Some \u200cstates, like Florida and Alabama, have cut public\u200c funding\u200c for DEI\u200d programs. Yet, many are unaware that \u200cthis \u2064approach is being implemented in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/some-northern-calif-elementary-schools-reopen\/\" title=\"Some Northern Calif. elementary schools reopen\">public elementary schools<\/a>. \u2064Furthermore, districts like Fairfax County\u2019s\u200c public schools in Virginia are implementing seemingly discriminatory \u2064measures. However, when questioned, officials, like the district\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/atlanta-mayor-lance-bottoms-signs-executive-order-circumventing-ga-election-laws\/\" title=\"Atlanta Mayor Lance Bottoms Signs Executive Order Circumventing GA Election Laws\">chief equity officer<\/a>, Nardos King,\u2062 fail to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-rotted-roots-of-yoga\/\" title=\"Yoga's Decaying Roots\">provide clear definitions<\/a>\u200c for terms like &#8220;marginalized groups&#8221; and &#8220;protected class&#8221;. This has\u2064 resulted in ambiguity about certain school district policies, causing unease among parents.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>With the rise of leftist, anti-Israel protests on college campuses, Americans increasingly recognize the dangers of the \u201cdiversity, equity, and inclusion\u201d (DEI) cancer in higher education. Some states, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2024\/05\/03\/florida-campuses-push-back-anti-dei-laws\/73525317007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Florida<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketplace.org\/2024\/05\/01\/new-alabama-law-pushes-back-against-dei-curriculum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alabama<\/a>, have rightfully taken measures to stem the flow of public resources to DEI\u2019s leftist agenda in public institutions.<\/p>\n<p>But what fewer Americans are aware of is that the DEI mafia is surreptitiously and effectively <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/12\/14\/you-wont-believe-the-leftist-nonsense-public-school-teachers-inject-into-your-kids-brain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">manipulating<\/a> our young children beginning in their public elementary schools and beyond. Many public school districts are also subjecting their students to overtly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/restoring-america\/equality-not-elitism\/3006783\/fcps-codified-secret-discriminatory-hierarchy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discriminatory<\/a> regulations. Fairfax County\u2019s public schools, located just outside our nation\u2019s capital in the largest school district in Virginia, are top among them.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-142818458\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3df3384aefd039ae62f32288e36dabff fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3df3384aefd039ae62f32288e36dabff\"><\/div>\n<p>On May 15, I wrote an <a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/incidents\/fairfax-county-public-schools-uses-vague-terms-such-as-marginalized-group-and-protected-class-to-promote-the-interests-of-some-students-more-than-others\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">email<\/a> to the district\u2019s chief equity officer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/beltway-confidential\/2740562\/is-fairfax-county-public-schoolss-chief-equity-officer-hiding-its-student-reeducation-training-from-parents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nardos King<\/a>. I posed simple questions: What are the definitions of \u201cmarginalized groups\u201d and \u201cprotected class\u201d \u2014 and which social groups are included in each category? She refused to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-paul-dr-fauci-battle-over-vaccines-at-covid-hearing\/\" title=\"Sen. Paul, Dr. Fauci battle over vaccines at COVID hearing\">provide clear answers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Discriminatory Terms Coded in Public School Policies<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>These terms are particularly important because the school district bases policy on them. For example, teachers are <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/21\/its-time-for-teachers-to-put-away-their-political-flags-at-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">allowed<\/a> to display flags of \u201cmarginalized groups.\u201d According to an <a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/incidents\/fairfax-county-public-schools-uses-vague-terms-such-as-marginalized-group-and-protected-class-to-promote-the-interests-of-some-students-more-than-others\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">email<\/a> I received from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/whitmer-signs-law-allowing-bus-drivers-school-admins-to-sub-as-teachers-amid-shortage\/\" title=\"Whitmer Signs Law Allowing Bus Drivers, School Admins To Sub As Teachers Amid Shortage\">middle school principal<\/a> in Fairfax County, Black Lives Matter is a marginalized group, so teachers are free to display that leftist flag in the district\u2019s classrooms.<\/p>\n<p>The classification is strange. Black Lives Matter is a sociopolitical movement that does not represent all black people. It is unclear how BLM could be considered a marginalized group, and the designation reflects obvious viewpoint discrimination. Given that our children are subjected to the operationalization of these terms, parents and students should have a right to see what other groups are on that list.<\/p>\n<p>The district\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcps.edu\/about-fcps\/one-fairfax-policy\/equity-and-cultural-responsiveness\/educational-equity-policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Educational Equity Policy<\/a>, passed by the school board in June 2023, also uses the term \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/go.boarddocs.com\/vsba\/fairfax\/Board.nsf\/files\/CT3R8X6A5EBF\/%24file\/Equity%20Policy_SB%20Revision%20Draft%206.23.23%20-%20CLEAN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">marginalization<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0The point of that policy is for students to have equal outcomes, such as grades. To that end, the district has experimented with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/incidents\/fairfax-county-public-schools-provides-teachers-with-training-on-grading-for-equity-explains-that-parents-asking-for-data-is-a-lack-of-willingness-to-accept-the-narrative-in-the-numbers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">equitable grading<\/a>\u201d to uplift so-called marginalized groups.