Originally published in eight Gannett-owned papers, the removal of the\u200b piece was not\u200c communicated to Kennedy, and attempts to access it now result \u2063in a notice stating it did not meet editorial standards. Kennedy\u200d insists that the op-ed was removed due to \u200dhis refusal to use &#8220;woke terminology&#8221; about transgenderism. He has criticized USA Today for assuming the \u2062role \u2064of &#8220;speech\u200c police&#8221; and argues that such actions undermine public trust in\u2062 media. \u2062The senator&#8217;s now-deleted article, denouncing transgender athletes,\u2064 is\u200c still available\u2062 in part on his senate website.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/commentary\/\">  Commentary <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/igcolonel\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/igcolonel\/%20\"><span>Warner Todd Huston<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 27, 2024 at 12:53pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Louisiana Republican Senator John Kennedy was shocked to discover that newspaper chain\/media company USA Today quietly eliminated his op-ed in which he criticized transgender athletes.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did the Gannett-owned paper chain delete <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-scared-death-sen-john-kennedy-calls-presidents-fear-going-hamas-wing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kennedy\u2019s<\/a> op-ed, they didn\u2019t even tell him they were deleting the article that had already been published by several of the chain\u2019s participating papers days before.<\/p>\n<p>The article, published in eight of the Gannett papers, was entitled, \u201cIs transgender inclusion more important than women\u2019s sports?\u201d and excerpts of his piece are still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kennedy.senate.gov\/public\/2024\/5\/kennedy-in-the-shreveport-times-is-transgender-inclusion-more-important-than-women-s-sports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">available<\/a> on the Louisianan\u2019s senate website.<\/p>\n<p>But while the article is still featured on his senate website, the full article was removed from all the papers. Now, when you click to the link where the article used to appear, readers see a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailycomet.com\/story\/news\/2024\/05\/24\/john-kennedy-questions-whether-transgender-inclusion-is-more-important-than-womens-sports\/73639180007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">notice<\/a> that reads, \u201cContent removed: did not meet editorial standards,\u201d and continues saying, \u201cThis content has been removed because it did not meet our editorial standards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The senator has since told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/usa-today-newspapers-quietly-delete-gop-senators-op-ed-trans-athletes-without-telling-him\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a> that his article was removed because he didn\u2019t bend his knee to the woke terminology that the paper wanted him to use when speaking about radical transgenderism.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-sen-john-kennedy-calls-biden-official-sexual-abuse-takes-shot-alec-baldwin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kennedy<\/a> slammed the USA Today, telling Fox News, that the \u201cUSA TODAY Network apparently does not like the way I express myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey think they are the speech police. Drunk on certainty and virtue, they think they are our moral teacher. This attitude is why so many Americans have lost confidence in the media. The media is not going to win that trust back until they return to neutrality instead of advocacy,\u201d Kennedy claimed.<\/p>\n<p>According to his website, he made a series of claims in his article denouncing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/painful-video-sen-kennedy-shreds-woke-athlete-badly-witness-next-dying\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transgender athletes<\/a>, each backed up with a link to the source he used to reach his conclusions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome activists claim that transgender athletes are different from typical men because they take <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/very-complicated-dr-rachel-levine-dodges-sen-pauls-issue-about-sex-adjustments-for-children\/\" title=\"\u2018Very Complicated\u2019: Dr. Rachel Levine Dodges Sen. Paul\u2019s Issue About Sex Adjustments For Children\">cross-sex hormones<\/a>. After two years of cross-sex hormone treatments, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-is-off-to-a-fast-start-with-executive-orders-but-does-he-know-whats-in-them-and-can-he-explain-how-any-help-the-average-american\/\" title=\"Biden Is Off to a Fast Start with Executive Orders But Does He know What\u2019s In Them and Can He Explain How Any Help the Average American?\">biological male athletes<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2020\/dec\/07\/study-suggests-ioc-adjustment-period-for-trans-women-may-be-too-short\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">can still<\/a> run 12% faster and pound out 10% more push-ups than women,\u201d Kennedy wrote.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should this op-ed be republished?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/senator-reads-filthy-gender-queer-book-found-schools-author-confirms-never-meant-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sen. Kennedy<\/a> also said, \u201cAllowing biological boys to compete as girls will harm women\u2019s sports. Still, many activists believe their feelings and the feelings of transgender athletes are more important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMen and women don\u2019t compete for the same reasons. Yet transgender activists want athletic institutions to ignore these obvious physical differences so transgender athletes can feel included, even if it hurts biological girls in the process,\u201d the sen. also said.<\/p>\n<p>After the paper published the op-ed early in May, Kennedy said he noticed by May 14 that the links he supplied to the articles on his senate website no longer worked.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy told Fox News that he reached out to one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/usa-today-changes-trump-headline-shortly-getting-chewed-biden-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a> affiliated papers that originally published the article and had an email exchange with Misty Castile, the executive editor for the Shreveport Times.<\/p>\n<p>At first, Castile claimed that they deleted Kennedy\u2019s article because of a lack of \u201ccitations\u201d to support his claims. But in a follow-up email, she backtracked on that claim after Kennedy pointed out that there were half a dozen links to citations to support his claims.<\/p>\n<p>In other emails, Castile accused Kennedy of using \u201cloaded language\u201d because he wrote \u201cbiological male\u201d and \u201cbiological female.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Castile further demanded that he rewrite the article to use the left\u2019s woke terminology and then she would \u201cconsider\u201d republishing the article.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy blasted the paper chain, saying, \u201cMost people don\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trans-poll-shows-landslide-majority-of-americans-want-womens-sports-protected\/\" title=\"Poll: Majority of Americans Support Protection of Women's Sports\">support allowing biological men<\/a> to participate in women\u2019s sports because they think that will bastardize sports, skew the results, and hurt women. Other people disagree.
