The notable and dangerous exception? Britain\u2019s recently released <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/segm_ebm\/status\/1773853694645145888\">watershed<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/cass.independent-review.uk\/\">Cass Review<\/a> comprehensively details the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/385\/bmj.q837?utm_campaign=usage&#038;utm_content=tbmj_sprout&#038;utm_id=BMJ005&#038;utm_medium=social&#038;utm_source=twitter\">paucity<\/a> of evidence and the risks of harm. In direct contrast, NCA Executive Director Teresa Huizar <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@thuizar\/how-you-can-help-stop-the-attack-on-trans-kids-in-texas-144d673ce0fc\">asserts<\/a> that \u201c[d]enying trans children the right to determine their own identity kills them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, this belief system endangers the very children NCA seeks to help.<\/p>\n<p>It is no accident that NCA\u2019s push for control over accreditation in states is mirrored at the federal level by the Biden administration\u2019s new LGBT-affirming \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fedsoc.org\/commentary\/fedsoc-blog\/non-affirmation-of-child-s-lgbtqi-identity-is-abuse-under-proposed-foster-care-rule\">certification<\/a>\u201d rule for prospective <a href=\"https:\/\/cafo.org\/new-regulations-proposed-by-biden-administration-seek-to-reshape-how-state-foster-systems-approach-questions-of-sexuality-and-gender\">foster<\/a> and adoptive parents. The Biden rule stands to devastate the foster system, which relies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alabamaag.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/2023.11.27-Foster-Care-Comment-FINAL.pdf?utm_medium=email&#038;utm_source=govdelivery\">heavily<\/a> on reality-affirming families of faith.<\/p>\n<p>Both the NCA and the Biden \u201caccreditation\u201d processes put vulnerable children at risk from misguided personnel convinced that \u201cmisgendering\u201d is <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.aap.org\/pediatricsinreview\/article-abstract\/38\/10\/496\/31997\/Child-Psychological-Abuse?redirectedFrom=fulltext&#038;utm_source=TrendMD&#038;utm_campaign=PedRev_TrendMD_0&#038;utm_medium=TrendMD\">abuse<\/a>. Children have been wrongfully removed from loving families, while children already in state care have been denied foster and adoptive homes, facing harm from state-sanctioned medical transition instead.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d0ae2c1fa40297f9de269b57f19590ad fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d0ae2c1fa40297f9de269b57f19590ad\"><\/div>\n<p>States must act not only to prevent reality-denying \u201caccreditation\u201d monopolies but by codifying in law the most basic of truths: It is not \u201cabuse\u201d to raise a girl as a girl or a boy as a boy.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>State-sanctioned Abduction and Denial of Homes<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/maryland-refused-to-give-back-a-virginia-runaway-because-her-parents-misgendered-her-then-she-was-sex-trafficked-mother-says\">Virginia<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/firstliberty.org\/media\/california-mom-who-lost-daughter-to-suicide-over-gender-issues-urges-supreme-court-to-protect-parental-rights\/\">California<\/a>, to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.becketlaw.org\/case\/m-c-and-j-c-v-indiana-department-of-child-services\/\">Indiana<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/reduxx.info\/exclusive-montana-family-loses-custody-of-teenage-daughter-after-expressing-opposition-to-her-gender-transition\/\">Montana<\/a>, parents have lost children to state systems whose mission to protect children has been <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/09\/27\/biden-take-kids-foster-gender-identity\/\">hijacked<\/a> by gender ideologues. Children have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/article\/child-custodys-gender-gauntlet\">taken<\/a> from parents for medicalization and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/26\/radical-democrats-and-courts-are-kidnapping-gender-confused-kids-for-ideological-ransom\/\">removed<\/a> into state systems where the risk of actual abuse <a href=\"https:\/\/cfrc.illinois.edu\/pubs\/rp_20010501_ChildMaltreatmentInFosterCareAStudyOfRetrospectiveReporting.pdf\">skyrockets<\/a>. They have suffered <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/01\/19\/virginia-teen-sex-trafficked-twice-after-school-hides-gender-identity-from-her-parents\/\">lifelong harm<\/a> and even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-12221449\/California-mom-claims-19-year-old-daughter-murdered-gender-ideology.html\">died<\/a>. Some Democrat-run states, by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.becketlaw.org\/case\/burke-v-walsh\/\">excluding<\/a> reality-affirming foster <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=P9r6u8cfq3o\">families<\/a>, have <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal.org\/case\/bates-v-pakseresht\">denied<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/becketnewsite\/The-Foster-Care-Crisis-and-Faith-Affirming-Agencies-8x11.pdf\">thousands<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2024\/mar\/25\/christian-foster-parents-sue-washington-over-rules\/\">homes<\/a> to vulnerable children.