Despite instructions not to \u200binfluence the jurors, the judge allowed\u200c prosecutors\u2062 to discuss Michael Cohen&#8217;s plea,\u2064 causing Turley to express outrage at what he perceived as \u200dunfair proceedings. \u2064The\u2062 behavior of the judge overseeing the \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-judge-sets-date-for-trumps-first-criminal-trial\/\" title=\"Trump's initial criminal trial date fixed by New York judge\">hush-money trial involving<\/a> ex-President Donald Trump in New York City was deemed &#8220;otherworldly&#8221; by legal expert Jonathan Turley. Disregarding instructions to avoid swaying \u2064the jurors, \u2062the \u2064judge permitted the prosecution to bring up Michael Cohen&#8217;s plea, \u200cleading Turley to denounce the trial&#8217;s\u2062 fairness.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The presiding judge\u2019s conduct on Tuesday during closing arguments at former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s hush-money trial in New York City made for an \u201cotherworldly\u201d experience, according to George Washington University law professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-level-of-denial-jonathan-turley-rips-into-wapos-last-defense-of-russian-collusion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jonathan Turley<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Turley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/video\/2024\/05\/28\/turley_trump_courtroom_was_otherworldly_judge_allowed_jurors_to_believe_trump_violated_federal_election_law.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> Fox News host Sean Hannity that Judge Juan Merchan allowed prosecutors to discuss former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/north-america-donald-trump-us-news-ap-top-news-michael-cohen-74aaf72511d64fceb1d64529207bde64\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plea deal<\/a> in a way that implicated his old boss\u2014despite orders not to let that influence the jurors who begin deliberations on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I saw in that courtroom was really otherworldly,\u201d Turley said. \u201cI really attempted to give the judge the benefit of doubt on many occasions, but what I saw today was, frankly, outrageous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt one point, the prosecutor actually said that Michael Cohen committed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/alabama-rolls-out-new-voter-roll-verification-system-cans-democrat-supported-system\/\" title=\"Alabama introduces new voter roll verification system, replaces Democrat-backed system.\">federal election violations<\/a> upon the orders of Donald Trump,\u201d Turley added. \u201cNow, Merchan has given an instruction that the jury is not to supposed to attribute Cohen\u2019s plea deal as an issue of guilt towards Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the defense objected and Merchan just overruled it and allowed the prosecutor to repeatedly state that the federal election violations by Trump are a fact and there is not any dispute to that and Merchan just sat there,\u201d Turley said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump faces 34 felony counts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/are-the-charges-brought-against-the-trump-organizations-cfo-part-of-a-witch-hunt-experts-weigh-in\/\" title=\"Are The Charges Brought Against The Trump Organization\u2019s CFO Part Of A Witch Hunt? Experts Weigh In\">falsifying business records<\/a> to allegedly cover up payments in a bid to conceal a tryst with adult film star Stormy Daniels as part of a \u201ccatch-and-kill\u201d scheme to influence the 2016 election. Trump denies the affair and pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing his critique of the judge, Turley quipped that Merchan was \u201cas useful as a ficus plant in that courtroom\u201d as he waited for a \u201csign\u201d that the judge was listening to what prosecutors were saying during the closing arguments.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1716990157394000&#038;usg=AOvVaw33qQydjIo8bet419amChif\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>At one point, Turley explained, prosecutors said former White House aide Hope Hicks \u201cburst into tears\u201d because she knew her testimony during the trial \u201cdestroyed\u201d Trump\u2019s defense. \u201cReally? How do you know that?\u201d Turley asked rhetorically.<\/p>\n<p>Turley also noted a prosecutor \u201cbasically started to testify\u201d when saying that \u201ccatch-and-kill techniques\u201d like what Trump is accused of employing \u201care just not used in media or politics.\u201d Turley added, \u201cThat\u2019s not in the record. He was giving testimony. There\u2019s no expert for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHillary Clinton killed and planted cases in that very election,\u201d Turley went on. \u201cSome of the most outrageous hoaxes were perpetrated by the Hillary Clinton campaign with an enabling media.
