The investigation seeks to address issues regarding\u2062 the Secret Service&#8217;s conduct and protocols.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>The House Oversight Committee is opening an investigation into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/secret-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Secret Service<\/a> following reports that an agent assigned to Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kamala-harris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Kamala Harris<\/a> physically attacked her commanding officer. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Briefing-Request-re-Secret-Service-petition-053024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>In a letter<\/a> sent to the Secret Service Thursday, Chairman James Comer (R-KY) requested a briefing from agency officials about how it hires and trains personnel and whether that process poses national security risks. The investigation comes after the Secret Service agent allegedly assaulted her superior and other agents trying to subdue her while on duty at Joint Base Andrews, which was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/2976729\/secret-service-agent-protecting-kamala-harris-involved-in-fight-with-other-agents\/\"> reported<\/a> by the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> last month. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-emerges-as-dividing-line-for-dems-in-pennsylvania-senate-primary\/\" title=\"Biden Emerges as Dividing Line for Dems in Pennsylvania Senate Primary\">incident raised concerns<\/a> within the agency about the hiring and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">screening process<\/a> for this agent: specifically whether previous incidents in her work history were overlooked during the hiring process as years of staff shortages had led the agency to lower once stricter standards as part of a diversity, equity and inclusion effort,\u201d Comer said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>The agent was later removed from her assignment, according to the Secret Service. A spokesperson for the agency reported the agent \u201cbegan displaying behavior their colleagues found distressing\u201d and described the incident as a \u201cmedical matter.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The investigation comes in response to a petition circulating within the Secret Service calling for a congressional inquiry, raising concerns that the incident, along with other related reports, is the result of \u201cinadequate training.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>The committee is requesting a briefing to detail how the agency is responding to the incident and how it will \u201cquickly remedy any vulnerabilities.\u201d Comer gave the Secret Service a deadline of June 13 to provide a briefing.