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat politicians, in tandem with the Biden administration, are fighting to institutionalize these developments with legislation <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CourageHabit\/status\/1759998308297081223\">redefining<\/a> abuse, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/virginia-democrat-bill-would-criminally-prosecute-parents-who-dont-affirm-their-kids-as-transgender\">criminalizing<\/a> reality-affirming <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/02\/28\/wicked-agenda-parents-sound-alarm-on-blue-state-bill-that-seeks-to-prevent-guardians-from-denying-sex-changes\/\">parents<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2023\/09\/10\/californias-coming-inquisition-targeting-anti-trans-parents\/\">removing<\/a> their children, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themainewire.com\/2024\/03\/maine-transgender-activists-launch-offensive-against-conservative-states-with-unprecedented-legal-scheme\/\">luring<\/a> minors to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/02\/18\/parental-nightmare-blue-states-becoming-magnets-runaway-kids-seeking-trans-treatments\/\">shield states<\/a>\u201d for medical transition.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Building a Stealth \u2018Gender-Affirming\u2019 Monopoly<\/h2>\n<p>Over the last several years, dozens of \u201caccreditation\u201d bills have quietly moved states toward enshrining \u201cgender affirmation\u201d in child protection systems, while sidelining objectors.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-99393515174f489f9c7e66537c0d5357 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-99393515174f489f9c7e66537c0d5357\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ojjdp.ojp.gov\/programs\/childrens-advocacy-centers\">Child advocacy centers<\/a> (CACs) provide essential care to victims of child abuse through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ojp.gov\/pdffiles1\/ojjdp\/218530.pdf\">private-public<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalcac.org\/history\/\">multi-disciplinary<\/a> centers. Services range from \u201cforensic interviews\u201d establishing abuse to case management and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/2023-PSIP-BlueBook_v5_web.pdf\">referrals<\/a> for mental health and medical treatment. As the primary membership association for CACs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/\">NCA<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/5-Reasons-2024.pdf\">offers<\/a> accreditation, training, case management software, and other resources. NCA enjoys <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2024\/03\/29\/a-proclamation-on-national-child-abuse-prevention-month-2024\/\">prominent<\/a>, bipartisan support, and lobbies for \u201cthe adoption of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Issue-Brief-State-Definitions-2019.pdf\">defining legislation<\/a> [as]  a critical element in the success of Children\u2019s Advocacy Centers, particularly related to their ability to seek and secure funding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, NCA advocacy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Issue-Brief-State-Definitions-2019.pdf\">materials<\/a> strategically omit what exactly \u201cdefining legislation\u201d means. In many state bills, like Virginia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?241+ful+SB12+hil\">SB 12<\/a>, \u201cdefining\u201d CACs doesn\u2019t just mean establishing criteria \u2014 it means <em>granting NCA sole control over accreditation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Why is this problematic? Child welfare attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/cwjt.us\/about\">Tom Rawlings<\/a> explains that while \u201cNCA standards generally reflect good practice,\u201d \u201cplacing accreditation power \u2026 in the hands of one organization means that the accrediting body\u2019s agenda drives the work.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In practice, as expressed by parental rights attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/childparentrights.org\/lawyers\/\">Mary McAlister<\/a>, local CACs \u201cthat do not share NCA\u2019s enthusiasm for [gender-affirming] treatments will not be \u2018accredited\u2019 and therefore will lose any voice in their communities regarding child abuse prevention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NCA reports that at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Issue-Brief-State-Definitions-2019.pdf\">34 states<\/a> have now adopted \u201cdefining\u201d legislation. More <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/MI\/text\/SB0547\/2023\">bills<\/a> are <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/OK\/text\/HB4130\/2024\">pending<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin wisely <a href=\"https:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?241+sum+SB12\">removed<\/a> this NCA monopoly provision from SB 12. Other states must take note.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NCA\u2019s DEI Standard: Ideology Overwhelms Evidence<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Many NCA standards are technical, but its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/diversity-equity-inclusion\/\">prominently<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/nca-online\/when-taking-a-stand-is-not-enough\">featured<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/2023-PSIP-BlueBook_v5_web.pdf\">standard<\/a> on \u201cdiversity, equity, and inclusion\u201d (DEI) departs sharply from evidence into ideology.<\/p>\n<p>This standard incorporates \u201cimplicit bias\u201d and comprehensive, ongoing DEI assessments, which extend beyond simply understanding a family\u2019s culture and community. NCA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2020-Annotated-Bibliography.pdf\">bibliography<\/a> recommends \u201cevaluat[ing] the effectiveness of integrating Critical Race Theory and other antiracist training.