The plan, set to start on June 30, could\u2063 impose fees up \u200cto $36 for\u2063 trucks during peak \u2063hours, \u2062compared to $15 for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-administration-reopens-ports-of-entry-after-border-blowback-from-democrats\/\" title=\"Biden reopens entry ports following Democratic border criticism\">passenger \u2064vehicles<\/a> below 60th Street in Manhattan. The Trucking Association of New York has taken legal action by filing a lawsuit in \u2062a Manhattan federal court \u200bto postpone \u200dthe\u2062 implementation of\u2064 New York\u200d City&#8217;s congestion pricing policy. Their\u2062 primary \u2062concern is the perceived \u2062inequality \u200cin charges, with trucks facing fees as\u200b high as $36 during peak hours,\u2064 while passenger vehicles are only charged \u2062$15 below 60th Street in Manhattan.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>The Trucking Association of New York filed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>lawsuit<\/a> Thursday in a Manhattan federal court seeking to delay <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>New York City\u2019s<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/toll-roads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>congestion pricing<\/a> policy on the grounds that it would unfairly charge truckers.<\/p>\n<p>The plan is slated to begin June 30, and could charge trucks up to $36 during peak hours against $15 for passenger vehicles entering Manhattan on or below 60th Street.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTANY and its members are not fundamentally opposed to congestion pricing,\u201d the association posted on X. \u201cTANY is fighting to overturn the current version of this plan and hopes to improve the plan to reduce its adverse impacts and introduce parity for the logistics industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New York City\u2019s Metropolitan Transit Authority decided to implement the plan to raise further funding for the agency and to alleviate traffic, but it has been met with criticism. Truckers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/04\/03\/nyregion\/nj-congestion-pricing-federal-court.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>join<\/a> Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) and a few others in challenging the plan in court.<\/p>\n<p>TANY President Kendra Hems told the <em>New York Times<\/em> that the association \u201cwasn\u2019t pushing back on the overall program,\u201d but \u201csimply the way trucks are being targeted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those remarks paled in comparison to what she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrucker.com\/trucking-news\/the-nation\/trucking-association-of-new-york-files-suit-against-manhattans-plan-to-toll-vehicles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> a popular trucking news website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe MTA\u2019s reckless congestion pricing policy ignores the warnings and counsel of industry experts on both sides of the Hudson, who warn that the discriminatory way trucks and logistics companies are targeted by the plan will increase costs for residents everywhere,\u201d Hems said. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis lawsuit was a step we took only out of necessity after the MTA repeatedly refused to make any concessions to our industry and ultimately used our essential, hard-working members as a tool to meet their arbitrary funding requirements.
