Chinese Leader Set To Meet President Biden Virtually\">top political opponent<\/a>, proving the approach is not a winning strategy with majorities of American voters, who refuse to buy the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-will-have-to-do-a-lot-more-than-hold-hearings-to-stop-the-rogue-fbi-and-doj\/\" title=\"Republicans Will Have To Do A Lot More Than Hold Hearings To Stop The Rogue FBI And DOJ\">partisan show trials<\/a> as serious proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>According to the May survey conducted by Marist National Poll with NPR and PBS, 67 percent of registered voters said a guilty verdict in the New York \u201chush money trial\u201d \u201cmakes no difference\u201d in their vote this November. Just 17 percent said a guilty verdict would make them less likely to cast a ballot for the former president, and 15 percent said a jury conviction would make them more likely to vote for Trump.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1998564844\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-624aa268b4363ebfceecd9bdddc58e94 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-624aa268b4363ebfceecd9bdddc58e94\"><\/div>\n<p>If the Manhattan jury finds the Republican presidential candidate not guilty, however, the result would be devastating for Democrats, with 14 percent of voters reporting exoneration would leave them more likely to vote for Trump. Another 9 percent said a not guilty verdict would make them less likely to back the Republican, and 76 percent said Trump\u2019s jury-proven innocence would have no bearing on their vote this fall.<\/p>\n<p>The Marist survey of 1,261 adults was conducted over the phone and internet between May 21 to May 23 with a +\/-3.7 percent margin of error. Pollsters interviewed 1,122 registered voters.<\/p>\n<p>The poll was released on the second day of jury deliberations in the former president\u2019s Manhattan trial in which Trump was charged with 34 felonies related to years-old alleged <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/29\/democrats-not-trump-are-the-real-crooked-record-keepers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bookkeeping crimes<\/a> prosecutors previously declined to prosecute. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg rushed to unveil the indictment last year, becoming the first to issue criminal charges against a former president, who is accused of an improper filing of an NDA payment to pornographer Stormy Daniels.<\/p>\n<p>New York Judge Juan Merchan has repeatedly prohibited Trump from speaking freely about the case throughout the proceedings, and Trump now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/05\/28\/trump-merchan-sentencing-prison-00151613#:~:text=The%20maximum%20sentence%20for%20the,charged%20with%2034%20separate%20counts.\">faces<\/a> four years in prison for each of the 34 charges \u2014 a maximum of 136 years behind bars.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ab1aa7bc2b799492be018117aa5581b5 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-ab1aa7bc2b799492be018117aa5581b5\"><\/div>\n<p>Republicans on Capitol Hill blasted Merchan this week as a biased official improperly selected to conduct to politically sensitive trial. On Tuesday, Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., who chairs the House Republican Conference, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/29\/stefanik-complaint-judge-merchan-was-intentionally-selected-to-ensure-trump-is-convicted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filed<\/a> a complaint with the New York State Unified Court System alleging Judge Juan Merchan was secretly selected in contradiction to a legal mandate for the random assigning of judges. Judge Merchan, Stefanik noted, was somehow randomly selected to preside over a previous trial against the Trump Organization, an upcoming trial against former Trump White House adviser Steve Bannon, and Bragg\u2019s criminal trial against Trump himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf justices were indeed being randomly assigned in the Criminal Term, the probability of two specific criminal cases being assigned to the same justice is quite low, and the probability of three specific criminal cases being assigned to the same justice is infinitesimally small,\u201d Stefanik wrote in a letter to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/update-corrupted-software-that-stole-6000-votes-from-trump-in-michigan-county-shut-down-for-two-hours-in-red-counties-in-georgia-on-election-day\/\" title=\"Update: Corrupted Software that Stole 6,000 Votes From Trump in Michigan County -- Shut Down for TWO HOURS in Red Counties in Georgia on Election Day\">state officials<\/a>. \u201cAnd yet, we see Acting Justice Merchan on all three cases.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, wrote a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vance.senate.gov\/press-releases\/senator-vance-calls-for-criminal-investigation-into-judge-merchan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> to Attorney General Merrick Garland on Wednesday demanding the Department of Justice (DOJ) investigate Merchan\u2019s trial misconduct, specifically gag orders imposed on Trump and the judge\u2019s personal conflicts of interest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Merchan\u2019s orders, a Republican presidential candidate has been made powerless to question the credibility of the witnesses testifying against him, the motivations of the prosecutors pursuing him, or the impartiality of the apparently conflicted judge fining him,\u201d Vance wrote. Merchan\u2019s daughter, meanwhile, \u201cseems to be an obvious beneficiary of Merchan\u2019s biased rulings,\u201d Vance added. \u201cShe works as a fundraiser for Democratic officials and organizations, and she helped her clients raise $93 million from donors during Trump\u2019s trial in New York, partly by invoking the case and smearing the defendant in solicitation emails.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-96c7eadcf1fb6b58b2e00847aff6c7a4 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-96c7eadcf1fb6b58b2e00847aff6c7a4\"><\/div>\n<p>Trump\u2019s New York City bookkeeping trial may be the only case wrapped up before the November election, with the former president\u2019s three other criminal cases facing courtroom <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/24\/this-week-in-lawfare-land-deadly-force\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">delays<\/a>.
