Amid all the hostility towards Trump, the level of anxiety from an anti-Trump \u2062legal analyst\u200c forces one\u200b to question the solidity \u200bof the case.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/commentary\/\">  Commentary <\/a>  <\/p>\n<h2>MSNBC Lawyer Worried About What Two Trump Jurors Might Know<\/h2>\n<p> <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/jsaunders\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/jsaunders\/%20\"><span>Joe Saunders<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 27, 2024 at 1:27pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>To know how weak the \u201chush money\u201d case against Donald Trump is, just listen to the worries of one of its strongest supporters.<\/p>\n<p>Even on MSNBC, a network teeming with hatred of all things Trump, former Justice Department spokesman Anthoney Coley stands out \u2014 penning columns calling for Trump to be jailed, and supporting Fulton County Georgia DA Fani Willis, among others.<\/p>\n<p>But in an interview on the MSNBC show \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/way-too-early\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Way Too Early<\/a>,\u201d he let the cat out of the bag.<\/p>\n<p>Manhattan District Attorney\u2019s prosecution of the former president is on a Memorial Day break.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-trial-hush-money-stormy-daniels-cohen-a1984e2353de3df5d0520e4f0705f7f8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a> reported Monday, the prosecution and defense have rested, but final arguments and jury instructions loom before the case goes to the 12 men and women who will decide a verdict \u2014 and potentially the outcome of the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s where Coley is really worried. Two of the jurors, he said, are attorneys.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re the kind of people who know the law, and the Trump jury might just have gotten one or two who think too much about whether Bragg has proven that a law was actually broken \u2014 and whether Trump was the one who did it.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the video here:<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you think Trump will be convicted in Manhattan?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Coley, a veteran Democratic operative who served in communications for Attorney General Merrick Garland\u2019s Justice Department from 2021 to 2023, acknowledged he was speaking a little \u201ctongue in cheek.\u201d But his worry was clearly very real.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do worry that there are lawyers on this jury, not one but two lawyers,\u201d Coley told Jonathan Lemire, host of the 5 a.m. program. (It\u2019s not called \u201cWay Too Early\u201d for nothing.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd by my own experience, lawyers can sometimes be overly analytical. They can be hyper-technical. I worry that the nonlawyers on this jury may rely on the lawyers who, quite frankly, don\u2019t have expertise in this area of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As an admission of the weakness of Bragg\u2019s case, it\u2019s astonishing as astonishing as it is damning.<\/p>\n<p>What Coley is really saying is that \u201coverly analytical\u201d lawyers might dilute the anti-Trump emotion prosecutors are counting on to poison the jury\u2019s deliberations.<\/p>\n<p>What he\u2019s saying is that a \u201chyper-technical\u201d reading of the law \u2014 in this case, basically, a reading of the law as anything other than a vehicle to railroad a political opponent of the administration in power \u2014 could be fatal to the prosecution\u2019s plan.<\/p>\n<p>As one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tim-allen-shares-a-tweet-who-is-the-face-of-woke\/\" title=\"Tim Allen Shares a Tweet: \u201cWho Is the Face of Woke?\u201d\">social media user wrote<\/a>: \u201cCause most lawyers see this as a sham?\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Cause most lawyers see this as a sham?<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jenny (@LuckyOptimist) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LuckyOptimist\/status\/1795128862214423013?\">May 27, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And remember, Coley is no liberal-lawyer-with-a-conscience type, a la George Washington <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trumps-legal-team-just-called-killshot-witness-stand-law-professor-jonathan-turley-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">law professor Jonathan Turley<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Coley is a guy who left a high-ranking government job in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/attorney-general-merrick-garland-breaks-silence-mar-lago-raid-moves-unseal-search-warrant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merrick Garland Justice Department<\/a> to become one of the foremost spokesman for Trump Derangement Syndrome in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/opinion\/msnbc-opinion\/trump-keeps-violating-gag-order-judge-merchan-jail-everybody-else-rcna150107\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">written<\/a> that Judge Juan Merchan should feel free to jail Trump for violating his \u201cgag order\u201d (it\u2019s couched in the usual high-flying language of equality under the law, but his meaning is clear).<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s given a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/opinion\/msnbc-opinion\/fani-willis-testimony-prosecute-trump-rcna139087\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rave review<\/a> to Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis and her disgraceful appearance on the stand last year to defend her own even-more-disgraceful abuse of power and taxpayer dollars in a romantic relationship with a man she put on the team prosecuting Trump in her jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>It was a performance that the judge in her case <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/judge-rules-trumps-georgia-case-can-continue-gives-fani-willis-two-options-wont-like\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">couldn\u2019t fully stomach<\/a>, but Coley was all in.<\/p>\n<p>And now he\u2019s worried that two members of the Trump jury in Manhattan might know enough about the law to realize that Bragg\u2019s case against the former president is essentially empty.<\/p>\n<p>Coley tries to bluff that out by telling Lemire that the lawyer jurors don\u2019t have \u201cexpertise\u201d in the area of law involved, but if that\u2019s the case, laymen jurors certainly don\u2019t. It\u2019s the prosecution\u2019s job to convince them. Clearly, Coley is afraid that hasn\u2019t happened.<\/p>\n<p>To be clear, every Trump supporter should know that the chances of a Trump acquittal in a Democratic venue like Manhattan are minimal \u2014 not impossible, but minimal.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution has been blatantly political <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/manhattan-da-convenes-grand-jury-weigh-potential-charges-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">since its beginning<\/a>, and it\u2019s taking place in one of the most politically hostile climates available to Trump in the country (now-President Joe Biden got 86 percent of the vote in Manhattan, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/11\/03\/us\/elections\/results-new-york.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s being presided over by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/judge-juan-merchan-hit-official-ethics-complaint-accused-judicial-misconduct\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump-loathing judge<\/a> who\u2019s delivered a whole circus so devoid of fairness that the courtroom proprieties are more suited to the ceremonial slaughter of a bullfight than an actual adversarial process of justice in an American court of law,<\/p>\n<p>Yet even amid all that, a rabidly anti-Trump legal analyst is worried that the actual law itself might aid the former president, because two members of the jury might know too much about it.<\/p>\n<p>The outcome of the Trump trial could well be a harbinger of the November election. While most Americans no doubt expect a conviction (65 percent of those polled by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2024\/05\/07\/trump-hush-money-trial-americans-guilty\/73504245007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a> in early May), how that would affect him politically is an open question.
