Upper III<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 30, 2024 at 5:09am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Should Ukraine be allowed to use long-range weapons supplied by France, the United States and other NATO countries to strike enemy targets inside Russian territory?<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the question hanging over NATO talks this week, as both France and the U.S. have hinted that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-rise-of-wokeness-in-the-u-s-military\/\" title=\"The Rise of Wokeness in the U.S. Military\">longstanding policy prohibiting<\/a> such attacks should be changed.<\/p>\n<p>Ostensibly, NATO leaders are meeting this week to work out the details of a \u201cpackage of support\u201d prior to the July NATO summit in Washington, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/europe\/20240530-nato-meets-calls-grow-let-ukraine-strike-targets-inside-russia-jens-stoltenberg-volodymyr-zelensky-weapons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">France 24<\/a>, a publicly funded French news network.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine has been \u201cpressing\u201d allies for permission to attack targets inside Russia, France 24 reported, which has to some degree enjoyed protection of its forces by launching long-range attacks from inside its own country, making weapons off-limits to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/british-commandos-dominated-american-soldiers-in-combat-training-exercise-forced-them-to-surrender-report\/\" title=\"British Commandos \u2018Dominated\u2019 American Soldiers In Combat Training Exercise, Forced Them To Surrender: Report\">counter-attacks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Both the U.S. and Germany have remained firm about not giving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/zelenskyy-says-working-washington-tie-future-presidents-hands-forcing-support-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine<\/a> such permission out of fear of being more deeply involved against Russia in the war, the outlet said.<\/p>\n<p>Russia, however, already considers NATO to be engaged in the war, according to a Wednesday article from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/29\/us\/politics\/biden-ukraine-russia-weapons.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNATO is flirting with military rhetoric and falling into military ecstasy,\u201d Dmitry Peskov, whom the Times described as \u201cthe Kremlin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/investors-worry-about-economic-uncertainty-created-by-bidens-elevated-spending\/\" title=\"Investors worry about economic uncertainty created by Biden\u2019s elevated spending\">top spokesman<\/a>,\u201d told the paper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAsked if the Western alliance was nearing a direct confrontation with Russia, he said: \u2018They are not getting close; they are in it,&#8217;\u201d the Times reported.<\/p>\n<p>That may be why some NATO countries have recently been hinting at an openness to allowing their weapons to be used against targets inside Russia for the first time since the invasion of Ukraine began.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should Ukraine be allowed to use U.S. weapons to attack Russia?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has recently said \u201crepeatedly\u201d that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nato-chief-says-ukraine-will-join-alliance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NATO<\/a> needed to reconsider the limits member states had put upon Ukraine\u2019s ability to take the battle to Russian forces, France 24 noted.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet wrote that French President Emmanuel Macron also said recently that Ukraine \u201cshould be allowed to \u2018neutralise\u2019 bases in Russia used to launch strikes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we tell (the Ukrainians) you do not have the right to reach the point from which the missiles are fired, we are in fact telling them that we are delivering weapons to you, but you cannot defend yourself,\u201d Macron said late Tuesday during a state visit to Germany, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-war-macron-weapons-e308755a31716ee0123b441bb9b548b0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And in a Wednesday piece, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/05\/29\/biden-aides-signal-openness-to-allowing-ukraine-to-strike-russia-with-us-weapons-00160462\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a> reported that two \u201csenior Biden administration officials\u201d had hinted recently that American policy toward Kyiv\u2019s use of NATO weapons might soon change.<\/p>\n<p>One of those senior officials was Secretary of State <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ted-cruz-goes-off-blinken-hearing-makes-bombshell-accusation-biden-admin-funded-enemies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Antony Blinken<\/a>, who told reporters that Biden\u2019s Ukraine policy had always been \u201cto adapt as the conditions have changed, as the battlefield has changed, as what Russia does has changed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve adapted and adjusted, too, and we\u2019ll continue to do that,\u201d he added, according to Politico.<\/p>\n<p>National Security Council spokesman John Kirby made a similar comment shortly thereafter, insisting that \u201cno change\u201d had yet been made to U.S. policy while also arguing that the administration\u2019s \u201csupport to Ukraine has evolved appropriately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seth G. Jones, a former U.S. military official who leads the international security program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, told the Times that Ukraine attacking targets inside Russia was similar to the U.S. and its allies attacking infrastructure inside Germany and Japan during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-ukraine-removes-key-part-world-war-ii-memorial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World War II<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He also called concerns of Russian escalation of the conflict \u201coverblown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has not been blowback against other NATO countries, such as the U.K., whose weapons Ukraine is using to strike targets in Russia,\u201d Jones told the Times. \u201cAnd Putin\u2019s threats of escalations since the war began have been hollow.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>I heard a chilling comment the other day: \u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That wasn\u2019t said by a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prophet.