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aei.org\/research-products\/testimony\/racial-disparities-in-child-maltreatment-and-child-fatalities-how-the-civil-rights-of-black-children-are-violated\/\">injection<\/a> of DEI into child abuse adjudications has already put children at risk in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/kids-in-jeopardy?utm_source=tfptwitter\">New York<\/a> and other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/article\/portlands-encampment-kids\">states<\/a>. Efforts to avoid stigmatizing certain groups are <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/20\/us-news\/new-yorks-child-services-depatment-is-failing-city-kids\/?utm_source=twitter&#038;utm_medium=social&#038;utm_campaign=nypost_sitebuttons\">leading<\/a> child protection officials to leave children in fatal abuse situations.<\/p>\n<p>NCA\u2019s DEI <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/products\/foundations-of-diversity-equity-inclusion-and-access#tab-product_tab_speaker_s\">training<\/a> is led by the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.org\/news\/2015\/8\/10\/robinson-to-join-ncaa-inclusion-staff.aspx\">director<\/a> of inclusion for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), infamous for endangering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefp.com\/p\/exclusive-female-athletes-sue-ncaa-transwomen\">women<\/a> by allowing trans-identifying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/ncaa-cheats-female-athletes-again-transgender-policy-sports-37c35eea?mod=MorningEditorialReport&#038;mod=djemMER_h\">males<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecollegefix.com\/ncaa-leader-resigns-over-transgender-policy-its-massive-essentially-authorized-cheating\/\">compete<\/a> against them. The same ideology informs NCA\u2019s whole-hearted <a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/nca-online\/sexual-violence-and-gender-identity\">embrace<\/a> of \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d under the leadership of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/media-room\/nca-digital-media-kit\/nca-ceo-teresa-huizar\/\">Huizar<\/a>, executive director since 2008.<\/p>\n<p>NCA\u2019s LGBT \u201caffirming\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/oneintenpodcast.org\/episodes\/beyond-pride-can-kids-trust-us-when-they-tell-us-who-they-are\/\">framework<\/a> is reinforced through <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/products\/creating-welcoming-environments-for-lgbtqia-youth#tab-product_tab_speaker_s\">collaboration<\/a> with the National Child Trauma Stress Network (NCTSN), where Huizar has served on the advisory board since 2010. It is so disreputable the British government issued an official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2024\/02\/28\/gps-transgender-clinic-urgent-safety-warning-nhs\/\">warning<\/a> against it. Yet Huizar uncritically repeats GenderGP\u2019s many false <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@thuizar\/how-you-can-help-stop-the-attack-on-trans-kids-in-texas-144d673ce0fc\">claims<\/a>, including that puberty <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/apa.17150\">blockers<\/a> are <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/healthcare\/4573662-the-reckoning-over-puberty-blockers-has-arrived\/\">reversible<\/a> and detransition is \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/xxclusionary\/status\/1673502620831428608\">rare<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NCA Recommends \u2018Screening\u2019 Young Children for Gender Identities, Sexual Attractions<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>NCA has embedded \u201cgender affirmation\u201d in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalchildrensalliance.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/NCA-CAC-Style-Guide-2022_final.pdf\">practices<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalcac.org\/event\/interviewing-children-who-identify-as-lgbtq\/\">training<\/a>, with the central belief that identities asserted by children, regardless of age or basis in reality, represent \u201c<em>who they are authentically<\/em>\u201d (an activist catchphrase).<\/p>\n<p>This orthodoxy is fleshed out in another, jaw-dropping \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/nca-online\/increased-risk-for-lgbtq-students\">terrific<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nctsn.org\/sites\/default\/files\/resources\/special-resource\/identifying-the-intersection-of-trauma-and-sexual-orientation-and-gender-indentity-key-considerations.pdf\">resource<\/a>\u201d Huizar recommends: the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nctsn.org\/sites\/default\/files\/resources\/special-resource\/identifying-the-intersection-of-trauma-and-sexual-orientation-and-gender-indentity-the-screener.pdf\">Screener For The Intersection Of Trauma And Sexual Orientation And Gender Identity<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Children beginning at age 7 are questioned about pronouns (seven possible answers) and gender identities (13 options). As \u201cgender constancy forms between ages 3-5,\u201d personnel are encouraged to consider discussions at earlier ages. From age 12, answers are elicited about sexual orientation (12 possibilities) and attraction (13 answers).<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nctsn.org\/sites\/default\/files\/resources\/special-resource\/identifying-the-intersection-of-trauma-and-sexual-orientation-and-gender-indentity-the-screener.pdf\">screener<\/a> then offers eight questions about mistreatment, rejection, or abuse \u201cbased on your actual or perceived gender identity, sexual orientation, or intersex traits,\u201d followed by asking whether the child wants to disclose the information.
