Two particularly \u200dcontentious bills include a controversial border security proposal and an impending contraception bill. While some see this as a transparent election-year tactic \u200cto prop up vulnerable \u2063Democrats, \u2064party \u200cleaders argue they are highlighting crucial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wsj-editors-respond-to-trumps-claim-theyre-pushing-globalist-agenda-and-fading-into-irrelevance\/\" title=\"WSJ Editors Respond to Trump\u2019s Claim They\u2019re Pushing Globalist Agenda and Fading Into Irrelevance\">policy differences<\/a> with Republicans. However, this approach\u200d risks alienating GOP collaborators, limiting potential for bipartisan achievements. Democrats facing competitive elections nevertheless appear supportive of these bills, hoping their\u2062 stances will resonate with constituents.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>With dwindling legislative working weeks before November, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/senate-democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Senate Democrats\">Senate Democrats<\/a> are shifting to more messaging bills as an election-year tactic to bolster vulnerable incumbents.<\/p>\n<p>Legislation with little or no Republican buy-in that is all but certain to fail is likely to become increasingly popular with Senate Democrats, which includes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/3011985\/border-bill-boxes-senate-progressives-schumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"border security proposal\">border security proposal<\/a> that suffered its second loss this week and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/3013377\/senate-democrats-challenge-gop-with-contraception-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"contraception bill\">contraception bill<\/a> that will face similar doom next month.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic leadership promises there are more such measures on the horizon to hit the floor, a strategy that they market as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-biden-appears-to-claim-he-has-cancer-from-oil-refineries\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Biden Appears To Claim He Has Cancer From Oil Refineries\">simply highlighting<\/a> to voters their policy differences with Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re going to have to wait with bated breath to determine what\u2019s next,\u201d Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), the third-ranking Democrat, said with a laugh. \u201cThere will be other opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats face eight competitive Senate races, none of which they can afford to lose and hope to still keep the majority. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are not gimmicks. These are real issues that people in America care very deeply about,\u201d Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI), who chairs Senate Democrats\u2019 campaign arm, told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cFolks should vote and be on the record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The campaign-minded approach is turning away even those in the GOP who are most inclined to cut deals on major policy issues, presenting minimal opportunities for the Senate to muster bipartisan achievements before the elections. The chamber\u2019s 60-vote threshold means that at least nine Republicans are required to achieve nearly every legislative task. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeems to me, the Democrats are getting deep into messaging amendments as opposed to serious legislation,\u201d Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The centrist Republican argued that if Democrats were genuine about legislating, they would allow a vote on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mcconnell-joins-with-schumer-to-block-potential-trump-veto-of-defense-bill-keep-big-tech-protection\/\" title=\"McConnell Joins With Schumer To Block Potential Trump VETO Of Defense Bill, Keep Big Tech Protection\">bipartisan bill<\/a> she\u2019s co-authored to restore national abortion rights by codifying <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> into law, which also includes contraception protections. <\/p>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said they will instead vote on legislation to codify federal protections for only contraception after presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump teased he may support restrictions and as some states seek to limit access to abortion medication or birth control for some people.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats facing competitive reelections welcome the border and contraception votes with open arms. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cCould it help that I\u2019m fighting for my constituents to get their rights and freedoms back?\u201d Sen. Scott Applewhite)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Trump later walked back his contraception comments, posting on social media that he\u2019d \u201cnever, and will never advocate imposing restrictions on birth control or other contraceptives.\u201d It failed to quell fierce backlash from Democrats, including from the Biden campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow more than ever, contraception is a critical piece of protecting women\u2019s reproductive freedoms, standing as nothing short of a vital lifeline for millions of American women across the country,\u201d Schumer said.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), the GOP co-author of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-gov-abbott-signs-1-8b-border-bill-says-was-forced-to-due-to-bidens-inaction\/\" title=\"Texas Gov. Abbott signs .8B border bill, says was forced to due to Biden\u2019s inaction\">border bill<\/a>, accused Democrats of \u201cfearmongering\u201d over contraception.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one\u2019s taking away your right to contraception,\u201d he told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cThat\u2019s why this is political posturing during an election year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The border security bill started as a bipartisan agreement in February but suffered a swift death under the weight of GOP backlash, including from Trump. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) was the only Republican to support it.
