Bush and was confirmed in 2001, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/mynews4.com\/news\/local\/judge-larry-r-hicks-appointed-by-bush-dies-at-80-flags-at-half-staff-in-nevada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KRNV-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Reno police were called to a vehicle-pedestrian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/blonde-beauty-run-dragged-car-horrific-st-louis-hit-run-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">incident<\/a> near the federal courthouse in Reno at about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Hicks was taken to a hospital but died there.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with them in their investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Impairment doesn\u2019t appear to be a reason for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/tragedy-strikes-71-year-old-mom-daughter-hit-car-police-chase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crash<\/a>, police said, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rgj.com\/story\/news\/2024\/05\/29\/us-district-court-judge-larry-hicks-killed-in-crash-in-reno\/73902081007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reno Gazette-Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: US District Court Judge Larry Hicks, who was appointed by President George W. He is the father of Washoe County DA Chris Hicks.<\/p>\n<p>The family issue a statement that was published by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kolotv.com\/2024\/05\/30\/federal-judge-larry-hicks-has-died\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KOLO-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, our community lost an extraordinary man. Judge Larry Hicks was a deeply admired, lawyer and judge, a devoted friend, mentor, and a committed servant to the administration of justice,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo us, he was first and foremost, a man who put nothing before family. He was a hero in all manners, a loving husband of nearly 59 years, a doting dad, an adoring Papa, and brother. His loss is beyond comprehension.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam issued a statement published by the Reno Gazette-Journal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s news regarding the Honorable Judge Larry R. Hicks who served <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/climate-activists-block-road-refuse-move-change-heart-nevada-rangers-truck-comes-speeding-view\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nevada<\/a> for over 53 years is tragic,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJudge Hicks began his legal career in 1968 as a prosecutor in the Washoe County District Attorney\u2019s Office, ultimately serving as the District Attorney from 1974 through 1978. In 1978, Hicks became a partner in a private practice until his 2001 appointment as a U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Nevada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite his notable accomplishments, Judge Hicks once stated, \u2018My greatest thrill in life is my family.\u2019 His life philosophy was based on a balance of family, work, and self.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement continued:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLarry Hicks was a one of a kind man, revered in our community and, most importantly, beloved by his family. On behalf of my family and the men and women of the Sheriff\u2019s Office, we extend our deepest condolences to Larry\u2019s son Chris, the current District Attorney, and all of Larry\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/harrowing-footage-young-family-carjacked-driveway-gunfire-rings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">family<\/a>.
