Alito, Durbin wrote in a joint <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.senate.gov\/news\/release\/durbin-whitehouse-request-meeting-with-chief-justice-roberts-urge-roberts-to-ensure-justice-alito-recuses-himself-in-2020-election-cases\/#:~:text=May%2024%2C%202024-,Durbin%2C%20Whitehouse%20Request%20Meeting%20with%20Chief%20Justice%20Roberts%2C%20Urge%20Roberts,Himself%20in%202020%20Election%20Cases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> with Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., apparently disqualified himself from ruling on issues related to former President Donald Trump because the conservative justice flew a pair of flags Democrats don\u2019t like.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers\u2019 letter cited a series of stories by The New York Times this month that set in motion the far left\u2019s latest efforts to undermine the legitimacy of the last remaining institution to stand in the way of Democrats\u2019 agenda. The Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/17\/us\/justice-alito-flag-reactions.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> that an upside-down American flag briefly flew at Alito\u2019s Virginia residence in January 2021, and there was an \u201cAppeal to Heaven\u201d banner at his New Jersey home in Long Beach Island last summer. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-551383194\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-9c3ced4866ccb3461babcbee145d7c5f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-9c3ced4866ccb3461babcbee145d7c5f\"><\/div>\n<p>The former was flown by his wife over a dispute with a neighbor who erected an anti-Trump sign, and the latter, also known as the Pine Tree flag, is an iconic emblem of appealing to a higher power with roots in the American Revolution. Alito, they wrote to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-senate-judiciary-committee-confirms-amy-coney-barrett-for-supreme-court-democrats-boycott-committee-vote\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Senate Judiciary Committee Confirms Amy Coney Barrett for Supreme Court -- Democrats Boycott Committee Vote\">chief justice<\/a>, \u201ccreated reasonable doubt about his impartiality and his ability to fairly discharge his duties in cases related to the 2020 presidential election and January 6th attack on the Capitol. His recusal in these matters is both necessary and required.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-6e13ee765aa2b7bf67f54fe4fd42c449 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-6e13ee765aa2b7bf67f54fe4fd42c449\"><\/div>\n<p>In June, the high court will hand down <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/28\/gop-senators-embrace-democrats-latest-scotus-hoax\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">decisions<\/a> that will determine whether Trump enjoys a high enough degree of presidential immunity to escape far-left prosecution and whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) has the authority to confer excess prison time on Jan. 6 defendants. Trump\u2019s imprisonment is the Democrats\u2019 central campaign strategy to maintain the White House and their Senate majority. Alito, who has built a reputation as one of the most reliably conservative justices on the Supreme Court, is apparently in the way considering the nine<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pro-life-lawyer-and-doctor-give-live-fact-check-of-cnns-kaitlan-collins-on-abortion-pills\/\" title=\"Pro-life legal expert and physician offer real-time fact-check on CNN's Kaitlan Collins regarding abortion pills\">-justice panel<\/a> could knock down several charges facing the former president.<\/p>\n<p>The pair of far-left lawmakers probably felt emboldened to make the recusal demands by several Republican senators who <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/28\/gop-senators-embrace-democrats-latest-scotus-hoax\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bought into<\/a> what Federalist Senior Legal Correspondent Margot Cleveland <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/28\/dems-alito-freakout-is-a-false-flag-operation-to-take-down-the-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">described<\/a> as The New York Times\u2019 \u201cFalse Flag Operation To Take Down The Court.\u201d In a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/20\/i-researched-judicial-ethics-rules-for-years-heres-why-the-alito-recusal-calls-are-ridiculous\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">piece<\/a> last week, Cleveland outlined why the manufactured flag debacle offers no mandate for Alito to remove himself from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wnba-superstar-brittney-griner-heads-to-sham-trial-russian-court-system-under-microscope\/\" title=\"WNBA Superstar Brittney Griner Heads to \u201cSham Trial,\u201d Russian Court System Under Microscope\">politically sensitive cases<\/a>, writing, \u201cthe Code of Conduct does not govern a spouse\u2019s actions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alito responded to the performative outrage from Capitol Hill on Wednesday with a letter to Durbin and Whitehouse. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy wife is fond of flying flags. Democrats will probably request hearings, escalate calls for recusal, and even demand resignation or impeachment under the same <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/30\/propublicas-smearing-of-conservative-justices-is-part-of-the-lefts-ploy-to-destroy-the-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">playbook<\/a> deployed against Justice Clarence Thomas.<\/p>\n<p>Trump himself, meanwhile, has been fending off the Democrats\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/25\/democrats-campaign-strategy-of-anti-trump-lawfare-makes-a-mockery-of-the-justice-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">weaponization<\/a> of the judiciary to imprison him for years, with a New York jury beginning deliberations in the Manhattan hush money trial Wednesday. It\u2019s not really Alito that the left is after. It\u2019s Trump, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2023\/us\/trump-investigations-charges-indictments.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">88<\/a> state and federal charges filed against him designed to secure a quick and easy conviction.
