The tug boat was transporting the floating pier off of Gaza back to the port of Ashdod due to poor sea conditions when it got disconnected &#038; beached here. LCM went in for rescue and also got beached <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/B6HU1B9nfa\">pic.twitter.com\/B6HU1B9nfa<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jeremy Diamond (@JDiamond1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JDiamond1\/status\/1794363897618837593?\">May 25, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A report in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jewishpress.com\/news\/us-news\/us-navy-vessel-runs-aground-in-ashdod-trying-to-retrieve-breakaway-gaza-pier-part\/2024\/05\/25\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jewish Press<\/a> said part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/poll-democrats-deeply-divided-bidens-handling-gaza-war-campus-protests-can-trump-capitalize\/\">pier<\/a> \u201cbroke off due to the high winds and choppy waters of the Mediterranean Sea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first vessel ran aground while trying to retrieve the broken part. A second vessel then also ran aground while trying to retrieve the part. A third vessel also became involved, trying to free the ships that ran aground,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centcom.mil\/MEDIA\/PRESS-RELEASES\/Press-Release-View\/Article\/3787939\/high-sea-states-impact-army-vessels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a> from U.S. Central Command said four Army vessels were \u201caffected by heavy sea states.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vessels broke free from their moorings and two vessels are now anchored on the beach near the pier. The third and fourth vessels are beached on the coast of Israel near Ashkelon,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should the Gaza aid pier project be abandoned?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cNo U.S. personnel will enter Gaza. No injuries have been reported and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-military-boats-encounter-rough-seas-during-aid-mission-to-gaza\/\" title=\"US military vessels face challenges in Gaza aid mission due to rough seas\">pier remains fully functional<\/a>,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n<p>Details are sparse on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-gary-sinise-foundation-celebrates-10-years-of-service\/\" title=\"WATCH: Gary Sinise Foundation Celebrates 10 Years Of Service\">injured service member<\/a>. The soldier was one of three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/three-u-s-service-members-injured-in-iran-backed-rocket-attacks-in-syria\/\" title=\"Three U.S. Service Members Injured in Iran-Backed Rocket Attacks in Syria\">service members injured<\/a>, and was taken to an Israeli hospital, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2024\/05\/24\/us-soldier-critically-injured-noncombat-incident-gaza-pier.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Military.com<\/a> reported citing a defense official it did not name. The injury took place while unloading cargo from one ship to another, the official said.<\/p>\n<p>The pier\u2019s cost has now hit $320 million, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-militarys-pier-gaza-cost-320-million-2024-04-29\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reported. That figure is about twice what was initially projected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cost has not just risen. It has exploded,\u201d Republican Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi said, per Reuters. \u201cThis dangerous effort with marginal benefit will now cost the American taxpayers at least $320 million to operate the pier for only 90 days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor every day this mission continues, the price tag goes up and so does the level of risk for the 1,000 deployed troops within range of Hamas\u2019 rockets,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida said the project was not worth the cost and risk,\u00a0 according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/bidens-320m-gaza-pier-over-budget-under-constant-threat-purely-political-misadventure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, it\u2019s unnecessarily putting our people in harm\u2019s way. It\u2019s costing a lot. It\u2019s pulling assets that should be used elsewhere, and I just don\u2019t think it\u2019s going to accomplish anything near what he\u2019s promised,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been briefed that two Navy destroyers are assigned to patrol the waters around the pier,\u201d Waltz said. \u201cAre those being included in their sustained fuel operating costs? The cost of their crew? That\u2019s unclear \u2026 and then there\u2019s opportunity cost, right? Those destroyers and other assets, air assets or what have you, are being dedicated to secure this thing from any type of drone or land attack that could be rested and refit in the U.S. and could be used elsewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waltz said the issue has never been getting aid to Gaza, but remains getting it to places <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/report-pentagon-admits-us-built-pier-gaza-failed-provide-aid\/\">within Gaza<\/a> where it is needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to run into the exact same problems the land routes have faced once it gets across the border,\u201d Waltz said. \u00a0\u201cThe trucks get ransacked. They get attacked. When they do make it to the warehouse, it\u2019s Hamas controlling the warehouses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waltz said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/truth-gaza-aid-pier-nauseating-tax-money-going-right-hamas\/\">mission<\/a> is not as simple as it sounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust getting the amount of material out there in what is often a rough sea state, in a very difficult environment, has been a problem,\u201d Waltz explained. \u201cThen, I think we just have this false notion of no boots on the ground coming from Biden and the administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, technically, there\u2019s no boots touching sand, but they\u2019re on a dock that\u2019s touching the sand, and we confirmed at a hearing they\u2019re very close to shore,\u201d he continued. \u201cThey are within small arms range of any militants that want to fire on them from Gaza, much less the types of drones or missiles that we\u2019ve seen in the Red Sea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waltz said the project is little more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/uncommited-vote-shows-strong-performance-biden-super-tuesday-cost-election\/\">pure political<\/a> posturing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you have over 100,000 Democrats in the state of Michigan \u2026 go and vote against him in the Democrat primary \u2013 over 100,000 \u2013 that is a heck of a scary political moment for this White House,\u201d Waltz said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve seen the policy shifts towards Israel ever since, from Schumer calling for regime change on the Senate floor to the kind of bashing of Netanyahu, to the promising a change in policy if the Israelis carry out their offensive in Rafah \u2026 that has all been a signal to the youth vote,\u201d Waltz said.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>I heard a chilling comment the other day: \u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>That wasn\u2019t said by a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday prophet.
