The bipartisan committee formed an \u2063investigative subcommittee to scrutinize the accusations, including bribery, misuse of position, and other \u2064violations. Upper III<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 30, 2024 at 8:47am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Embattled Texas Democrat Henry Cuellar just found out that he\u2019s about to become even more embattled than he already was.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the House Ethics Committee announced an additional investigation into the border-district Democrat after news of a federal indictment against him for accepting bribes.<\/p>\n<p>Even worse for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-rep-tim-ryan-announces-ohio-senate-bid\/\" title=\"Democrat Rep. Tim Ryan announces Ohio Senate bid\">10-term representative<\/a> was the news that the committee had voted unanimously to form an investigative subcommittee, meaning that the five Democrats on the committee presumably voted in favor of the investigation along with the five Republicans, led by committee chair Michael Guest of Mississippi.<\/p>\n<p>That would include his fellow Texas Democrat, Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/kamala-harris-lands-border-democratic-rep-reveals-border-transformation-welcome-new-ellis-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Veronica Escobar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Cuellar and his wife, Imelda, stand accused by the Biden Justice Department of having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/indicted-democratic-congressman-accused-taking-bribes-mexican-banking-giant-alter-legislation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-says-cnn-reports-of-rep-gaetz-request-for-meeting-are-completely-false\/\" title=\"Trump Says CNN Reports Of Rep. Gaetz Request For Meeting Are \u2018Completely False\u2019\">accepted bribes<\/a><\/a> amounting to $598,000 from \u201cforeign entities, including a Mexican bank and an oil and gas company controlled by Azerbaijan,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/house-ethics-committee-opens-investigation-rep-henry-cuellar-rcna154602\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever a House member is charged with a crime, House rules require that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/eric-swalwell-accused-ethics-violation-becoming-hunter-bidens-new-wingman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethics Committee<\/a> create an investigative subcommittee to look into the matter, or explain to the House within 30 days of the charges being filed why it would not investigate.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/ethics.house.gov\/press-releases\/statement-chairman-and-ranking-member-committee-ethics-regarding-representative-henry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> issued Wednesday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gop-led-house-ethics-committee-votes-investigating-democrat-rep-jamaal-bowman-fire-alarm-scandal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethics Committee<\/a> said it was \u201caware of the risks associated with dual investigations\u201d and would work with the DOJ to \u201cmitigate the potential risks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The subcommittee, which will be chaired by Guest, is charged with looking into whether Cuellar \u201csolicited or accepted bribes, gratuities, or improper gifts; acted as a foreign agent; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-ethics-opens-probe-into-indicted-dem-henry-cuellar\/\" title=\"House Ethics Investigates Indicted Democrat Henry Cuellar\">violated federal money laundering laws<\/a>; misused his official position for private gain; and\/or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-gop-governor-rips-mlb-for-caving-to-cancel-culture-says-president-biden-is-lying-about-voting-reform-bill\/\" title=\"Georgia GOP Governor Rips MLB For \u2018Caving To Cancel Culture,\u2019 Says President Biden Is \u2018Lying\u2019 About Voting Reform Bill\">made false statements<\/a> or omissions on public disclosure statements filed with the House,\u201d according to the statement.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should Rep.
