Its not OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the current law is absolutely unacceptable in allowing sex offenders to slip by with little punishment, where is the controversy concerning 16 and 17 year olds coming from? The initial draft was criticized by California Public Defenders Association, who told the U.K.\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-13474875\/California-Democrat-Susan-Eggman-pedophiles-bill.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a>, \u2018This change will unfortunately lump some defendants into the category of sex offender with lifelong consequences for them and their families even though the intent is completely lacking,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill\u2019s author, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/republican-appointed-federal-judge-dies-incident-near-courthouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Republican<\/a> state Sen. Shannon Grove, called the change, \u201cgarbage\u201d stating it was \u201cno longer my bill\u201d due to the change.<\/p>\n<p>Talamantes Eggman is right to be enraged, but as she implied, this needed to happen much sooner.<\/p>\n<p>How anyone could look to protect sex offenders who prey on children in the first place is incomprehensible.<\/p>\n<p>One year in jail is nothing compared to the harm and lasting trauma victims will experience.<\/p>\n<p>Talamantes Eggman said she has personally witnessed the failings of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/quaid-will-vote-trump-citing-weaponization-justice-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the system<\/a> with criminals back on the streets in no time at all.<\/p>\n<p>We only need to look at the numbers to see how right she is as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/california-releases-thousands-pedophiles-less-year-convictions-data-shows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thousands of pedophiles are put back on the streets<\/a> in California in less than a year.<\/p>\n<p>Even under the proposed felony law, two to four years seems lenient.<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives lamenting California\u2019s downfall is nothing new.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, despite hammering everything that state has done from its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/california-fast-food-chains-fire-workers-20-minimum-wage-kicks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disastrous minimum wage laws<\/a> to its leniency towards sex offenders, the left \u2014 specifically Gov.
