The decision followed a lack \u2064of evidence to pursue prosecution. Scheffler&#8217;s account of \u200bthe incident\u200c was supported by the evidence\u2064 reviewed. The arrest stemmed from a misunderstanding with the Louisville Police while Scheffler tried to access a golf \u200bclub during \u200bthe PGA \u200cChampionship.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The four criminal charges against the world\u2019s best golfer Scottie Scheffler, including a felony assault charge, have been dropped after Jefferson County (KY) Attorney Mike O\u2019Connell said on Wednesday that his office cannot move forward with the prosecution, ESPN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/golf\/story\/_\/id\/40240096\/charges-dropped-scottie-scheffler-louisville-arrest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Connell and Scheffler\u2019s attorney, Steve Romines, appeared in court on Wednesday. O\u2019Connell said Scheffler\u2019s version of the incident \u201cis corroborated by the evidence.\u201d Scheffler said the incident with the Louisville Police was a \u201cbig misunderstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased upon the totality of the evidence, my office can not move forward in the prosecution of the charges filed against Mr. Scheffler,\u201d O\u2019Connell said. \u201cMr. Scheffler\u2019s characterization that this was a \u2018big misunderstanding\u2019 is corroborated by the evidence. The evidence we reviewed supports the conclusion that Detective [Bryan] Gillis was concerned for public safety at the scene when he initiated contact with Mr. Scheffler. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jeremy-renner-gives-fans-update-two-months-after-snow-plow-accident\/\" title=\"Jeremy Renner Gives Fans Update Two Months After Snow Plow Accident\">fatal accident involving<\/a> a pedestrian had stopped traffic, preventing Scheffler and other golfers from getting to the golf club\u2019s entrance, but Scheffler said he was told by a police officer to drive \u201cthe opposite way with the traffic\u201d to get into the golf club.<\/p>\n<p>Moments later, another officer with the Louisville Police Department, Detective Bryan Gillis, reportedly told Scheffler to stop his vehicle. Scheffler was accused of failing to come to a stop, and police said the golfer \u201cdragged\u201d Gillis when he continued to drive forward. After Scheffler stopped his car, the golfer was arrested and taken to jail where he was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/portland-charges-suspected-antifa-members-for-riot-that-damaged-democratic-party-headquarters\/\" title=\"Portland Charges Suspected Antifa Members For Riot That Damaged Democratic Party Headquarters\">-degree criminal mischief<\/a>, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/worlds-top-golfer-arrested-while-trying-to-enter-club-for-2nd-round-of-pga-championship\/\" title=\"Top golfer arrested attempting access PGA Championship club for 2nd round\">officer directing traffic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe demanded to be let in, and proceeded forward against my directions,\u201d Gillis <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/scottie-scheffler-arrest-body-worn-camera-policy\/story?id=110504382\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> in his police report. \u201cI was dragged\/knocked down by the driver. I then proceeded to arrest the driver.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a video following Scheffler\u2019s arrest, the golfer told another officer that he didn\u2019t know Gillis was a policeman, adding that his arm was \u201cgrabbed\u201d while he was driving toward the golf club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I\u2019m pulling in here [and] the police officer up there told me to come the opposite way with the traffic and then come in; and as I was pulling in, my window was down, an officer told me to stop,\u201d Scheffler said. \u201cFirst of all, I did not know he was a police officer. I thought he was one of the security guards that was mistaken; and as I was pulling by him, he grabbed my arm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/louisville-officials-no-bodycam-footage-available-from-scottie-scheffler-arrest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Detective Gillis \u201cdid not have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/louisville-officials-no-bodycam-footage-available-from-scottie-scheffler-arrest\/\" title=\"Louisville Officials Confirm No Bodycam Footage of Scottie Scheffler's Arrest\">body cam footage turned<\/a> on during the incident,\u201d and the officer was disciplined for failing to turn his body camera on during the arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/scottie-scheffler-speaks-out-after-felony-arrest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> following the incident saying that \u201ca very chaotic situation\u201d caused a \u201cbig misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I\u2019m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today,\u201d Scheffler added. \u201cOf course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning.
