The \u2064impending criminal trials of Hunter Biden, involving\u200b gun and \u200btax fraud charges, could hinder the president&#8217;s\u2064 campaigning for the 2024 \u200belection. Despite Biden&#8217;s support for his son,\u200b these trials present significant challenges for the Biden campaign, potentially overshadowing\u2063 their efforts.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> is locked in a toss-up reelection bid against former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hunter-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Hunter Biden<\/a>\u2018s two criminal trials could very well \u201ccast a cloud\u201d over the president\u2019s ability to campaign and connect with voters ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>2024<\/a> general election.<\/p>\n<p>The president\u2019s son will face his first trial, involving felony gun charges in Delaware, on June 3. A trial surrounding separate tax fraud charges in California was originally slated to begin at the end of June but will begin in September after being delayed earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Each case represents the first criminal indictments against a child of a sitting president, but Biden allies\u00a0tell the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that both the White House and Biden campaign likely will not respond directly to the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Biden is immensely proud of his son, and he\u2019ll likely be following his trials just like any concerned parent would be doing,\u201d one strategist claimed. \u201cBut don\u2019t expect the campaign to be running cover for Hunter. They want this to make as little noise as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joe Biden and White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/memo-indicates-biden-admin-does-not-see-border-surge-ending-soon\/\" title=\"Memo Indicates Biden Admin Does Not See Border Surge Ending Soon\">largely avoided commenting<\/a> on Hunter Biden\u2019s legal proceedings beyond reiterating that the president and first lady\u00a0love and support their son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the president and first lady, this is really about being there for their son as parents and showing him love and support,\u201d a White House official said in a statement.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Hunter Biden pictured at the White House in May 2024. (Graeme Jennings\/Washington Examiner)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NBC reported on Friday that Biden allies would be following Hunter Biden\u2019s two trials to see if Joe Biden is invoked directly and subsequently decide if responses will be necessary on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple Democratic strategists familiar with Joe Biden\u2019s campaign strategy acknowledged\u00a0to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that Hunter Biden\u2019s trials would receive heavy media coverage but suggested that Trump\u2019s own criminal trials could undercut attacks levied against Joe Biden by Republicans about his son\u2019s charges.<\/p>\n<p>However, some Democratic strategists worry that while Trump\u2019s trials appear to be strengthening his grip on Republicans, Hunter Biden\u2019s trials will be harder for Joe Biden to shake.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe April fundraising numbers show that extreme MAGA Republicans don\u2019t care that their nominee will be the first man to run for the White House facing multiple felony indictments,\u201d one such strategist explained. \u201cMeanwhile, President Biden needs to shore up legs of the Democratic Party who have soured on him over the war in Gaza and simultaneously connect with independents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt certainly casts a cloud over the campaign,\u201d a second strategist stated. \u201cPresident Biden wants to draw as many contrasts between himself and Trump as possible, and Hunter\u2019s presence in court alone won\u2019t make that job any easier.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>As president, Biden has placed a premium on spending time with his family, but even those private interactions could create negative media buzz amid Hunter Biden\u2019s trials.<\/p>\n<p>For example, Joe Biden visited Hallie Biden, the widow of his late son Beau Biden, on Sunday evening. Hallie Biden was also briefly involved with Hunter Biden following Beau Biden\u2019s passing in 2015, and the White House was forced to state retroactively that the two did not discuss Hunter Biden\u2019s June trial during the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>White House spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement on Monday that the president visited his daughter-in-law ahead of the ninth anniversary of Beau Biden\u2019s death on May 30.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Lunden Roberts, the mother of Hunter Biden\u2019s youngest daughter, plans to publish a \u201ctell-all memoir\u201d regarding her \u201ctumultuous relationship\u201d with the president\u2019s son on Aug. 20, during the Democratic National Convention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLunden is finally ready to step into the light and tell her story,\u201d a preview of Roberts\u2019s memoir reads. \u201cIn her brave and honest memoir, she recounts the chaos, the broken trust, and ultimately the incredible love she found mothering and protecting the long-unacknowledged grandchild of the sitting President of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Biden team sought to\u00a0amplify Trump\u2019s New York hush money trial on Tuesday by hosting a press conference outside the courthouse just prior to the start of closing arguments in that case.<\/p>\n<p>At the event, Biden campaign communications director Michael Tyler, actor Robert De Niro, and former Capitol Police officers Michael Fanone and Harry Dunn, both of whom were on duty during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, all castigated Trump as a severe threat to democracy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Trump returns to the White House, you can kiss these freedoms goodbye that we all take for granted,\u201d De Niro claimed. \u201cAnd elections \u2014 forget about it, that\u2019s all.
