He concludes that such blunders, regardless of\u2062 their intent, cast Biden\u2064 in a poor \u2064light and could\u2063 affect his chances of securing a second term.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/commentary\/\">  Commentary <\/a>  <\/p>\n<h2>Ultimate Disrespect: Did Biden Doze Off During Memorial Day Address?<\/h2>\n<p> <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/bchai\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/bchai\/%20\"><span>Bryan Chai<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 27, 2024 at 12:54pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>If you are a deeply unpopular incumbent president facing a stern uphill challenge in a bid for re-election (not unlike President Joe Biden) you would like to hit a couple public relations home runs en route to the general election.<\/p>\n<p>In lieu of home runs, which can certainly be tough to come by in this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/weekend-media-wrap-vol-4-what-you-missed-if-you-werent-glued-to-the-sunday-shows\/\" title=\"Weekend Media Recap: Catch Up on Sunday Shows Highlights\">hyper-partisan political climate<\/a>, the next best thing actually isn\u2019t hitting singles or doubles \u2014 it\u2019s just avoiding glaring errors.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to a viral Memorial Day clip, the already-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/muslims-turn-biden-key-swing-states-want-democrats-learn-lesson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">beleaguered<\/a> Joe Biden now finds himself trying to stave off such an error.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/05\/27\/politics\/biden-memorial-day-address-arlington-national-cemetery\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> noted, Biden spoke Monday at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, as most presidents are wont to do on Memorial Day.<\/p>\n<p>And believe it or not, there was little issue with what Biden actually said during his speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFreedom has never been guaranteed \u2014 every generation has to earn it, fight for it, defend it in battle between autocracy and democracy, between the greed of a few and the rights of many,\u201d Biden told those in attendance. \u201cIt matters. Our democracy is more than just a system of government. It\u2019s the very soul of America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cool.<\/p>\n<p>Anyways, the real issue for Biden came up when a viral clip began circulating that showed the president \u2026 less than energized.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Is Biden sleeping at the Memorial Day Address?? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VBGMbeF3Lt\">pic.twitter.com\/VBGMbeF3Lt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Post Millennial (@TPostMillennial) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TPostMillennial\/status\/1795115488814440728?\">May 27, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Will Biden\u2019s age and ability be a critical factor in the coming election?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIs Biden sleeping at the Memorial Day Address?\u201d The Post Millennial asked while sharing a clip of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fact-check-video-show-biden-falling-asleep-event-maui-wildfire-survivors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sleepy<\/a> Joe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To answer that outlet\u2019s question: No, it doesn\u2019t appear like Biden was asleep at the wheel (well, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/literally-asleep-wheel-internal-critics-expose-behavior-bidens-top-border-chief\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">no more than usual<\/a>) during this Memorial Day service.<\/p>\n<p>It really does look like Biden was closing his eyes in \u201cprayer,\u201d or at least solemn remembrance, for the men and women who\u2019ve given their lives in service to this great country.<\/p>\n<p>But the issue isn\u2019t so much the truth of the matter (it\u2019s impossible to tell if he was actually dozing off or not, given Biden appears to generally move at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-goes-viral-looking-half-asleep-mumbling-brutal-oval-office-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sloth-like pace<\/a>), so much as it\u2019s the optics of the matter.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s <em>believable <\/em>that Joe Biden was falling asleep during this moment of remembrance because that\u2019s what 81-year-old men do after anything remotely physically or mentally taxing. They nap.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s a generally big problem for Biden. The man could fix the economy and cure cancer tonight, but the fact won\u2019t change that there will always be people dubious of the man\u2019s ability to perform due to the biological realities of aging.<\/p>\n<p>And yes, Biden\u2019s chief political rival, former President Donald Trump, isn\u2019t exactly a spring chicken either, but you can\u2019t deny the sheer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-gets-heros-greeting-nascar-race-swing-state-north-carolina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">difference in energy<\/a> between the two men.<\/p>\n<p>Because of those biological realities, Biden has to outperform expectations to overcome questions about his age. He\u2019s obviously not accomplishing that, if <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/seething-biden-shouts-swears-realizing-backsliding-swing-states-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">early polling in swing states<\/a> is to be believed.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s the real problem with the viral clip of Biden \u201cnapping.\u201d Perception shapes reality, and the perception of Biden being a doddering, sleepy old fool very much feels like reality.<\/p>\n<p>The president would do well to avoid these types of snafus \u2014 even innocent ones like this \u2014 if he wants any shot of a second term.<\/p>\n<p>(Hah.)<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>I heard a chilling comment the other day: \u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That wasn\u2019t said by a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prophet.
