The officer stood by his account, praising Scheffler for his respectful behavior.\u200b The dropped charges included a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/21-year-old-man-charged-with-murder-of-texas-pastor\/\" title=\"21-year-old man charged with murder of Texas pastor\">felony assault charge<\/a>. Detective Gillis addressed the incident, emphasizing the need to move forward, expressing gratitude for Scheffler&#8217;s demeanor, and addressing the controversy with Scheffler&#8217;s attorney. Gillis \u200balso mentioned sustaining injuries during the incident.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The Louisville police officer who arrested Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 golfer in the world, earlier this month released a statement after charges against Scheffler were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/charges-dropped-against-scottie-scheffler-prosecutor-says-golfers-characterization-corroborated-by-the-evidence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dropped<\/a> on Wednesday, standing by the version of events he described in his police report while praising the golfer for his \u201crespect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The four criminal charges, including a felony assault charge, against Scheffler were dropped after Jefferson County (KY) Attorney Mike O\u2019Connell said on Wednesday that Scheffler\u2019s version of the incident \u201cis corroborated by the evidence.\u201d Louisville Metro Police Department Detective Bryan Gillis released a statement shortly after the charges were dropped, saying he wants to move past the bizarre incident as \u201cthere are more important things in the world right now,\u201d Wave 3 News <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/wardjolles\/status\/1795934865088528512\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. In a postscript, he also mentioned his $80 pants which he said were ruined during the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Scheffler and I agree that there will be no ill will over this going forward. Instead of giving a negative public reaction, he chose to speak with dignity, humility, and respect. My family and I appreciate that,\u201d Gillis said.<\/p>\n<p>The detective then blasted Scheffler\u2019s attorney Steve Romines for calling Scheffler\u2019s detainment a \u201cfalse arrest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was unfortunate and disturbing to hear Steve Romines\u2019 commentary today claiming that a \u2018false arrest\u2019 was made and for him to challenge my honesty and integrity. I\u2019d be surprised and disappointed if Mr. Scheffler actually had any part in making those statements,\u201d Gillis said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be clear, I was drug by the car, I went to the ground, and I received visible injuries to my knees and wrist,\u201d he added. \u201cI\u2019m going to recover from it, and it will be OK. This is the extent of my commentary on the incident. The reality is that there are more important things in the world right now than a back-and-forth over this. Scheffler said he was told by a police officer to drive \u201cthe opposite way with the traffic\u201d to get into the golf club, but moments later, Gillis reportedly told Scheffler to stop his vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The golfer was accused of failing to obey Gillis\u2019 order, which allegedly resulted in the officer being dragged by Scheffler\u2019s car. I\u2019ve spent two decades trying to protect this city through some challenging times,\u201d Gillis added. \u201cI wish Scottie Scheffler and his family all the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a postscript, Gillis addressed the $80 pants that he wrote about in his police report, which became the butt of many jokes on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPS\u2026Yes, the department has us buying freaking $80 pants,\u201d he wrote. \u201cTo those concerned, they were indeed ruined.