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d7254a28890ab7154b8d2511813d6307 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d7254a28890ab7154b8d2511813d6307\"><\/div>\n<p>Many parents fear that academically elite, hard-working students will be unrecognizable in their college applications as a result. In other words, hard work and talent are not rewarded when equal outcomes, and not merit, are the priority.<\/p>\n<p>Fairfax County Public Schools also uses the term \u201cprotected class.\u201d Although this is a federally recognized term, its definition and application are unclear at the local level in public schools. In the district\u2019s code of conduct, \u201cdiscriminatory harassment\u201d seems only to apply to protected classes. The code <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcps.edu\/system\/files\/forms\/2023-08\/srr-2023-24.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">states<\/a>, \u201cDiscriminatory harassment is unwanted conduct toward an individual based on their actual or perceived age, race, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, marital status, disability, or any other legally protected class.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Does that mean to suggest that nonprotected classes \u2014 which without question include heterosexual, white males \u2014 are not covered by this rule? Are these children fair game for harassment based on their race and sexual orientation? Is it less serious when they are harassed? For the sake of policy clarity, the school district must explicitly provide implementation details. But they do not.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Vague Definitions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In response to my first email, King provided me with vague definitions and declined to elaborate on which specific social groups were considered \u201cprotected.\u201d She <a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/incidents\/fairfax-county-public-schools-uses-vague-terms-such-as-marginalized-group-and-protected-class-to-promote-the-interests-of-some-students-more-than-others\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>, \u201c[A] protected class is a group of people who are legally shielded from discrimination based on certain characteristics \u2026 [such as] race, color, religion, national origin, sex (which covers gender identity and sexual orientation), pregnancy\/childbirth, age, marital status, disability, veteran status, and genetic information.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3d4ad1683dfb02da3ec349296c9ae418 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-3d4ad1683dfb02da3ec349296c9ae418\"><\/div>\n<p>Even King was not completely clear on the district\u2019s definition of \u201cmarginalized groups.\u201d She <a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/incidents\/fairfax-county-public-schools-uses-vague-terms-such-as-marginalized-group-and-protected-class-to-promote-the-interests-of-some-students-more-than-others\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>, \u201cWhile we may not have an official definition for \u2018marginalized group,\u2019 it generally refers to people who face systemic disadvantages and discrimination. This can include women, underrepresented ethnic and racial groups, individuals based on gender identity and sexual orientation, people of various ages, individuals with physical disabilities, and non-native language speakers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While she stated whom it <em>may<\/em> include, she did not clarify whom it <em>does<\/em> include. Pushing back on her in response, I <a href=\"https:\/\/defendinged.org\/incidents\/fairfax-county-public-schools-uses-vague-terms-such-as-marginalized-group-and-protected-class-to-promote-the-interests-of-some-students-more-than-others\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>, \u201cI remain a bit unclear about which social groups belong in each category. For example, are women a marginalized group in schools? They are not in the minority and don\u2019t seem to have problems getting jobs in the schools or with access to higher education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two days later, and likely after speaking to the district\u2019s legal counsel, she referred me to four district policies that are supposed to clarify the meanings and specifications of the terms. They did not, so I responded, \u201cWould you please explain this to me? My question is quite simple: Which social groups are classified in FCPS [Fairfax County Public Schools] code as \u2018marginalized\u2019 and\/or \u2018protected\u2019 and which are not?\u201d As of publication, I have not received a response to my simple question.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Recommendation for Districts That Institutionalize Discrimination<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Alvin Lui, the founder of Courage Is A Habit, is right to <a href=\"https:\/\/courageisahabit.org\/#languagecontamination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">say<\/a> that the left \u201cuses your vocabulary but not your dictionary.\u201d It has been the left\u2019s strategy to redefine words that we thought had clear definitions, such as \u201cwoman,\u201d or Ibram X Kendi\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fairfaxtimes.com\/articles\/fairfax_county\/county-residents-raise-questions-about-contracts-with-sources-who-argue-for-new-discriminations-and-unequal\/article_c8b18298-9068-11ed-ae18-3fe5457eb040.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">racist<\/a> ideology of \u201cantiracism.\u201d For words such as \u201cmarginalized groups,\u201d they are intentionally vague as a strategy.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of leftist school districts that wield authority over our children, we need to push them on their discriminatory terms and the resulting implementation. To that end, if they insist on exposing America\u2019s children in public schools to these absurdities, I would like to see an identity points matrix that stipulates the value of each child based on race, sex, religion, ethnicity, etc. as these school administrators see it. <\/p>\n<p>At least then, we would all be looking at the same playbook.
