The event turned contentious \u200bwhen candidate Michael Rectenwald criticized Trump, leading to \u2063a tumultuous \u2062atmosphere with shouting matches and protests\u200d halted by security.\u200c The confrontation \u200chighlighted deep divisions within the party.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s attempt at extending a \u201chand of friendship\u201d to members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3017868\/libertarians-maga-supporters-clash-trump-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Libertarian National Convention\">Libertarian National Convention<\/a> was rebuked Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>Trump asked for the endorsement of the Libertarian Party, urging delegates to back him if they want to win and while offering to appoint a Libertarian to his cabinet if he is reelected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNominate me or at least vote for me and we should win together,\u201d Trump said, noting the party can do more than just 3% percent of the vote, as was the case in 2016 election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t waste a vote,\u201d he later added.<\/p>\n<p>The former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-taking-regeneron-drug-remdesivir-therapy-for-coronavirus-diagnosis-ex-wh-doctor-explains\/\" title=\"Trump taking Regeneron drug, Remdesivir therapy for coronavirus diagnosis: ex-WH doctor explains\">president<\/a>, however, found himself in rare situation in contrast to his raucous rallies packed with true believers. His offer was greeted with loud booing from Libertarians that competed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/capitol-police-officer-who-died-during-capitol-riot-to-lie-in-honor-in-rotunda\/\" title=\"Capitol Police Officer Who Died During Capitol Riot To Lie In Honor In Rotunda\">vocal support<\/a> from his own backers who attended the event Saturday night in Washington D.C.<\/p>\n<p>After getting booed loudly by attendees as he took the stage, Trump too questioned aloud why he agreed to address a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3017868\/libertarians-maga-supporters-clash-trump-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"hostile crowd\">hostile crowd<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people ask why I came to speak at this Libertarian convention and you know, it\u2019s an interesting question, isn\u2019t it,\u201d Trump said. \u201cBut we\u2019re gonna have a lot of fun. <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cIn the last year, I\u2019ve been indicted by the government on 91 different things. So if I wasn\u2019t a Libertarian before I sure as hell am a Libertarian now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump did receive applause when he promised to pardon the Jan. 6 Capitol riot \u201chostages\u201d and \u201cSilk Road\u201d website creator Ross Ulbricht, who is serving a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/boston-marathon-bomber-files-lawsuit-over-alleged-unlawful-treatment-in-colorado-prison\/\" title=\"Boston Marathon bomber files lawsuit over alleged \u2018unlawful\u2019 treatment in Colorado prison\">life sentence<\/a>.\u00a0Ulbricht\u2019s freedom is a key cause of Libertarians who held \u201cFree Ross\u201d signs throughout the convention weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you vote for me on Day One, I will commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht,\u201d Trump said, as the crowd erupted in cheers and chants of \u201cFree Ross.\u201d \u201cHe\u2019s already served 11 years. Both Biden and Trump are contending with the threat from Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/meet-the-man-trying-to-shake-up-yales-secretive-governing-body\/\" title=\"Meet the Man Trying to Shake Up Yale\u2019s Secretive Governing Body\">independent candidate<\/a> who also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3017326\/rfk-jr-woos-libertarians\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"addressed the convention\">addressed the convention<\/a> with a warmer reception.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank you I want your support and again, you can either nominate us and put us in the position or give us your votes.
