Douglas Golden shows concerns about the federal government spending large sums of money on vaccines, as\u200b was previously experienced with Operation\u200c Warp Speed during the fight against COVID-19. Moderna and \u200dPfizer are currently in talks\u2064 with the federal \u200bgovernment over the development of\u200d a vaccine for \u2062the avian flu. This move is prompting a sizeable uptick in vaccine-related stocks. However, with just three confirmed human cases of avian \u200cflu in the United States, some \u2064critics question the\u2063 necessity of such large-scale \u200cvaccination plans. Douglas Golden<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 28, 2024 at 5:51am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Talk about a blast from the past.<\/p>\n<p>Four years ago, the federal government was spending massive amounts of money on Operation Warp Speed, designed to deliver a vaccine for COVID-19 in record time.<\/p>\n<p>Pfizer and Moderna succeeded \u2014 and lo and behold, the pharma giants announced the results of successful trials <em>just after<\/em> the presidential election. What a surprise!<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the coronavirus vaccines didn\u2019t necessarily stop COVID-19 the way we were promised, and those who still believe in the product are now on something like their 53rd booster.<\/p>\n<p>The government is still paying obscene amounts of money to obtain it for those on Medicare and Medicaid \u2014 up to four times what some European countries are, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2023\/09\/28\/covid-vaccines-higher-price\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">September report<\/a> \u2014 despite the fact that evidence for the efficacy of the vaccine vis-a-vis the risks is questionable for most healthy people.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what dominated the 2020 election cycle. In 2024, expect much of the same.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrons.com\/articles\/moderna-stock-spikes-on-bird-flu-worries-73462ff5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barron\u2019s<\/a> reported last week, both Moderna and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pfizer-settles-10000-cancer-lawsuits-bid-reduce-potential-liability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pfizer<\/a> are in talks with the federal government over development of a vaccine for the avian flu, prompting a huge rise in vaccine-related stocks.<\/p>\n<p>Moderna, which saw a 13.7 spike in its stock price Wednesday, according to Barron\u2019s, confirmed it was in discussions with the government regarding \u201cadvancing our pandemic flu candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Pfizer didn\u2019t respond to Barron\u2019s, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-admin-stockpiling-nuclear-armageddon-american-soil-hhs-290m-purchase-may-dead-giveaway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health and Human Services<\/a> official acknowledged discussions were taking place.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Are you voting in the 2024 election?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe continue to have active conversations with both manufacturers, and the negotiations are ongoing,\u201d said Dawn O\u2019Connell, assistant secretary of preparedness and response at HHS, according to Barron\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking to wrap this up and have something to say very soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Barron\u2019s, \u201cO\u2019Connell also said that the agency last week had begun the process of converting 4.8 million doses of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-vaccine-expected-to-give-endangered-california-condors-protection-against-deadly-bird-flu\/\" title=\"New vaccine to safeguard California Condors from lethal bird flu.\">avian influenza vaccine<\/a> from bulk product in the government\u2019s stockpile to finished doses ready to be administered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She insisted the move wouldn\u2019t compromise the government\u2019s ability to give seasonal flu shots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt takes a couple of months to be able to fill and finish vaccine doses,\u201d O\u2019Connell said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we had these already in hand in bulk, but thought it mades sense, given what we were seeing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is all after a grand total of three (3) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/another-bird-flu-case-hits-us-crucial-election-year-linked-dairy-cow-outbreak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">avian flu<\/a> cases in humans have been confirmed in the United States. This is the total of human infection two months after the virus was detected in dairy cattle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no immediate signs that the virus is about to cause a human pandemic, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that the current public health risk remains slow,\u201d Barron\u2019s noted.<\/p>\n<p>Still, who doesn\u2019t want to party like it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/high-decibel-dog-collars-now-worn-factory-workers-enforce-social-distancing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2020 again<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>American taxpayers might not be, since they\u2019re already on the hook for spending over $30 billion to develop and acquire the COVID vaccines, according to a study published in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC9975718\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March of 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now that the pandemic is over, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2023\/09\/28\/covid-vaccines-higher-price\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stat<\/a> reported last September, the government began paying over $80 for each booster from Moderna and Pfizer.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s understandable, then, that the major vaccine makers soared on the stock market last week \u2014 Moderna by over 23 percent, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aol.com\/why-vaccine-stocks-rallied-week-121500577.html?guccounter=1&#038;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&#038;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAGa9IELDfFKzi_ouC-TA8Z8dnDmj-Dv6DYUs4c-MezKJY8qhEBM8ByTe9tawg7Ah0g2umfa6Sny8MzeTfhFSlARqePmzUszEx8g4fUgK47iKtwOK6aBjBf06SnHiHuXYEUGIxcLLnXrLWdm4FFochAHG8kdgXsVVQS2PGsjYbg6u\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Motley Fool<\/a> \u2014 after avian flu was detected in an individual in Australia. Trusting the science can be profitable, indeed.<\/p>\n<p>The question is whether it\u2019s worth it. Unlike with COVID, which was spread much more easily, there doesn\u2019t seem to be the likelihood of a mass pandemic like we saw in 2020 with avian flu. The CDC seems adamant that the risk is low.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, it helps with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cdc-officially-endorses-double-masking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">double-masking crowd<\/a> if President Joe Biden is able to tout vaccine development long after most voters stopped caring about jab-scolds and social distancing requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Putting pointless inoculation back front and center for American voters might be the only thing that makes the left universally happy about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mike-kelly-same-people-criticizing-trump-peddled-russia-collusion-hoax\/\" title=\"Mike Kelly: Same People Criticizing Trump Peddled Russia Collusion Hoax\">current situation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Independent and conservative voters might be more wary, but the president will take what he can get \u2014 particularly when he looks at where he\u2019s at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-democrats-denial-crushed-trump-polls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the polls<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>In just a few months, the world is going to change forever.
