Meanwhile, the historical drama \u201cOppenheimer\u201d earned $82.4 million during its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/07\/23\/barbie-and-oppenheimer-opening-weekend-box-office-results.html#:~:text=Entertainment-,'Barbenheimer'%20tops%20%24235%20million%20in%20domestic%20debut%2C%20eyes%20second,highest%20box%20office%20weekend%20ever&#038;text=Warner%20Bros.,%2482.4%20million%20during%20its%20debut.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">debut<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  and $951 million overall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sarandos discussed his thoughts during a newly published <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/05\/25\/magazine\/ted-sarandos-netflix-interview.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  with The New York Times. When the interviewer asked what type of content doesn\u2019t fit at Netflix, the entertainment exec replied, \u201cI don\u2019t think that there\u2019s a clear answer because the best version of something may work really well for Netflix but just hasn\u2019t worked to date. There\u2019s some obvious ones, like we don\u2019t do breaking news and that kind of thing, because I think there\u2019s a lot of other outlets for it. People aren\u2019t looking to us for that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The NYT reporter mentioned the major theatrical releases of last summer. \u201cAre there things that just don\u2019t feel like they\u2019re in your wheelhouse right now?\u201d the interviewer asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBoth of those movies would be great for Netflix,\u201d Sarandos replied about \u201cBarbie\u201d and \u201cOppenheimer.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1700760801843000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2PQrVSrJfhxNb4LcARqniG\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey definitely would have enjoyed just as big an audience on Netflix,\u201d he continued, \u201cAnd so I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any reason to believe that certain kinds of movies do or don\u2019t work. There\u2019s no reason to believe that the movie itself is better in any size of screen for all people. My son\u2019s an editor. He is 28 years old, and he watched \u2018Lawrence of Arabia\u2019 on his phone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Earlier this year, Sarandos said Netflix\u2019s original movies \u201care attracting some of the biggest audiences in the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He also mentioned that the streaming giant won\u2019t be changing its approach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe do not plan to change our strategy or the mix [of licensed and original films]. It\u2019s always going to be that kind of blend of, first window, second window and deep catalog.
